Flashchat

It seems that the flashchat was at least responsible for the server problems yesterday and possibly it is responsible for all server problems of the past.
Therefore we deactivated it to see if that is true.
The flashchat itself is like the board software hopelessly outdated and several users complained about connection problems with it.
If there are still server problems, please report them.



And if your name is Fleur you can now yell "I always knew it!"

I have a lot of fond memories in that chat. Sometimes I would go in there for the sheer nostalgia of it.

I think they're looking to update the forum software, as soon as Ragnar actually answers his email so they can set up a time, or at least give them his passwords so they can do it themselves. The forum software is way out of date, and so is the flashchat... so I'd assume that they'll put it back on when everything gets updated.

Are there any plans to reinstate the chatroom?

I miss it..I like it much more than the IRC, mostly because it was easier access, and the online members would always stumble onto it, while the IRC has it's own distinct crowd.

Oh, and the flashchat had Noddy and Lor.

Oh, and sweet little Auburn and Fleur, while Anthile was always there to ask questions to.

First record of a nasty Auburn act -that was!

Then we had this running joke, Lor and I, against Noddy, as soon as he entered the chat, we would make as if we had just finished, or were interupted in talks of a sensual kind.

So we'd say 'Cac, where'd my trousers go!' or 'Oh..er..high Noddy, don't mind the mess'

The previous and initial chat was Tufat's FlashChat --- a proprietary script from Darren's $5 Script Archive. Thus, it wasn't vBulletin specific nor an official Hack from vBulletin.org; although it was integrated with the forum with a Hack from there made for FlashChat.

Sadly, by 2009 one or both of these became outdated and caused problems in many vBulletin forums, such as these and especially in using too many CPU cycles: which may have contributed to the site deficiencies before the major forum upgrade last year. So taking the advice at vbulletin.org it was uninstalled, and the only one alternative from there, as an official Hack, that worked is the present one, Cyb's Chatbox, at the top of the front page. I don't think many people use it though, and perhaps it is not as good as FlashChat.



As Auburn, you kindly offered that mibbit chat with it's associated code, but none here could work out how to place it in the Navbar as a link, as html doesn't mix well with vBulletin's php structure: but it was very much appreciated.
