Well, I am just for a short time on this forum, but soon I found out that many people here (including me) have a strange relationship to violence.
I, to be honest, hate violence. In real life, of course. Even when someone would punch me in the face I would turn to him the other also. Just as the good book says. No, I am not into Christianity and I am not a religious person, but it just seemed right to me. When I was younger and haven´t had my feelings under control, I was often involved in (physical) conflicts. Because of this I was often sent back home. As you can guess my father was not amused, but instead of talking to me or something like that, he just gave me two books: Herman Hesse´s Siddharta and Beyond Violence by Jiddu Krishnamurti. Especially the second one took a while. I discovered that violence just leads to more violence. Henceforth I never again picked a fight or something like that and became a so-called pacifist. To be clear: I always had an aversion to violence. The books just helped me to avoid it. Today I do not even kill gnats.
Heck, I can´t even watch live-action horrorfilms without feeling disgusted. Odd enough, I have no problems with watching bloody anime like Elfenlied or Berserk.
And I always feel concerned when people are having fun while re-enact war crimes in computer games. Or I am probably just a sissy and overact.
Well, that´s just my story.
But let us come back to this forum. The first time I saw the "Kill the last poster"-thread here I was stumped. It seemed so utterly grotesque, I had to laugh. In every other forum I have known, you would have been immediately banned for just opening such a thread.
And then there are the other threads full with horrible atrocities. I don´t know. It just looks like an odd substitute for "Hey, how are you? Nice to see you today.". But instead of those commonplaces you will just find there things like "I decapitate you with my steampunk-chainsaw-umbrella, sucker!" or something like that, I guess.
What do you think about violence?
