What's the point? Most applications don't benefit from more than 2 and sometimes 4 cores. Unless you do a lot of data encoding (such as video), running virtual machines, do a lot of 3d design, or run a lot of intensive applications at once (like I guess recording a game while you play it or something or maybe having multiple users logging in and players games or running applications or have a big data server) this is kind of a waste of money...unless cpu technology has suddenly changed or something?

I need 16 cores because I use facebook, twitter, instagram and various other social media platforms while I play flash games and write stuff in microsoft word. I get important social media notifications left and right, so I need to deal with these messages efficiently.

Literally pointless unless you have a specific kind of work/hobby. There's barely anything that even makes use of i7 capabilities, let alone i9.

Most people would barely notice the difference between running a system on an i5 and an i9, if at all.

On Topic.

If I was going to choose between a Intel Core i9 (which is basically a stripped down version of Intel's higher performing CPU's) and a Thread Ripper, the obvious choice is Thread Ripper because its only going to get better with age as software improves for the processor. Its also cheaper per performance which is a huge plus. Not to mention that AMD typically uses the same architecture for a lot longer, which means you can keep the same MOBO for a long time without having to upgrade that while you upgrade CPUs.

To people who say it's practically pointless for most people, that is true but I'm one of those people who wants to do things that require lots of power. Sadly though, i don't actually have the money for this stuff so my computer is slow.

But also, more powerful processors will stay relevant longer, because software and things we do with it are always getting larger and needing more power. It would be a while before most people need something like this though.

Most people are still not going to need 6 cores for years.
