Does anyone like (or rather, be obsessed with) the TV show Doctor Who. It was my Dad (INTJ) who first began watching it, long before I was born, and I grew up with it. It is awsome. The 10th doctor is awsome. David Tennant is awsome. It is all a very INTP/INTJ thing. Any one who has not watched it needs to watch it.

Yes, i just got to know it recently, where i watched some ten episodes (max) of it (with David Tennant as The Doctor). I really find it great too ;) It first seemed to not be of much qualitiy, but hey, how was i wrong...

I definitely have to watch more of it (someday, i neither have a computer nor want to pay much money for dvd boxes...I'll see)

I watched the last half of the 9th doctor season (Eccleston). I'm overly fond of it, so I haven't tried to find the next episodes for fear of going into shock.

Same here; in fact my dad introduced me to Dr. Who the very first day I came home from the hospital after being born! :D

My all-time favorite Dr. is #4 (Tom Baker), but #9 (Christopher Eccelston) comes in a close second. I also like #2 (Patrick Troughton).

I can't express enough how much I love Dr. Who, and how much it has influenced who I am today. :)

I'm fairly new to the whole Doctor Who universe, but I'm an avid fan already.

The Doctor vs James Bond (I can dream can't I?)(They did AVP after all)

The Doctor would win.

...

oh, and by the way, is anybody else's favorite Doctor Who villain the Daleks?

Hmm. Daleks, The Master, The Cybermen, The Sontarans...

Yeah, I gotta say the Daleks are the coolest. :)

The scariest (known by me): The weeping angel statues (classic suggestion horror)

The coolest (known by me): Toss up between Daleks and Cybermen; Daleks have that awesome voice, but I can't help but identify more with the Cybermen.

@-Cybermen
Take me with you, take my brain!

Haha, that reminds me of one episode (it is the one where Rose got separated from The Doctor to a paralell world, with the latest, David Tennant) where Cybermen where conquering Earth and they in the process assimilated the chief of the british Torchwood Institue. And then later in the episode she comes as a cybermen and is still loyal to Queen and fatherland, always mumbling this mantra (For queen and fatherland, and her cybermenyes were weeping) ;)

Let me reiterate the brilliance of Doctor Who! I discovered it when Eccleston was Doctor and quickly became obssessed to the point where I watched the older episodes too. I have to admit that, though Tennant is an amazing actor, Tom Baker is my favourite Doctor. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing Steven Moffat producing Doctor Who. I can't wait until the Christmas special.

Start with Tom Baker before you watch the new ones (Eccleston and Tennant).

Now that Tennant's announced he's leaving, anyone have suggestions for the next Doctor?

Personally I think Hugh Laurie would be really good as an eccentric British Doctor, that is, if he could take time off House. But I'm pretty sure that's a very unlikely suggestion, as usually the Doctor is a bit more unknown.

I've just started recently with the last season of the guy before Tenent.

I have to say, a few episodes at the end of the third season were really good!

I love Doctor Who. It's one of the two current shows I will watch willingly (the other being House.) But I can never catch it on TV.
I used to watch it online, but BBC forced all of the episodes off of the internet a month or two ago, so now I have nowhere to get my Doctor fix. (I'm not paying for a box set.)
Does anyone know a place online that has it (besides a torrent...)? I'll be in your debt. D:

I thought I was going to hate the 10th Doctor. I absolutely loved the 9th (in a non-creepy way) and was extremely sad when my friend told me, when I was in the middle of the 9th's season, that the actor left. She said the new Doctor was better than the last. I wanted to smack her.
But now...I don't know. I definitely like the 9th better, but that might be affected by my affinity for
"older" things.

My favorite two episodes so far....hmm. Probably the one with the little boy with the gas mask (the one that walks around saying "Mommmmy....are you my mommy?"), and the one with the clockwork french guys who needed a brain for their ship.
Yeah, I'm horrible at remembering episode/season numbers. ><

The one with the living gargoyles... "Blink" I think the episode was called. It actually freaked me out; it was like I was a 6-year old again. I wanted to hide under the covers!

Brilliant! :D

My favorite doctors are Tom Baker by far, then Eccleston. I have to say though, Tennant has grown on me, especially when he takes on some of Tom Baker's mannerisms, like when he says, "Well...." when someone points out something negative.

"Blink" made me scared too, it was really strange because usually I can tell myself in the middle of any movie/tvshow that "it is not real, it is impossible because of...", however, with the Blink one and the some of the others, like the one where they go down into the center of that planet with the ood and the red eye thing, I actually feel worried for myself and people in the real world, not just the characters. I think part of this is because these are written in such a way that you simply can't rule out all doubt that they exist, like the fact that the one inside the planet is so far away (in space and time) that we don't really know about it.

Also, creepy statues are everywhere... I've always suspected them...

Yes, and all these shop widow dummies...When you think about going in the dark through a shop with them standing around...pretty creepy (well, this feeling may stem from the only time i watched "Beyond belief: Fact or Fiction" (and was highly disappointed to see Riker there ;) with a story about these dummies coming to life and butchering the dresser in the night...)

Loved "Blink." It actually kept me up for a while as I was trying to sleep. I don't remember any other television episode that did that. I liked the main character Sally a lot.

