Just a simple question. Do you think you have a good grasp on how attractive you are? Strictly physically I mean, and I know it's hard to separate mind and body like that. I personally can't decide, I go back and forth. I've never really just asked a bunch of strangers if I'm attractive. I guess I should do a poll.

I don't really know how to do the polls but I'll give it a try.

If the choices don't show up I guess A.) yes I know well that I'm attractive
B.) I don't really know one way or another
C.) I'm quite sure I'm unattractive
D.) Some mixture of the three/other

If you're that curious, just make a poll. Take a picture of yourself and have forum members vote (anonymously) on your appearance from 1-10. The result is probably one you can wipe your ass with however, as I'm sure plenty will jump at such a splendid trolling opportunity.

Edit: seeing the one vote cast, you think you're quite attractive, don't you?:P

I didn't vote haha. But I don't really care to post a picture of myself and turn this into an egomaniacal forum about how hot/not I am. I was really more curious as to whether everybody is as clueless about how they appear to others as I am.

I'm pretty clueless, but I don't spend any time thinking about my appearance. It just is what it is. I'm more interested in my behavioral quirks and how my personality (as I play myself out in different contexts) is being interpreted by others. If I had to guess though, I would say perhaps a 7. I'm not ugly, but I'm no model either.

I think I remember reading somewhere that in general, people tend to believe they are prettier than what they actually are. In similar fashion, people tend overrate their own intelligence as well.

My general feeling is that I'm really unattractive, however I also believe that I'm secretly more attractive than I think I am.

that way since my lowest line of feeling attractive is in unattractive, and I believe that i'm somewhere (but not specifically anywhere) above that, then I could still be unattractive, or I could be really attractive. it provides me with a sense of "this is the lowest I could be, but I should feel good because I think that other people actually think somewhat better of me" which as a general rule is good.

I also assume we're talking about physical attractiveness.

Yeah, I mean my attitude definitely changes a lot, I was in a relationship not too long ago, and I can say I felt significantly more attractive then than I do now. I think there are various reasons for that though. I still feel relatively attractive now, somewhere along the lines of "as long as I don't stare or smile at people like a creep most people probably wouldn't try to avoid me. shoot, some might even think i'm attractive."

I guess my point is that I don't think I'm unattractive enough to care, some people will find me attractive, others repulsive for their own reasons, and I think a vast majority wouldn't notice me if I didn't check them out at the register(i'm a cashier, not as in "checking you out;)".

Yeah I think it's us folk who rarely get obvious feedback who are of the most average attractiveness. I definitely also feel much more attractive while in a relationship.

It's kind of nice being in that grey area, where you're not going to gain a lot of hassles or advantages by being exceptionally good looking, but neither be limited in the human experience by being exceptionally ugly.

Y'know that bile at the back of your throat feeling when you check underneath you shoe and find out you stepped on a snail and see it's mushed up body with bits of chitin sticking out between the sickly yellow slime gore?

Anything less than utter revulsion is a compliment :D

I don't think I'm attractive. I think physically I'm maybe average at best, but in sync with my mannerisms and personality I'm probably quite below average.

That's the clincher really.

I don't think it requires any deep level of understanding or higher thinking, you merely look at people who are successful romantically, and those who aren't, and see who you resemble more. It just so happens it's the latter for myself.

haha yeah I feel that way some days. But that's just the thing, I always feel some way or other and find myself surprised either pleasantly or unpleasantly when I see a picture of myself. Other people I can judge a bit more consistently (if still subjectively)

My bigger problem is that when I see myself in the mirror I go "Wait....THAT'S me? oh...well...alright I guess, he doesn't look so bad."

I guess I lumped all the other possibilities and combinations in with "other/mixture"

In retrospect I should have just included more than 4 poll options! er...

No good reasons I guess

How couldn't I be? Had I been born a man and seen a woman like I, I would have bedded her on sight and spent the rest of my life as her slave!

I'm told that I am narcissistic. But that's really another way of saying you love yourself.

With only four options idk how you could expect anyone to answer as accurately as possible. However, option A fits me pretty well :D.

