  1. Teakettle

Hmm, you seem interesting. Yes, I hope your stay on this forum enjoys you. And thanks for the warm welcome. :)
  2. About our inferior feeling function

Well, yes, of course you will. :p
  3. About our inferior feeling function

Ah, really? You're saying that reality exists independently of individuals. That is to say, reality is separate from individuals. Which also means that individuals are separate from reality. And, if something is "separate from reality", is it real? (This thread is horribly mistitled, by the...
  4. Clarity

Lol, communication problems, they come up sooo much. Of course, if you think about it, if we could communicate perfectly then we wouldn't have anything left to say. :p
  5. Debate me

    Mu. :p
  6. I hate Brett Favre

OK, moving this thread to the Lounge...
  7. How Flexible are INTPs?

Eh, Auburn, I think you're just cautious.
  8. Time to say Hello

Welcome. Hmm, yes, existential crises, a lot of us have those. On that note: http://www.intpforum.com/showthread.php?t=5851
  9. INTJ/INTP

Gah. Cognitive functions do not work that way.
  10. Inferior Function cannot be satisfied directly

Eh, that applies to Ne and Si in INTPs too, though.
  11. Inferior Function cannot be satisfied directly

Um, no, that isn't really what inferior functions are like. If we're mature enough, we can use them fine and even enjoy it. It's only unhealthy when we try to use them too much without going back to the dominant function for too long. That's when we get really stressed and then bad stuff...
  12. Inferior Function cannot be satisfied directly

Yeah, I think that's actually a better word for it. It's also "recharging" in the sense that, if you have to use your Fe for too long without getting a chance to stop and think, you're probably going to get really stressed out.
  13. Inferior Function cannot be satisfied directly

You still have to be able to stop and think for a bit to recharge afterwards, though, yes?
  14. Social norms

I like these. Umm, especially the elevator thing and the one I quoted from Reverse Transcriptase, I think. Don't really have anything to add myself at the moment, this list is already pretty long. :p
  15. ISTP, working on Ne (wait, or maybe INTP?)

Nope, definitely not. I've learned a lot about this and about myself since this thread was last active, and yeah, I'm INTP. Functional analysis is so much more reliable than messing with the characteristics that supposedly go with J/P. I think you have a lot to learn about how MBTI type...
  16. Functions Roleplay Story - Discussion & Reactions

People do this sort of thing all the time, though perhaps usually to a smaller extent. It's where the phrase "on the other hand" comes from. If you want to be more explicit about where the conflicting ideas are coming from, go ahead. I like getting to see other people's thought processes.
  17. Do INTPs ever "find happiness" :(

    Apparently some do. :p
  18. do you avoid "deep" topics?

Hm, I've been thinking the same thing, lately. If not a career it could at least be a hobby on the side. :p
  19. I'm not sure of my type

What? That's ridiculous. Where'd you hear that?
  20. Identity-Seeking vs Knowledge-Seeking Personality

To me, this looks like quite a misleading distinction to try to make. There are too many shades of meaning that it just fails to account for.
  21. do you know what you want?

I think what I want most in life is to understand as much as possible, and I suppose also to help others towards the same goal. A lot of the rest sort of follows from that. :p EDIT: I'd also just like to say that Felan's advice about exploring and changing seems like really good advice.
  22. Any Clear Identity?

(I'm just pointing out that this other thread is on quite a similar topic.)
  23. Sick of your Pronouns

...Eh. Room for one more? I don't particularly care about pronouns, I guess you can use whatever pronouns you want for me, I just don't understand why the concepts of masculinity and femininity should have any connections to the concepts of male and female (or sexual orientation; I'm not...
  24. On specifics in general

Sometimes I get lost in the trees and lose sight of the forest. Other times I get so wrapped up in admiring the forest that I forget it has trees in it. I wonder how I might go about looking at concepts and generalities and making decisions on a case-by-case basis at the same time. Any ideas?
  25. Avatar Changes

Or procrastinators. I'd been sorta dissatisfied with my old LWSS avatar for a while, and only now got around to finding a new one. :p
  26. Avatar Changes

Well, I got a new avatar. I think this one fits a little better. :)
  27. Avatar Changes

Hmm, I should probably change my avatar sometime. I don't think this LWSS really reflects me that much anymore. On the other hand, I'm not quite sure what would.
  28. INTPs are good at math/sciences?

