Hello my fellow f*cked-up ones,

This is my second post so forgive me if this was already done. I did a quick search on the forums before creating this thread but couldn't find something this specific.

Songs that define your INTPness. Songs you can call the soundtrack of your life.

After a breakup
Nouvelle Vague - YouTube - Nouvelle vague- in a manner of speaking ... Love (Live version @ Aula Magna is better)

When you are frustrated @ the way you let life slip by
Sia - YouTube - Sia Blow It All Away

Outlook on life
Beatles - YouTube - Across the Universe

If you contribute to the INTP soundtrack, please try to provide links with song names.

Six stories up.
The Stooges - No Fun

No fun my babe no fun
No fun my babe no fun
No fun to hang around
Feeling that same old way
No fun to hang around
Freaked out for another day
No fun my babe no fun
No fun my babe no fun
No fun to be around
Walking by myself
No fun to be alone
In love with nobody else
Well maybe go out maybe stay home
maybe call Mom on the telephone
Well come on, well come on,
well come on..........

The Doors - People Are Strange

People are strange when youre a stranger
Faces look ugly when youre alone
Women seem wicked when youre unwanted
Streets are uneven when youre down
When youre strange
Faces come out of the rain
When youre strange
No one remembers your name
When youre strange x3
People are strange when youre a stranger
Faces look ugly when youre alone
Women seem wicked when youre unwanted
Streets are uneven when youre down
When youre strange
Faces come out of the rain
When youre strange
No one remembers your name
When youre strange x3
When youre strange
Faces come out of the rain
When youre strange
No one remembers your name
When youre strange x3

I think Tool is the official band of INTPness. No matter how long or how repeatedly I listen to their music, I am always captivated. It's one of those things that I never lose interest in.

Incidentally, I want to bore you with a story I've been telling all my friends for the past 2 weeks.

I was in Berlin and was trying to return home around 3 a.m. Normally everywhere is so efficiently illuminated in the streets of Berlin but this street I needed to walk through (according to my poor map reading skills) had a street light on either end and 300-350 meters of the road was pitch dark. I had my headphones on listening to Tool. I got to the middle of the street, in perfect darkness, and this song started playing. 3 a.m. in the morning, lost, tired and drunk in a German city. I was scared shitless.

I had a little smile too when I realized he was giving out a recipe. I had never paid attention to the lyrics before that. I probably paid attention in that instance because I stopped in the middle of the street trying to calm down. (ok, drunk AND high)

Unfortunately, that little smile of reassurance didn't last long when I heard "Eine messerspitze Türkisches haschisch" in that creepy tone with the emphasis on "ü".

I am Turkish.

YouTube - Daft Punk - Da Funk (Daft Punk - Da Funk - I've always described this as my personal theme song, the whole video just kinda hits home, and the music, just fits me :P)

YouTube - people are strange - infected mushroom & the doors (Infected Mushroom Remixing the Doors People are strange... brilliantly done, I think. There's a cowboy bebop AMV using this song, and I absolutely love it, but I'm having issues finding it...)

YouTube - Urban Voodoo - "Brutality" (Brutality - Urban Voodoo - I'm not certain this song actually has much depth to it, but I connect to it on some level. Might be INTP related, might be just personal to me.)

This next song might be just me, again, or the depressed amongst us possibly?
YouTube - Save Me KMFDM (Save me - KMFDM)

Some of the lyrics I'm not sure are fitting, open to interpretation of course, but some of them sincerely strike home.
(*'s are my personal thoughts on each passage I've chosen to put here)

So when you tell me what you tell me
I can't take it anymore
The same old story goes around and around
You think that if you speak alittle louder than you did before
The point you make might somehow stick around

Family / Friends always give the same old advice that just doesn't work for me, it just aggravates and distances me further from them. I've literally had my family try physically and verbally force their points to me, so this passage is pretty personal and accurate.

Save me
I can't find my way home
The ground i'm walking on
The only friend i've ever known

*Searching for a path in life, never really feeling at home anywhere, our constant diverging interests in the entire universe keeping us feeling divided and lost, at least that's how it is for me. No real friends, just the journey of intellectualism sticking with me. The Save Me is the desire for help, but thinking no one else out there can actually help us. (I'm glad to have found this forum, it's helped a ton already since being here.)

