In my case, it's a bit short. Especially now that it's getting a little chilly.
Really though, I may choose to do any number of things to relax. The only common denominator is that they are things freely chosen by me. I don't even have to be alone, necessarily, so long as the crowd's not too...
I'm guessing it's because we're naturally inclined towards introspection. We scrutinize our own thoughts and actions. Because of this, being diagnosed as an INTP is often a confirmation of things that we already knew or noticed about ourselves.
Without that introspection, I can see how the...
Some people think we're boring. I know my mom absolutely does not understand how I can enjoy something like philosophy. She's said so to my face.
But I know there are others that admire us or find us witty/funny/cool/whatever.
It probably helps if you're actually witty/funny/cool, though. :smoker:
What kind of engineering? Have you taken any engineering courses? Do you like the field(s)?
I ask because if you try to do something that you really don't care about, you're going to have more than monetary problems.
I'm also going to pimp my career path of choice: Software Engineering. It's...
Honestly, some parts sound very INTP and other parts don't. For starters, you sound a bit more naturally sure of yourself than most INTPs are, and you don't seem to have the childlike naivety, either.
I'm not really sure, though. I've heard that MBTI doesn't hold up well when you add...
I'm a dude.
No nicknames have really stuck on me.
6'4", 155 lbs, the very definition of a beanpole.
I'm a total sloucher. Hands are often in pockets.
I had really long, curly hair until I got cut this past week.
I'm actually okay with breaking out of my shell. I laugh easily and can even be...
I honestly have no idea what Basic Structure of Math would entail. Sounds boring, though.
As for pre-calc, don't worry about it. I chose not to take it in high school because I knew I wouldn't like it based on my previous trig course. I prefer things like Geometry and Discrete Math...
As an added bonus, I can usually tell when this is happening but can do nothing to stop it. At that point, I just start chuckling and shaking my head, which doesn't help.
Though it should also be said that I'm a terrible liar. I can pull off other kinds of deceit pretty well (lies of omission...
Half the problem with this is that the terms nerd, geek, dork, etc are so poorly defined. Everyone has different definitions for each of these, and they range so widely across the people spectrum that they've lost all meaning.
I thought we were supposed to be too good at focusing, to the point of being oblivious to everything around us.
Also, I'm curious: what was the math class you took before?
I've never liked the "big picture" line. It sounds too management-y.
In reality, we INTPs strive for understanding and truth. When we explain something to someone else, we want to make sure we're understood. This often results in wall-o-text posts that systematically explain the poster's logic...
Having a small F doesn't mean that emotions won't be powerful. It means that they are under-developed, unreliable, and usually naive. Because of this, INTPs tend to suppress their emotions, but they will inevitably still get out.
Having powerful, visible emotions simply implies that you have...
IMO, that question fails pretty hard. There are a million different ways to interpret efficiency in day-to-day life.
If you want to figure out if you're INTP or INTJ, you need to look at the individual functions. Really, it shouldn't be very hard since they don't have a single function in...
Don't trick yourself into thinking that this is a good thing. It's an obstacle for the INTP to overcome if he wants to have any sort of satisfaction.
Take romance, for instance. I know that I'm funny and likable. Even if I had my doubts, I've had girls tell me this to my face. I know enough...
Everything you say makes me think INTP. You identify strongly with Ne. Fe is present but confusing. Ti seems to underlie everything you do. Your reaction to the philosophy girl hints at an Si value judgement.
Assuming you're an I, it's gotta be INTP. You've probably just been developing (or at...
Re: Am I a Sensor: advantages / disadvantages
This is how it was explained to me. In MBTI the 4th dichotomy designates the Extroverted function, whereas in socionics it designates the primary function.
Then again, I'm no typology expert.
I don't know much about Fi (it's the least of my shadow functions, after all), but both of these points are familiar to this INTP. I've seen the chameleon thing brought up on these boards before, and diving into philosophy is standard procedure.
That being said, I agree with Auburn that...
