Do you think INTPs have an inherent disliking for lists? That they somehow restrict their thoughts, even though their internal thoughts are structured?

Changing a list is a complicated matter. It involves finding a pen, for one thing. Not to mention all the existential stuff.

Hmm, yes, I totally share that POV...
Anyway, I know sometimes you can't be bothered to find a pen, but we're talking computerised lists here.

I most respect members who do something other than incessantly post their interpretations of every reaction to every mundane event in their lives to fit their MBTI result in some forlorn attempt to prove how INTP they are.

I was in the middle of drinking and chewing food at the time of reading this and I snorted chunks of watery pasta and tuna everywhere. In tears of laughter as I write this.

Lists are wonderful, they provide logical structure to unorganized data.

A model is even better, but a list is the simplest form of a model.

However, I appreciate reading posts from EditorOne.

Interesting, but unfortunate for Jennywocky, since I never could dance. :-)

Thank goodness, as if I were an alien with three feet, they'd still all be Left ones... ;)

Name drop threads have value as far as utility... But I've never liked them because they're like popularity contests - which I never win and I dislike losing and being jealous.

I have general rules of respect and showing respect.
-Respect of Power or Hordes: I try to show respect to the people that other people do so I don't stick my face into a beehive. There are people I respect simply because they hold power. That doesn't mean I like them or agree with them, I'm just aware of the fact that they could kill me or make my life miserable, so I show respect.
-Respect of Opinions/Experiences: I can at least try to respect other people's opinions and acknowledge that their experiences have been different, they're different people and, therefore, prone to different interpretations.
-Respect of Ability: I hold a general respect of competence until the person proves they are not competent or knowledgeable on what we're doing/discussing. If someone is competent I'll respect them somewhat because they're a beneficial asset.

I probably respect people I like in some way, but I don't tend to think of people I like in terms of respect. I also don't tend to think in terms of respect when my interaction with someone is through a computer screen.

This group is wonderfully unusual in that people actually listen, learn, and respect each other.
^that

I respect them for the fact that they are scientific, logical, and post when they know what they're talking about. And don't talk crap.
I do respect scientific, logical posts and people sharing their expertise but I'd have less respect for a member if they only posted what they know, if they never had the confidence to betray an ignorance, ask a question or talk a bit of crap sometimes. Watching clever minds at work on an unfamiliar idea is as enjoyable as watching a passionate expert holding court.
There's lots of respectable minds on here, with or without expertise. Too many to mention.

I also respect those members who make the forum a nicer place to be. If I consider which members are most likely to draw me to a thread, three immediately come to mind:

@cheese
@Jordan (where'd he go?)
@AlisaD

I agree with that. i find I respect people who are somewhat well-rounded. Yes, I can respect a particular trait if necessary of someone, but I find those who can focus and articulate their ideas rationally and who can also "play around" in the right situations far more interesting and respectable to me than those who seem stuck in a particular way to engage the world. Work and play are mixed together for me.

Do you really respect someone who plays though? It's more of a feeling of liking their posts more.

It depends on context; but yes, I admire someone who is creative and witty, while also being smart. It's a primary characteristic of guys I am attracted to as well -- smart and funny. If someone is just funny but never gets serious without being able to joke and relax, I become bored with them.

Respect for the whole person is not the same as respect for particular traits, as has already been mentioned. If a person happens to be an expert in chemistry, how can one not respect that regardless of how they present themselves? ... unless they happen to hate chemistry.

One interesting thing about respect is if you happen to dislike or be indifferent to someone. There is something about liking ... being liked that matters. Being liked by some people is something everyone seems to want to have: that is the desire to be LIKED ... even if one has given up on being liked oneself. So if you dislike someone, perhaps you unfairly don't respect them ... even if there appears to be SOME thing respectable about them. Now why is that? I think it's because if a person acts in some manner whereby you don' t like them, they must be foolish because who doesn't want to be liked? Why is this not valid reasoning?

I always look for something that is likeable in a person even if I don't see it. The very fact that others like them means there is something there I am missing.

Notice that according to Wiki, respect in NOT rational. It's a feeling.
"Respect gives a positive feeling of esteem or deference for a person or other entity"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Respect

Also, "The opposite of respect is contempt."