My face is a twisted mockery of symmetry, bone structure and skin tone. My body is a perversion of the human form. I have a smile that causes the sun to dim whenever I wear it. My mother always wears a sweater, because after giving birth to me, she will never feel warm again.

I am a bit plump, but the curves seem to be working in my favor. if fending creepy strangers off after they whisper to me that I am beautiful and like watching me walk in front of them is any indication. (this actually happened this week, a stranger whispered this in my ear in the grocery store)

I know I am pretty. I do not always feel it, however.

I'd have to say 7 outa 10 for myself. I've always liked my face. Sometimes I even look in the mirror and can't help but say, "Now that's one sexy man." It's always fun giving women the cold shoulder. Although, if they knew how weird I was from the get go. I can't help but be creepy. If I'm self conscious about anything, it's my tics and poor social skill when interacting with the opposite sex.

By shark standards or human standards?

by human standards of course, although in shark standards id probably be the equivalent to a mcdonalds cheese burger.

fatty, badly put together, generally unappealing and not very tasty

Hmm. I have been told I am good looking. I have even heard from other females acquaintances that some have described me as "fucking hot". I have a good physique shape that easily packs on the muscle(or fat) with the right work. My ENFJ ex-wife said my lips were the piece de la resistance. However I am also part related to chewbacca which does turn off a sizeable portion of females as many in my country are attracted to the hairless polynesian look.
I didn't think I was good looking at all till a bit older and I started to read about body language. Then I picked up that yes females did find me attractive, utterly oblivious to it till then.

Now however I find that I can get away with stuff I think because I am better looking. I have had workmates state a same opinion or belief as me but I will get a yes and not a no. It certainly is not personality as I have been told if I wasn't so good at my job I would be out the door.
This is deeply stressing for me as it shows me how biased the average sheeple is to their emotions and their distinct lack of rationality and logic.

Ugly as the visible innards of a gaping, deep wound. Not caring like the passerby ignoring the shrieks of the dying victim.

I dislike expressing so limitedly, so I'm going to keep writing until I'm satisfied. I've already mentioned what I will mention but I will mention it again regardless. [I think] I know I'm ugly, but I don't really care. Every statement should really start with [I think] for accurate delivery. Knowing is ever rare if not impossible. Nobody knows, for certain, how attractive they are and to whom they are attractive to. Added to that certainty of uncertainty is the relativity of the word. But, of course[I add as if what I will say is a norm idea], "attractive" is defined as confirming opinion of x>5 people, and from diverse demographics. Therefore, the key is to hear opinions or really, the ability to decipher whether the words and actions that may uncover opinions are sufficient evidence. You have to be investigative... :phear:

I've got a face even my mother can't love. When pressed she said, "uh...you're not ugly?" That's pretty much the best I've gotten out of her. :p

As for the rest. I honestly don't think I fit the idea of beauty in my country. Red hair, pale tends toward flushed skin tone, and blue eyes hidden behind glasses, freckles here and there. I'm a size 6 to 8 (a larger small or smaller medium in my country - I've noticed our size numbers don't match up well with other countries.) and my BMI is 22 and thus right smack in the middle of healthy which as your physical size often correlates to beauty means I'm doing okay in that area.

I have been told I have a nice round rear-end...and that's about it. Ah well, I am strong and generally more physically capable than my demographic. I'll take what I can get. ;)

I don't even know what the standards for attractiveness are anymore. There are so many different ideals. Also, it depends on who you're comparing yourself to. 0__o

DetachedRetina, nope! Wish I was, then I could have all that money and retire and spend time learning and thinking about whatever and whenever I want. Sigh.

Taller and better looking than him :)

I am pretty sure from all time we spent analysing people, that my ex would say of Kantor "oooh I definitely would" hah.

Does this only pertain to physical attractiveness or overall attractive physical, emotional, mental make-up? Personally, I have an attractive face, an average height, and a fairly built body considering my daily schedule is of sedentary activities.

The closest person I have to a girl friend (ISTP) I have once said to me when I asked her if I am attractive. She said to me "No, you are just too . . . too Brandon!" (Brandon is my first name)