Re: Am I a Sensor: advantages / disadvantages
After reading this and looking back at the other post, I think I know why I was getting the fortune cookie vibe. Your descriptions are just as stereotypical as the traditional ones you're rebelling against, except they point in the other direction...
I dunno about regret, but I do find it very annoying when tell someone something that I think is important and they don't give it proper consideration. And then they won't shut up long enough for me to explain myself.
Their loss, usually, but it's still frustrating.
Re: Am I a Sensor: advantages / disadvantages
To be honest, this gives me that fortune cookie vibe: incredibly simplified and not terribly accurate. I'm not really sure why, though.
Maybe it's because you keep saying "sensory/intuitive thinking", which in the realm of MBTI makes no sense.
I've thought for a while now that MBTI type names are horribly inefficient. If you're going to reform the MBTI naming system, why not go straight to the functions and call us TiNes?
It uses just as many letters as we have now, but it's much easier to tell which functions are involved. Heck, the...
His avatar is House. It must be true.
But yeah, I deal with this to a much smaller extent. I find walks to be very good for this and other problems, such as sitting in front of the computer for far too long.
Sorry about my last post. It came off a bit more accusatory than I intended.
At any rate, I've noticed that S and N seem to be the most divisive letters in Myers-Briggs. Even among the more objective rationals, there's a pretty big superiority complex revolving around that N. I know I have it...
I'm actually kind of proud of my first job. My last two years of high school I was a weekend news camera guy at the crappy local Fox station. It pretty much just covered my gas expenses, but the people and work were interesting and unique. I never really thought about it being a cool job until...
This. "She's a bitch >> SJ" is not a sound argument.
Also, a person's apparent type changes over time as they overcome weaknesses, etc. The only one who really has enough information to type a person is that person. (I hope that makes sense. It's late.) That doesn't mean they're automatically...
This is exactly the reason that I stopped doing the tests. My favorites are the subjective questions phrased along the lines of: "It's better to be this way than that way." Or the ones that ask if you like being unorganized or something. Maybe I'm unorganized and I hate that about myself. Or...
Anybody here play World of Tanks?
For those who don't know, WoT is an online multiplayer tank combat sim. It's free, but it has incredibly deep tank trees that would easily take hundreds of hours to complete in entirety. Gameplay is very tactical. Each tank has specific weak points. It...
As long as we're going with the box analogy... how do you escape the box if you don't know it's there? How many people are miserable because they don't understand the differences between people? MBTI is valuable because it promotes awareness of both yourself and others.
Basically, anyone who...
Happiness: I readily show this. I've been known to become excessively loud and even boisterous when I'm in a particularly good mood.
Sadness: It's been a while since I've been sad. Mostly it's just been the respectful sadness that comes from an older family member's funeral. I'll shed a tear or...
Haha after just a quick look on youtube I think I might agree with you. In the interview I watched, he looked constantly like he didn't want to be there, even though his answers were quick and witty (although a bit awkward). As for his T or F, keep in mind that an INFP will have Fi as opposed to...
I won't pretend to be a typing master either, but I do know that you have to deal with the functions, not just the letters. I've checked out a few interviews and such, and a few things jump out at me.
He doesn't make eye contact, which points to a strong N. Probably the more creative Ne.
He's...
Honestly, the only things I've experienced so far that induce total, irrational fear in me are treacherous/unstable heights and free-fall. Maybe they are related.
Like, I'm fine with flying and being inside tall buildings. Rock climbing is fine, too. But looking down over a cliff with little/no...
Yeah, that P at the end might as well stand for Procrastinator. I think this is easily the biggest roadblock to both success and happiness for INTPs. I know it's my biggest problem.
One thing I've sort of picked up (the hard way, of course) is that it's best to finish things off right away. In...
Sorry, I thought this was a fun little adventure through the complexities and inconsistencies of our language. Oh well.
Not true. If you don't go home (say you went out to dinner), and then you don't go home again (went to a movie), you still went to dinner and a movie.