I just watched Blink (literally...it hasn't been 2 minutes since I saw it).
For some reason, it didn't scare me very much. Maybe a little, but I was too busy picking apart the things that were supposed to scare me and why they were supposed to be scary. Also it wasn't as scary 'cause [the angels just sent people back in time to kill them; they didn't die horrifically. It honestly doesn't sound like such a bad thing to me, but maybe that's because both victims were happy in their "second life".] (<-- highlight to read. I'm paranoid about giving away potential spoilers.)

I definitely want to go visit a graveyard now though. Or an old church.

Anyone else notice that the writers and directors of Doctor Who really know how to manipulate your emotions? The actors too. I seriously feel almost...bonded to a few of the characters. Especially the Doctor. Not to mention the end of the second series actually made me cry. Three tears. It's a new record for TV/movies.

And, one last thing...if you had to give an MBTI type for the characters, what would they be? The Doctor, Rose, Martha, et cetera...

I thought the end of the ninth doctor (in Parting of the Ways) was extremely emotional. I got really attached to the Rose character, and to watch her break through The Doctor's stony facade was really moving. Actually I have found several of the new Doctor Who episodes to be very moving. Excellent show!

I thought one of the most touching ones was the second of the Human Nature story, The Family Of Blood where the Doctor had wiped his memory and become human. Then Martha came and tried to get him to accept his old memories again but the "human" Doctor didn't want to go back and didn't want to die. That's probably the best acting from Tennant in all of that series and so sad. :(

I love Doctor Who! My friend convinced me to watch my first episode (the library) a couple of months ago. It's a great series and I love the mannerisms of each individual character (though not quite so much as the doctor himself). I found myself actually getting a little panicky when I realised that he was going to wipe Donna's memory after she became (how do I put this?) a half-timelord. Ahh. I haven't had the pleasure of watching many of the old series though. Perhaps I will.

The Christmas Special was really good!

I found it on the internet by searching for it on youtube 1 hour after it ended running in England. Muahahha.

Tip: When searching for it on the internet, type in "Doctor Who {episode name} part 1 of" because if it's the real deal it's going to be in segments. Weeds out the fakers.

I watched an episode of the second season on TV and became fascinated with the Tenth Doctor's personality. I decided to download seasons 2 - 4 to observe him further. The storylines are good, and the quality of them are increased with the presence of the Tenth Doctor. Blink was certainly my favourite episode (loved how it used concepts of quantum).

You should maybe watch episodes that do not revolve around the arc. These typically do not contain cybermen or daleks.

An arc is the general storyline of the season. The path of it. There may be one, two or three. Perhaps higher or lower, maybe none. Episodes which focus on this are there to progress the theme of the season. For example, the dalek's goal to dominate Earth. This may be an arc that continues for 8 episodes. It's a long story which is continued for a number of episodes.

I like this show a lot.

The complicated plot twists are fun, and I like the parallels/dissimilarities between the Doctor and the Master. INTPs can relate to their personas, weaknesses and strengths. I think the Doctor is either an INTP or an INTJ.

The variety of villains is good, and the whole storyline has history to it.

Favorite Villain: Master or Daleks.
Favorite Character: The Doctor, Tenth or Fourth mostly

I think the Tenth Doctor's an ENTP. He has stated two comments in the new show about having a mind which naturally connects events to form accurate explanations for the big picture, which suggests dominant Ni. The Doctor subsequently assesses all of this data with his thinking preference, I think, and ascertains its value.

E - His excitement with adventures, essentially, and consistent interaction with new people/environments.
N - His apparent intuitive leaps and general openness. The Doctor also appears to highly value ideas and new inventions.
T - He has nice Fe/Fi, but his thinking preference seems to dominate his decisions generally, and he is often aware of the need for sacrifices on a logical basis. The Doctor seems to become ruthless and callous when required. His feeling side is shared with his companions, which is expected of him.
P - He seems to advance into situations without a calculated strategy and rely on his adaptive abilities. The Doctor would certainly fail with this approach if he was inadequate at improvising. He seems to have a hyperactive, random mind which is open to data and constantly striving for further additions to the frameworks within it.

I never understood why people found the Daleks frighting. And not just children either, grown people were afraid of a robot which had a plunger as it's main weapon.

Since the 6th season is airing in a couple weeks this thread needs to be resurrected! Someone mentioned the 10th Doctor being an ENTP, I'd agree. I think the Doctor has always been an NT of some sort, and most often an INTP (yay us!). Actually, why not try and type them all?!

1st - INTJ
2nd - INTP
3rd - ENTJ
4th - INTP
5th - INTJ
6th - ENTJ
7th - INTP
8th - Not enough televised evidence, anyone who has read the books want to weigh in?
9th - INTJ
10th - ENTP
11th - INTP

I know a few people who were very skeptical about Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor. I must say that he has so far been a total delight. It's amazing that someone so young can play someone so old.

David Tennant himself is an ENTP along with the tenth doctor!! I've read this but do not know if it is true.

Dr Who Rocks!!

I used to stay up until 1am waiting for the show to come on PBS. They semed to have discontinued it out here. Apperantly a bunch of hicks in the sticks aren't interested in DR Who- they replaced him with a bluegrass show-Sacrilage! I thought it was over. Now I'm gonna have to go to E-bay and buy the series.

Yeah, the show went on hiatus for 16 years, stopped in 1989 and picked up again in 2005, so you have only missed a few years. Also, no local PBS station is going to carry the new series because it's exclusively licensed to BBC America.

yea, that sucks . It was like that with the Inspector Linley series also. Is there somewhere I can see them all online.
