Okay so for anyone who doesn't know about this already I feel like I have a duty to share these sites, for people in academia it's life changing because everything you need to work with is always behind paywalls, and for anyone interested in acquiring knowledge it's just generally amazing. OPEN KNOWLEDGE.

So the first site is library genesis which is a MASSIVE online library containing thousands and thousands of books of every kind, if there's something you want to read and can't afford always check here first, it's mostly english of course but there are many other languages on it if it's not your first so always worth checking.

https://sites.google.com/site/themetalibrary/library-genesis

I can talk you through how to use these sites if you don't get it because it's not the smoothest interface for anyone who's not that internet oriented. (unlikely on this forum but still.)

https://sci-hub.hk/

^ This second site unlocks articles behind paywalls which is just a life saver if you're doing a thesis or a masters which can run up bills of like 1000 euros in some discipline just paying for articles (and the fucked up thing is that none of that money actually goes to the people who wrote them but to publishing company corporations fucking devil spawn mofos. )

May all the angels in heaven bless Alexandra Elbakyan who is genius lady and the beautiful Aaron Schwartz may he rest in peace. Pay your respects and admirations to them with one minute reading their wikipedia pages :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Swartz
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandra_Elbakyan

Voilà. You are welcome. And obviously may all the deities bless wikipedia as well.

Per BurnedOut's request here is also a link to the Directory of Open Access Journals, a praiseworthy legal effort to open knowledge

Re: THIS THREAD WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE (maybe)

If you're doing a masters/thesis shouldn't you have access without paying via university?

Not that open knowledge is a problem :^)

Actually a lot of the time, no. If it's contemporary. A lot of our professors here just provide us with illegal electronic versions of stuff haha

I can testify the usefulness of both sites.

Re: THIS THREAD WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE (maybe)

I'd be seriously reconsidering the university that I was attending if I couldn't access to the articles through the library.

Re: THIS THREAD WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE (maybe)

In certain subjects it may be better, however for philosophy there are many articles I have found to be not accessible through Jstor, universities may not have the funds to pay the huge sums of money to have complete access to all the potentially useful articles, they buy incomplete "university packs". Books may be only available in hard copy and already taken out by someone else. A lot of the time you have incomplete access to reviews of articles and not the articles themselves etc... Furthermore the interfaces are time consuming and often you find that they didn't have what you wanted anyway, and all this is just bullshit because of some mofos who make money off monetizing the hard intellectual work of others, they only contribute to slowing down the spread of knowledge and it is highly ethical imo to illegally bypass any system that benefits them.

Have to pay homage to this thread again (think I did it in the previous timeline as well). Using this stuff all the time now.

Re: THIS THREAD WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE (maybe)

I found this very useful, but must admit I didn't read this thread for the longest time due to title. Didn't seem relevant to my interests at all. Perhaps others would benefit from this who also wouldn't click on such a title? (Meaning, maybe a title change would be a good thing)

Another soul lost to the INTPf clickbait title war of 2017. The year when INTP's learnt one simple social trick that everyone else learnt years ago.

@higs, you should add doaj.org to your OP too. I checked it out, the http(s) links are dead. I'm gonna check out the torrent though

@BurnedOut

Isn't doaj.org all boring and legal ? Alexandra Elbakyan's site hacks the articles and craps all over the publishing corporations which is so much coolness I almost faint with admiration. She is like the Robin Hood of knoweldge. I must find and marry.

I will add it to the list though :-*

Oh yah it's down, the mirror links are listed on wikipedia page, one will work. I'm currently using :

https://sci-hub.hk/

PS: with sci-hub sometimes you have to wait after your request for the article to be unlocked if it's never been requested before, usually doesn't take more than 30 mins maximum.

I amassed a good deal of neuroscience based knowledge from it. It's good. Research papers are more logical but they are a pain in the ass to read as compared to properly summed up articles

I think it's a spin-off of the original .onion website who does the same job. Better use tor for this.

Whenever scihub changes domain, the new one usually comes up as 1st search result on duckduckgo, whereas those dirty fascists at google remove all links to it altogether

Also the mirror links are always listed on the sci-hub Wikipedia page. Same for libgen.