Mother father
The battle I fight is for no one
No one but myself
Brother sister
The devil inside is my own now
There's no way you could understand
You don't understand

*Being one of the few rare types out there, feeling outside of everyone else's understanding, including / especially family, who always try to help but really can't do anything.

Mother father
The tears that you cry are for no one
No one but yourself
Brother sister
I travel this road on my own now
There's no way you could understand

*Representing suppressing emotion, not really feeling sympathy when we hurt others by shutting them out and keeping them at a distance. There really is no way they can grasp our journey, so we have to travel alone.

There is meaning in the rest of lyrics to me, but I'm not certain if it's really INTP related or not, the ones I posted above I think are more INTP focused thoughts.

Dammit, that made me so curious I had to retreat from the 70s briefly. I liked it better than Thievery Corporation's remix of the same song, as this one felt truer to the mood of the original. However I felt that the climax was really unfitting of the song.

ha. fully agreeing on save me and creep. And people are strange.

I don't like Tool =|

To me the most INTP band EVAR is Optiganally Yours. Songs such as:
Empire State Human (the character in the song is determined to grow beyond what other humans are capable of)
Gepetto (Think Pinocchio. The old dude gets swallowed by a whale. The song is about a person in an isolated space being so glad that he can be himself while he's alone. And he can cha-cha all day.)
Held (Direct lyric: he has a drink at the local bar and he tries to talk to girls but he knows their trite polite brush-off too well he tries to think of what "normal" people do in movies and TV but none of those guys think like him at all)
I'm bad at sports (he's willing to try, but he's not competitive and dislikes walking advertisements)
Poodleman (unsuspecting victim has his home invaded by a man who cuts his hair into a mullet without consent. No wonder we're afraid of physical contact!)
Remo (has no direction)
Stop touching me (character goes insane from unwanted physical contact)
Walk & Chew Gum (facial expression does not reflect deep inner thought. also can not walk and chew gum.)

*metaphorical* hand-holding, tyvm:
Savage Garden's Animal Song
When superstars and cannonballs are running through your head
A television freak show cops and robbers everywhere
Subway makes me nervous people pushing me too far
Ive got to break away
So take my hand now

Chorus
cause I want to live like animals
Careless and free like animals
I want to live
I want to run through the jungle
The wind in my hair and the sand at my feet

Ive been having difficulties keeping to myself
Feelings and emotions better left up on the shelf
Animals and children tell the truth they never lie
Which one is more human
Theres a thought now you decide

Compassion in the jungle
Compassion in your hands yeah
Would you like to make a run for it
Would you like to take my hand yeah

Chorus

Sometimes this life can get you down
Its so confusing
Theres so many rules to follow
And I feel it
cause I just run away in my mind

Superstars and cannonballs running through your head
Television freak show cops and robbers everywhere
Animals and children tell the truth they never lie
Which one is more human
Theres a thought now you decide

Compassion in the jungle
Compassion in your hands yeah
Would you like to make a run for it
Would you like to take my hand yeah

Hmm I have done a few videos of my photoshop play with some of my favorite tunes. Almost all are instrumentals, except for this one, I guess that for me, instrumentals express my self better than lyrical stuff...(?)

I like your taste in music.

And that Nouvelle vague song was dead on. Such a horrible feeling.

Here are a few songs I chose for various reasons. See if you can figure it out. The YouTube video is a playlist of the songs so you should be able to watch them all from here.

Modest Mouse - Life Like Weeds
Moby - Great Escape
Radiohead - A Punchup at a Wedding
Mountain Goats - No Children
Neutral Milk Hotel - Two Headed Boy
Cat Power - He Turns Down
Ugly Casanova - Hotcha Girls
Brian Eno - By This River
Sun Kil Moon - Carry Me, Ohio
Neil Young - Old Man

Also, I can't stand tool.. lyrically or otherwise. I remember when Lateralus came out in '01... I threw it away.

You might say these lyrics are vague and general enough to apply to anyone, but I still think it will resonate with some of you:

YouTube- Wishbone Ash - Sometime World

I met a man who felt the same way,
That the world had passed him by.
Told to me all his troubles,
That the world had made him cry.

Life had kept him waiting,
Regretting his pain inside.
Had to feel underrated,
And hated, besides.

Sometime world, pass me by again,
Carry you, carry me, away.
