^Oh yes, I remember Silent Hill. It was one of the very few of that genre I had the patience for. It created tension and terror unlike any other game I've played, although I was also much younger when I played it of course. I still remember those almost-hot creepy-as-fuck nurses in that rundown hospital. *shivers*

I have to second Crash Bandicoot (pretty much liked all of them), the first Gran Turismo blew my mind too.

Jet Moto and Heart of Darkness.

I'll see your silent hill with resident evil 3, and raise you a resident evil 2

p.s. my moms name is Cheryl, so we NEVER got to play silent hill, lol
the calling of her name periodically creeped her and my dad out too much

I actually thought Blood Omen was the best Legacy of Kain game.
Resident Evil (original) and FF7 are also fine choices.

SPYRO THE DRAGON.

I am serious.

I'm prone to agree, but have you considered the Crash Bandicoot series?

I also think FF7 is pretty good.

SPYRO THE DRAGON.

I am serious.
Only the first three, but yes! I still can't complete the first game though (damn coordination)

Also, Soul Reaver (I think this has been mentioned), Crash Bandicoot and Monster Rancher (really good for passing long hours).
I also want to say Kingsley's Adventure, I love that game for it's quirkiness, music, scenery and crazy ideas, but I LOATH the game play and the freaking long dungeons that, if you lose your three lives, you then have to begin from scratch (It has sent many of my friends into the fetal position because of how damn frustrating it is).

I like how the words "all time" are being applied to a console only on the shelves for 11 years.;)

But as for me, eh...never had one, but I played them a lot at friends' places, and I'll have to agree with the people who said Spyro. I'm sure it wasn't the best game overall, but it was the best one I ever played.

There are very many good suggestions here but id say it impossible to name just one.

Id have to say the best ps1 games are.

Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night

Metal Gear Solid

Final Fantasy 7

Resident Evil 1 - 3

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

Crash Bandicoot 1 - 3

Tenchu: Stealth Assassin

Tekken series

Haven't played FF7 and have been heavily criticized for it.
Gran turismo is one of my favorite video game series all time and the two on the PS were great.
Crash Bandicoot 2 was good too.
Wow....Metal Gear Solid...the original PS wasn't too bad a system, was it?

The PS1 was my "golden age" of gaming, so a lot of these games are near and dear to my heart.

I think FF7 and MGS will go down as the most pivotal games.

Personally, my favorites were Suikoden 1 and 2, and Xenogears.

I could list TONS more, but those were my all time favorites.

There are so many great games... my top favorites would have to be Tekken 2, Syphon Filter (series), Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 and some others I can't think of. The PS1 dominated in story mode games.

I had the Xenogears demo, I loved that, never got the game, it costs way to much, but if I ever find it cheap enough, it is mine. That is really the only game other than Soul Reaver I enjoyed enough to want to play again.

I spent a lot of time on Twisted Metal. Damned good game. I spent perhaps an equal amount of time on one of the first 3D fighting games that had an old man with claw hands who would use energy spheres, big blue shiny beach balls, as weapons, but I kicked ass with the samurai-looking guy with a long spear. I can't remember the name of that game, but it was darned cool, because it was in a 3D arena and you could roll around and change your angle. If you fall off the edge, you would be dead.

There's the cop car in Twisted Metal shooting a missile. See how cool and fun it looks? It would look a lot cooler in 1997.