Yeah, individual numbers get boring fast. Except for a few weird ones, like e and pi. Those guys keep popping up everywhere! You know what you get if you take the factorial of -1/2? The square root of pi! You generalize the factorial function to a function that's continuous for everything...
  29. Sick of your Pronouns

I suppose you can make a new thread, and then I can merge these posts into it.
  30. Impulsivity

EDIT: Pretty much what Latro said. :p
  31. Sick of your Pronouns

I'm going with "ze", by the way. I'm just not comfortable calling people "it" because it can be dehumanizing, and it makes me feel like I'm not treating them as people.
  32. Impulsivity

No, it isn't. That isn't what Fe is like at all. I think it's just your Ti getting distracted when your Ne finds interesting stuff. Ti likes figuring things out using logic, it doesn't really care much about getting things done. Te is the one that gets things done. But no, I'm pretty sure...
  33. Save me!

:( Nooo, sagewolf, don't leave! We'd miss you too much!
  34. Save me!

Yay Auburn :D Aww, c'mon, Coggy, emotions can be fun! You should try 'em sometime! Actually... I'll help! *tacklehug* ^^
  35. Tough Love

I'd just like to confirm something. Tough love is generally used (by some person A) to get person B to stop exhibiting some behavior C that person A doesn't like, am I right?
  36. Tough Love

Tough love, what is tough love? I've never really understood the phrase. I think I've heard it used more as a euphemism for a kind of systematic passive-aggressive coercion than anything else...
  37. Sick of your Pronouns

There are always "ze" and "zir", which I think some people on these forums already use.
  38. ISTP, working on Ne (wait, or maybe INTP?)

Yes, I think this is it. I think I've just been surrounded by people with better Ne than mine that I sort of lost confidence in my ability to contribute new ideas, and I became the Si fact-checker. This explains everything perfectly, actually. And poof, identity crisis resolved. Thank you...
  39. ISTP, working on Ne (wait, or maybe INTP?)

Re: ISTP, working on Ne This is sorta weird... It's looking like the only functions I've noticed myself using are Ti, Fe, something that could be Si, and something that could be Ni. I mean, what? How does THAT work? Unless of course that word-association thing counts as Ne. I mean, I do...
  40. ISTP, working on Ne (wait, or maybe INTP?)

Re: ISTP, working on Ne Oh, come on, how is that evidence of S? I mean, sure, you've only heard me discussing the practical stuff, but you've only heard me talking about it with you and Fang, and neither of you have expressed any interest in computer science! You guys just wanted to know...
  41. ISTP, working on Ne (wait, or maybe INTP?)

Re: ISTP, working on Ne Like I said, if I'm ISTP, then my major perceiving function doesn't care about the same things I do. Also, remember, my Ti is still dominant. I could still use Se in interacting with other people, even if it doesn't determine my interests. No, I know I'm...
  42. ISTP, working on Ne (wait, or maybe INTP?)

Re: ISTP, working on Ne Some video games, yes, especially if they have plot. I've never really liked FPSes or anything like that, if that's what you meant. As for the rest of that... No, not really. I mean, I had fun at the homecoming dance this year and last year, but I didn't really do...
  43. ISTP, working on Ne (wait, or maybe INTP?)

Re: ISTP, working on Ne Because, if I'm ISTP, that means my major perceiving function doesn't care about the same things I care about. I'd like my personal preferences and my cognitive preferences to match, and I'm not going to do that by trying to change my personal preferences, thank you...
  44. ISTP, working on Ne (wait, or maybe INTP?)

Re: ISTP, working on Ne This is true for most people, yes, but is it necessarily a rule? The obvious example of changing one's type would be as the result of a lobotomy, though I suppose that would be a degenerate case. If you think about it, though, a lot of people change the way they think...
  45. ISTP, working on Ne (wait, or maybe INTP?)

Re: ISTP, working on Ne You still seem to think I haven't considered that possibility carefully enough. Trust me, I have, and I'm not, so you can stop saying that now.
  46. ISTP, working on Ne (wait, or maybe INTP?)

After thinking it over and discussing it, I've concluded that I'm actually ISTP, which sort of explains a lot about the differences between me and a lot of the INTPs here. And while I do enjoy some of the strengths of Se in comparison to Ne, a lot of the weaknesses really bother me. In working...
  47. Do you chew pens?

Yes, I do that. Also with mechanical pencils, which I generally prefer over wooden ones.
  48. Adding IRC to the forum?

We could add a mibbit widget. It might be a good idea. :p
  49. Upgrade to vBulletin 4 Virtually Impossible.

How about phpBB? It's open source, and from what I've seen of it, it looks pretty good. Why not use that? I guess Invision could work too, if we decide against phpBB.
  50. No. of Posts per page?

Relax, there's still an option for 100 posts per page on http://www.intpforum.com/profile.php?do=editoptions. :p
