Yes, I agree.
And that is a saddening thing.
Partially because we have reached a size where not all the members feel connected to one another, and partially from being simply fed up, the decision was made in secrecy. That is, we (mods and admins) discussed it.
To not air our personal opinions re. Face on the forum was, perhaps, not the best way to handle it. But are other members interested in hearing us bitch about someone who is causing a headache for the whole forum?
Perhaps indeed it would have been more helpful to just open up an open slather Face bashing thread? I mean that seriously. I wonder now if that gives other members a better sense of being connected and defending their forum from trolls.
I also think that to do have done so would have created more attention for Face, stolen more attention from worthwhile debates and wasted a lot of peoples time.
So, pros and cons on both sides.
We haven't had to deal with anyone like Face here before, who feeds from the negativity they create on such a forum-wide scale in such a manipulative manner. Much of the evidence is out here on the forum, not at all hidden. I think anyone examining Face's behaviour both here and in the irc channel would recognise them as a troll. A very clever troll, sailing just close enough to the wind to avoid out and out retaliation.
I don't want to see our place here go the way of so many internet hang outs, and am happy to hear anything and everything being questioned.
Keeping a great atmosphere here for participation is really important, thanks for pointing out the concern. I see it is legitimate.
As we find our way forward through trollish waters and whatever else awaits, I hope we can keep the integrity of INTPforum .
