Physics is applied mathematics, so fuck y'all.
And mathematics is applied philosophy, i.e. 2x fuck y'all
My recommendation: do mathematics and do some cool side projects. That's how you get employed
Chrome is resource-draining and is a product from a corporation whose goal is to track, monitor and store data on everything you do. I.e. something I would never use.
Among mainstream browsers, firefox is probably best.
Oh, and fuck everything that has to do with microsoft.
I need 16 cores because I use facebook, twitter, instagram and various other social media platforms while I play flash games and write stuff in microsoft word. I get important social media notifications left and right, so I need to deal with these messages efficiently.
Humanity is in general obsessed with progress. Self-interest and greed have been the drivers behind just about all of human progress. Greed is good.
Besides, it is a classical case of Millennial confusion when they gladly consume what the free markets offer them yet complain about capitalism...
For the president one, I would start with a treatment of what it even means to be a good president. E.g. discuss important aspects of being a president - cultural, economic and social impact, maybe war-related performance, his legacy, how he tackled crises etc.
Then it's a matter of using...
The question is also: how can you be "motivated" for something when you are a blank slate. Education provides some of this needed context and guides you in a reasonable direction.
I sometimes encounter self-taught mathematicians btw, and they consistently suck ass. The bigger problem is that...
C'mon... I think you have almost the right attitude. You're just slightly missing the mark. You want to be anti-mainstream but you went slightly too far in the opposite direction.
It's true that not all degrees are essential. That, to you, implies education in general is useless. I don't think...
"No jobs require degrees because I know about a job that doesn't require a degree"
"I got a job with a degree and practical experience, therefore you get jobs solely based on experience"
Learning how to think as a craft in itself is one of the most fruitful outcomes of taking a degree...
Good. You should have a plan for how much you want to have finished at particular times over the next days. If you get stuck at one point, immediately jump to the next one and come back to it later.
There was a woman once who told me: continuing to keep in touch would lead to too much emotional turbulence for her. I thought that was totally fair and reasonable. Obviously this wasn't a 17-year marriage, but still... I would think it's a very understandble thing to most people. If anything...
I respect people who work a trade, but being categorically anti-academia is just as silly as being categorically pro-academia.
Like, I love what I do, and it would be plainly impossible for me to do it without a degree. Purely in terms of knowledge, it would be impossible for me to acquire this...
Why do you compare an electrical engineer to an electrician? Does it make sense to compare an architect to a carpenter? "High school is irrelevant because you can always go back to it"?
I knew a girl who wrote a master's thesis in mathematics in 6 days... and she wasn't that good either. If you have 6 days to finish 44% of an english course, then that is what you have to do. There is no other option. You can philosophise about the meaning of life after that.
Also, stop hangig...
All I can say, folks, is that it feels nice live a lush life. Harmonious childhood, luxurious circumstances, champagne for lunch every day, all that stuff.
Well, here is one experiment where you would see a difference:
You put each frog in a separate container and fill the containers with water. 1 hour later you measure the temperature of the water in each container. The one with the dead frog will be cooler.
Boom.
Why would you throw away such a valuable gift as that. We don't need less shame and suffering, we need the psychological tools to harness these emotions.
Someone who is
- analytical and logical
- creative and expansive in their interests
- not concerned with sensory stimulation
- sensitive to other people's emotions
So thats pretty much the way I see the manifestation of Ti, Ne, Si, Fe
I think you would have to define more rigorously what it means that they are identical except for one of them being dead. A dead frog is altogether a different configuration of atoms than a living one. So the only way in which they are identical is that you ascribe the category 'frog' to both of...
Im slightly taken aback by the bias of that wikipedia article. I admit I havent followed the event closely, but the article makes it look like the counterprotesters were heroes, who saw their duty to stand against white-supremasists and nazis. But from what I understand, it was the original...
In the gym pretty much every day. I get too skinny if I don't lift weights. Mostly focusing on functional training though, to counterbalance my otherwise sedentary lifestyle.
It is definitely a meditative thing sometimes. You sometimes get an extremely clear head after training. For me it...
I am not saying you have to disprove that computation doesn't produce consciousness. I am saying you don't really have a model for consciousness at all. All your argument amounts to is that an algorithm somehow will produce consciousness if it gets complex enough. How is this different from...
You're using the exact same logic again, AK.
We have computational models which mimic certain aspects of the brain. That is true. But from there, you make the leap of saying: since we have something that kinda looks like a brain, you need to tell me exactly which ingredient it is missing...
Re: THIS THREAD WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE (maybe)
Have to pay homage to this thread again (think I did it in the previous timeline as well). Using this stuff all the time now.
I don't understand your reasoning, AK. How can you assume a-priori that a computational model is sufficient, and say: unless you find some specific component to consciousness which is not included in the model, then the model definitely produces consciousness?
