Hi, I'm a 52 year old university lecturer from England. I guess I am testament to being INTP by being old before my time and forever young - what is age anyway? I've travelled miles and centuries in my mind and still feel I am only at the beginning of life's journey.

I found out I am INTP only a couple of months ago - how I envy you young ones who know already - life might have been a bit easier if I'd known. But it probably would still have been a challenge for this iconoclastic, over-serious philosopher-child. I do a passable imitation of a responsible adult which keeps me mostly out of harm's way and has enabled me to be a useful parent to my gorgeous daughters even if I didn't manage to maintain a relationship with their ISTJ father (I thought he had hidden depths, but he had hidden shallows - he was just stoned most of the time).

Some of you may know me from Personality Cafe - thanks to cryptonia for reminding me of this forum too - I think I've spotted a few others too and maybe some with different names here [waves].

I asked one of daughters to describe me in 3 words and she said 'fun, interesting and argumentative'. I said, 'no I'm not, I just like to examine everything from every possible perspective'.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you!

Welcome SnowQueen,

This might sound a bit odd; but I really like the 'voice' you write in. It's very elegant.

A very valuable trait to any INTP. I try to do much the same; but I fear my own subjectivity.

Aye, I'm feeling it, too. You captured it well, Kaedri.

Welcome to the place, Snowqueen. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. By the by - did you find the slight irony kick two seconds later when you cross-examined your response and thought, "Ha, yea... I suppose some people would call that argumentative"?

Do you mind my asking - what do you lecture on?

Pleasure to meet you snowqueen. You indeed sound like a fun mom! (my mom is similar based on your daughter's description: she's ENTP though and my dad is ISTJ).

What kind of professor are you?

Hi and welcome to the forum, snowqueen. May you find interesting and enloightening discussions here. ;)
May i be able in 30 years to say as well "I am young at heart, i feel like my voyage has just begun" :)

And yea, i too like the writing style, that "voice" how keadri put it.
All in all i would say you seem to fit right in at our little retreat :D

Hi Sapphire Harp,

;) the irony was deliberate! My daughter laughed.

Pleasure to meet you snowqueen. You indeed sound like a fun mom! (my mom is similar based on your daughter's description: she's ENTP though and my dad is ISTJ).

Hi chocolate,

'Fun' is actually the last word I'd use to describe myself but both daughters said it independently of each other so I guess I must be doing something right!

to Kaedri and you - I run a Master's programme in occupational therapy and I build theoretical models about participation.

Argumentative... well, what would you like to argue?

don't worry Cognisant, I'm sure we'll be locking horns soon enough!

May i be able in 30 years to say as well "I am young at heart, i feel like my voyage has just begun" :)

you're an INTP, I can pretty much guarantee you will :D

It's funny you should say that... because snail and I were talking about it, and that's basically the conclusion she came to from talking to me. We just pop out of the womb fully matured, and then turn sillier and more childish with each passing year.

That's actually an interesting observation...(?) I never had a 'childhood' to speak of, so perhaps i am indulging in a second childhood at the age of 54, it is a shame that i do not have any grandchildren to share the experience with...

Welcome, snowqueen What do do speak on at University?
There are some fascinating threads in the Archives, if there is nothing going on a current thread you find intriguing, you are welcome too 'resurrect' any of them you find interesting

lol at least I know what a chip buttie is! It's nice to meet other English peeps on here and also people my own age!! (da blob, not you)

I was wondering if the comments about my writing style were partly because of a sort of 'accent' when I write?

"Self and Identity" and "Group Dynamics" (re:Paradox of Group Dynamics)?
Yes, I found myself to be about 30 years ahead of my time while I attended the University of Chicago as a youth so I dropped out of school and society, waiting for the rest of the world to catch up to me. It never did, So I pretty much have given up on Humanity ... I live on a farm in Central Oklahoma... (Pretty much the middle-of-nowhere)

well more like the relationship between identity and participation - are you formed by what you do or do you choose what to do because of who you are? What if the choices are limited? etc. With regards to groups - how certain activities change group dynamics. For example within 40 minutes I have a group of students all working quietly through chatting to noisily trying to negotiate their way through poisonous waters - and then get them to analyse how on earth I managed to basically manipulate their behaviour. Obviously this is intended to be used therapeutically not for world domination ;)

What about the Humanity on this list? would we be allowed to visit you on your farm? I'm curious - how do you make a living?

Thank you The Fury. I may have been a bit misleading about my heritage. I still feel like an outsider amongst the sassenachs. But on the other hand - Get Over It!

My close friend's wife is from Cork - she's an utter delight. He's INTP like me and she has an amazing tolerance for his more bizarre behaviour.

Sounds like you are involved in some practical applications of "Social Identity theory', this is something lacking in the US schools...

On the personal note, We tend to discourage visitors, most show no respect for our land and little respect for us. Everything has been paid for long ago, except for the monthly utility bills, food etc. We do some desktop publishing from our Macs using a satellite uplink in the front yard to generate a bit of cashflow...

Change happens, but through that change there can be whispers of the past taking form in different, sometimes almost unrecognizable shapes that seem to only allude to the spirit of the past, but are, in reality, the same in essence.:D

I was looking through some of Eudemonia's posts and I sensed it as well.

Welcome, SnowQueen, I think you will be much appreciated here.

haha wel, you remind me of snail's song...

The future's an echo from where you have been.
If you make a sound now you will hear it again.
The past is a ripple from where you will be.
Every wave from the future moves back through the sea.

poetry vs. prose...

Hi Weliddryn, and thanks for the welcome.

So, Eudemonia is a person - I didn't realise (I thought you were all just happy to see me ;))

Yes I can see what you mean - we were even on the same protest march and she is in a similar field to me! She may even know some of my friends. But she looks a lot more sorted out than I am so maybe I can learn from her!

I hadn't realized you'd only been here since March/April.

For some reason I was under the impression you'd been here longer than I had. I do take breaks, but it seems like it's impossible for me to establish myself in such a way. I'm kind of jealous of people who can do that.

Well, welcome to the forum, late. I wonder if I was gone when you joined...

I have really no idea why people have responded to me in the ways they have! It's nice, but I feel it's pretty undeserved - I'm usually left feeling humbled by the brilliance and intelligence of others on here, which is one the main reasons I love it here.

People like you are why I like it here. Not so much that any of you are intelligent.. rather that there's an air of uncertainty here.

It's probably not the best place to say this, but I also enjoy the wisdom people like Editor1, LoR, snowqueen, Chimera, Auburn, ect have to share.

I don't know how the dynamics work, but it seems like there are just those people who have a spark that other people like.

I'm like an anti-sparkie. It's better to be a sparkie though.

When it comes down to it, it seems like that spark is more important than most other methods... to get people to like you. I don't know how to put that. It's already been a long day.

Poof. You make contributions that keep conversations going. It's all good. Do we actually need to remind you to NOT OVERANALYZE? :) It can lead to mopery in the absence of others to slap you on the side of your head and say "Hey! Hey! Hey! WTF? Cut it out!"
