I think anyone would be. Their pets doubly so.
My folks live in the country, and I live in the city. As the years go by I want more and more to move to the country, but I don't think I could sustain my rock and roll lifestyle out there...:smoker:
It's all about lebensraum... the grass is greener and the mice is cleaner two blocks down the street.
My previous neighbor had a miniature Schnauzer - not to be confused with a "toy schnauzer"... this may be the difference between "lap dog" and "rat dog". She was an awesome little dog...
...or had a window box fall on them and break their spine, or caught distemper or FeLV...
Even with an indoor cat, stuff gets in your house - I think it depends on how many critters live in your neighborhood. Mine had fleas three times after we moved from an apartment to a house. They were...
Cats have an interesting sense of smell and memory. My sister moved out west years and year ago, and her cat stayed to live with my parents. She is now a very old and frail feline, and she's quite wary of children - she disappears if there are toddlers around for instance.
Recently my...
This is a favorite of mine. From their site:
"The Hungarian National Association of Radio Distress-Signalling and Infocommunications (RSOE) operates Emergency and Disaster Information Service (EDIS) within the frame of its own website which has the objective to monitor and document all the...
Rite?! That's what I'm talking about. I mean... there's also the alternative, that maybe our clones would be so awesome we'd need to be federally regulated. In that case, I wouldn't tell anyone I had one (or more).
If they work out the details (waste disposal and feeding etc), I would...
No, but cows are udderly disappointing... I don't think real milk comes out of those anymore.
Volcanos ruin good real estate... also disappointing.
What's really awesome is all the disappointment inherent in like... everything - variety is the spice of strife!
Have you checked that for what kind of flame retardant chemicals are in it? (I dunno maybe they stopped putting that stuff in there).
Also... all those mites and dead skin...
I have to go burn my mattress, now that I'm thinking about it.
But the rising (peaked?) popularity of sushi just exacerbates over-fishing and all the social, and political difficulties that arise from that. Now we don't know if we're getting farmed fish, fake fish, fish full of mercury or other toxins. There's an "all you can eat" sushi buffet nearby...
But the reality of dogs is that we've (humans) ruined them through breeding. In spite of their loyalty and general awesomeness we should feel really guilty about dogs and disappointed that they don't eat more of us for what we've done to them.
We already have trouble feeding everyone as it is (Re-worded, everyone has trouble getting fed as it is).
The system can't/won't do right by the children who end up in it, and we can't necessarily trust foster care or adoptive parents to do so either (and I'm sure there are better than decent...
A strand of hair has been wedged between the display and lid of my laptop for months. About 1/4 of the way up the right hand side, extending out maybe 0.5cm into view.
It has been there every day, in view, while I am working and when I am goofing off. I've mostly ignored it, the way you might...
Today has been either rough, or colorful in terms of earworm... depends on one's outlook I suppose. Ima just list here instead of linking to them.
1) UB40 "Red Red Wine": This one started last night whilst standing over the toilet. Hadn't been drinking, no kidney stones. I've been hearing...
I park down the road from Rook's place for a couple of hours and watch fruit bats fly in circles.
Usually Sunday is my recovery day. I don't generally make plans or seek out much in the way of social interaction.
It's a tough call... sending the message regardless of whether it's understood is at least an attempt to make your position clear. If she does end up pushing and you need to shut her down completely at least you will know that you did due diligence.
At the end of the day, are you going to be...
If I was destined to become who/how I am today then we're in a lot of trouble.
I like to think who/how I am now is based on my reactions/response over time to the world around me. Probably a composite of equal parts, everything I've ever seen on TV and caffeine.
I thought i needed to be more... zen. So I started reading some stuff and was all "wtf meh?", but then I read (more like listened to an audio book version of... not my usual MO but whatever) Alan Watts "The Way of Zen" which was a bit more meta and gave me... something. Maybe a foundation to...
Sometimes I rinse it in cool water in a colander which seems to accomplish two things:
1) shocks it and stops it from cooking more (I like mine a bit al dente).
2) washes off some of the starch.
Does he give you head bumps? That's a sign of trust (i read that somewhere once).
My cat was someone else's cat originally; they had a baby and were moving to a "no pets" rental for more space. It took a solid year before he really accepted me - It took some work. He seemed much like yours...
One voice in my head is totally shaking its cage to do just that; at this rate it will tear the door off. One of the other voices has a taser.
Soon. :)
There's nothing like that little paw nonchalantly reaching out for you. I put mine down a couple of months back (the inevitable came calling). He was about 16.5 - 17 yrs old and had been with me for about 15 years. I feel liberated now that I am no longer responsible for another living soul...
I'm with you... Generally I let other living things in my environment (specifically speaking of my home) "just be" until I'm clearly at risk of being overrun. Except moths... those bastids eat my clothes which I kinda need.
There's an awful lot of them. Nowhere near the numbers of an ant...
A month or two ago a spider established a web in my living room, along the wall under a window, anchored to a chair and the wall. A female Parasteatoda tepidariorum, my call sign for her is "Tepid Tea". At first I didn't think she was in a very good location but eventually a small collection...
I recentlyconcluded that one of my close female friends is one... keep in mind the only thing backing that up is an online test and some gut feelings based on long term observation and what I think or pretend to know about myself (fwiw she also scored way higher than I did on an sensitivity...
