Have you ever listened to a song that has been offending of any way?

I do not like the song called "Lonely" by Akon, I feel as if he is trying to offend all the people without someone in their life to care for.

I think that millionaire singers who can literary have any one they want shouldn’t try to act as if they are better then us.

Yes. It's called the top 40, generally. Chock full of trivial musical cliches, repetitive, uncreative lyrics, and people like it anyway. I find that repulsive and offending.

And "Lonely" really gets on my nerves for that reason too. Anyone that treats loneliness and solitude like that is offensive to me.

When I was 11 or so I got really angry and offended whenever that song by Eminem came on the radio. I don't remember most of it, but there was just this one part about locking his pregnant girlfriend in the trunk of his car and then driving the car off a bridge into the river that really pissed me off. He was very blase about it, too.

"Smack That"

AKON is a crude, chauvinistic man. Whatever... people are allowed to be screwed up. His pop culture success makes me wither up inside.

Yes, Eminem should be banned all together. He is a very offending rapper.

He was banned from australia for his abuse to the government. Don't worry we all most likely get angry when we hear his songs on the radio, television or anywhere else :(. The environment has become infested with people who have nothing better to do but say something against the way people act.

Off Topic: Example, Online gaming can get insulting when rude people start missing shots, losing stuff ect.

Songs that are offending? There are annoying songs, boring songs, listenable songs... and then there are things so aggravating and senseless that I avoid like the plague (anyone tried walking through a shopping mall humming loudly and trying not to listen to anything while a bad thing was being played?) I wonder what people think sometimes.

Offensive songs? I don't get offended by songs. I can get severely annoyed at them, mainly because they're just bad songs, but nothing further.

From what I remember of the days where I liked Eminem and all of that crap, that song was actually not offensive at all (except to the ears), since he wasn't the one doing the driving, it was an obsessed fan of his, fictional. He does this in first person as the fan, I think, which is why he talks about driving off the bridge when he does it. He then replies to one of the numerous letters the dude had sent him, which he hadn't had time to reply to, and then realizes that the guy he's replying to was the guy he had heard of earlier driving off a bridge. The guy had apparently done it because his letters weren't replied to, and Em didn't give him a signature. How the hell do I remember this?

Gospel Music! Very Offensive Stuff! :D

I saw a post on intpcentral (I just looked, I didn't post so I'm not cheating :phear:), that mentioned a debate on whether it is wrong to have sex to gospel music. I think we should make a thread about it, naming the best gospel songs to make love to. That way we can take ownership of this offense.

My Votes:

O Come All Ye Faithful
There is a Fountain Filled with Blood - (For you kinky goth folks)
Come Thou Mighty King - (For the insecure)
How Great Thou Art - (Also for the Insecure)
Holy, Holy, Holy - (Very orgasmic)
When the Saints Go Marching In - (also orgasmic)

(This forum used to be so classy, what happened?)

This should be a part of the thread on how to court INTPs. Crud, playing Gospel music while flirting with them might be the key.
I say 'them' because I do not find Gospel music especially erotic, though I am an INTP. Also, because I'm male.

sums up how i feel. i think mainstream hip hop and R&B is the music i hate the most (panzy alternative rock being a close second) mainly because it gives good hip hop music such a bad name that most people who have never heard it won't even give it a chance. that and its just uncreative, monotonous bullshit that gets turned out for the sole purpose of making money (which it does, unfortunately). whenever i hear someone listening to mainstream hip hop, i get physically ill.

reminds me of that South Park episode when they made a christian band to try to sell a million records. "i wanna get on my knees and start pleasin' Jesus, i wanna feel his faith all over my face!"

I don't think offend is the right word for me. Annoyed, very much so
I agree with Fernando on the whole Top 40 idea.

The song that gets to me the most is the one about apple bottom jeans. I really want to tear out my spleen when I hear that song.

I haven't heard this "Lonely" song though, guess that should make me happy.

Dude...that was the EXACT song I was thinking about when I was about to click this thread. I found that song to be highly offensive. I would have to research the song to find its name but I'd rather bury previous memories of those lyrics.

maybe i'm just incredibly desensitized, but i don't know how a song could offend someone. of course, i was able to watch "Faces of Death" without flinching. and if you think that Eminem song is offensive, then you must have never heard his song about killing his ex-wife.

I'm not easily offended.

There is, however, some irony in listening to "Happy Together" (which contains the lyrics "I can't see me loving nobody but you, for all my life") soon after reading about polyamory.

hehe.

I'm amused by all that you're-the-one-never-gonna-love-anybody-but-you-baby kind of drivel that's regurgitated in soo many songs. Couldn't waste the energy being offended by them though. Much more fun to change the lyrics in my mind.

...yeah, gonna love you forever till I can't be bothered any more...

Reminds me, there's a very old Bowie song (he started his career with some comic little pieces parodying the culture of his time) called "Love you til Tuesday" (Anyone else heard the classic "Over the wall we go, all coppers are narnas"?)

I am mildly offended by consumerist propaganda/sheep in training stuff sold as kids music though. I hates the marketing machine. :D

When I considered myself Christian I was highly offended by Christian music. With few exception it was sub-par musicians capitalizing on a market that would buy their CDs out of misplaced loyalty and desperation. There was no accountability either. I heard several artists rewriting secular music into Christian music, which is sickeningly easy to write. How much talent does that really take?

Basically all the complaints that were addressed in the South Park episode.

Oh, but the one thing that took the cake... Amy Grant was a very popular Christian artist before she released a record that had very sparse mention of religion for the secular market. It took off, and the Christian community BOYCOTTED her work because she "went secular" (a.k.a. published a record that wasn't exclusively songs about loving Jesus).

I really just hate anything that isn't intelligent, or that's obviously pandering to a certain market.

All that "Jesus is really great!" stuff is annoying, too. They don't need to defecate all over art, as well.

My sister used to like "hannah montana" (uuuuuhhhhghhhh) to try to fit in, she's over it now, but while she was playing it (loudly) on her stereo, I developed a deep, deep hatred for all things pop culture. Ususally, I am not subjected to such nonsense due to my choice in friends, so when faced with it, I get really annoyed.

agree. My cousins have some of that "jesus loves you, you love jesus" stuff. I got angry at the hypocracy of the whole situation, considering what the story of Jesus really stands for (being nice to people), and how nasty and mean my cousins are.

I find anything that is middle of the road, lowest common denominator to be utterly offensive to my senses. The sort of music that exists for middle aged men and women driving their kids to school. Why even bother listening to music if all you are doing is using it as the aural equivalent of flowery wallpaper?
