While going through the forum I found an argument about Legos and whether it was an INTP game or not. It got me wondering: What games did you play when you were younger/child/little?

I know I used to play a lot of shooter games: Doom, Quake, Heretic, and so on. I also enjoyed playing Tetris, FreeCell, Snake (the old Nokia version) and there was a game when you have to flip pictures and find the two that match. There was also an old Russian game where you had to look for objects and solve puzzles to advance. Besides that I played with the kids from the block and enjoyed more active games with ball, or jumping.

What about you?

I really liked building with legos, and also constructing "spaceships" with tinkertoys. I would make them big enough to actually "sit" in. Considering my size as a young child though, that probably wasn't particularly large. I also have always loved puzzles, especially the really large kind, with hundreds of peices. As for active games, I was never really the greatest participator. I do remember enjoying hide-and-seek though, because I always won :p
Sometimes, I would come up with these rather random little projects, like sewing an item of clothing for my doll, or building a city out of paper, ect ect... That, drawing, and reading were my main hobbies as a child.
Of course I rarely finished any of my little "projects"

Baldur's Gate. Yeah, really. I played that game when I was like... young. That game was a vital part of my process of learning english.

Chip's Challenge. Age of Empires. Some SNES games.

Street fighter 2, super mario, mario kart, donkey kong country... Later goldeneye, diddy kong racing, F-zero x, perfect dark, banjo kazooie, early tekken games, soul calibur, super smash brothers, virtual fighter, sonic (the dreamcast console one), mario 64...hmm, a lot of good memories.

About two years ago I tried a game called "chrono trigger". I downloaded an emulator version to my laptop. Apparently it was supposed to be one of the best rpg's ever... so I just had to check it out. Unbelievable how awesome it was. I was sitting in my own "chrono" world for 3-4 days straight with this old snes game.. odd how something so "outdated" can make such an impact on you if you are open to it.. highly recommended!

My first game was Day of the Tentacles and I taught myself reading with it. After that Monkey Island 2 and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

Besides from computer games I had of course lots of Lego and played board games with my sister.
I still play Monkey Island. They're a brilliant set of games!
I used to play Frogger (my first proper game), Pokemon GBC games, Rayman, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Black and White and such. I then moved on to FPS', RPGs and puzzle games.
Apart from computer games I played with Lego and action figures (I was big on Power Rangers from the age of 4).

Haha, yeah. I remember playing chrono trigger on my zsnes emulator when I had dialup. The storyline and the time traveling aspect was really intriguing.

My first game was Day of the Tentacles and I taught myself reading with it. After that Monkey Island 2 and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

Day of the Tentacles is one of my favorite Lucas Arts games. The dig is another favorite.

When I was little I played hide and seek, catch, football, cricket and whatever else i could find to do........................

I didnt have access to games until I entered my teens...... at that time I played.....

Street fighter 2, Samurai Showdown 2,3, king of Fighters 94,96,98, Mortal Kombat 2 and ultimate............lets see.... tekken 2, Super Metroid, Mario Bros 3, Mario World, donkey kong country 2, 3, star fox, tomb raider 2, metal gear solid, fighters history.......... lords of the realm 2, doom, quake 2, Hexen, star craft, golden axe 2............ And others that I cant really remember right now.....
Yeah..

I must also add that the games that are coming out now are all RUBBISH............
All graphics and no challenge, no intellectual stimulation..... even the RPGs........

It just hurts that there is not longer any challenge for me in gaming.

I know what you mean. As far as challenge goes on a difficulty level I can recommend the new Wolfenstein game and Devil May Cry 3. They are not about intellectual stimulation, but about shoot and slash. And oh boy! I had some difficulties on the normal levels I would like to try the hard ones, but repeating the same thing from the beginning isn`t really my thing.

SkiFree and Rodent's Revenge. What's bad is that you inevitably HAVE to loose in both games. In SkiFree the monster comes to eat you eventually (NO I DON'T KNOW HOW TO AVOID HIM AAAH ) and in Rodent's Revenge the number of cats just increase until you're overwhelmed. Which is pretty easy to do to a 6 (?) year old. I never made it past 3 cats I think.

Though now that I think about it, they were a lot more fun in a less addictive but play and let go kind of way.

I'm sure I spent literally years of my life playing with Legos when I was little. I made mostly spaceships and cars, though I had a thing for castles too. Same went for other building toys, of course.

I played random board games with my sister and a lot of card games with the family (dad was ridiculously good at rummy... grr). I also played chess off and on, but never really got into playing higher levels. I just didn't care to spend time reading books and memorizing stuff. Not to mention, I found most chess players boring :x

As far as computer games, I was into space games like TIE Fighter and X-Wing, and I lost a lot of time playing the Civilization series. Come to think of it, I still do. I liked shooters too, but more for stealthy, strategic play. Run-and-gun types felt kind of pointless.

I've also played soccer every season since I was six, except for one spring when my father forced me to try baseball. God, that was boring.

Rodent's revenge! Wow, I completely forgot about that game. I used to play it at school before class started. I also played with lego and board games a lot, but I liked inventing my own toys best of all (then not playing with them, naturally).

Uhm... as I was little, there we (with my brother and sister) had legolike things to play with, only made in USSR. After a while... I got legoes. But with computers. Uhmm.... prince and uhmmm.... that game with three vikings..... and leisure suit larry, and that game (I guess before doom) wolfenstein. (though before that time..... I did play two games with a computer called Juku but I really don't remember the names
After the time when "the internet" period began... duke nukem, transport tycoon and transport tycoon deluxe.
Shortwhile after... MUD games were my main games.... and when I got 17, I got introduced with runescape. As nowadays it is considered runescape classic.

Though I'm a "grownup" in a sense, I still play runescape every now and then. I'm still skilled in transport tycoon deluxe. But I don't really play games anymore.

Oh... and somewhere in between there was this game Uplink. Before that I did hack into University of Tartu and deleted some stuff before knowing how to erase my traces (only hours after watching Hackers 2 - operation takedown (15 at that time). So Uplink was my safe way. After receiving fifth notice that would end up in court, I quit "hacking". So now, I would consider myself knowledgeable in securing systems, but not with hacking.

The first was at age 3 or 4 when we learned to type DOS commands in order to run Micro Machines and Lemmings.

Then me and my little brother were given a collection of LucasArts classics, including Indiana Jones, Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion, Loom and Zak McKraken and the Alien Mindbenders.

Somehow we lost the code-pamphlet that came with the games, so we were left playing those that was without copy-protection and ended up playing monkey island, Loom and Indy256.
=D

That's how we learned English before starting in school.

Adventure Games still attract me, and I recently grabbed a bundle from MacHeist that gave me the whole series of the new episodes of Monkey Island.

Also, played a lot of SkiOrDie, Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein 3d and the subsequent cascade of FPS.

Hmm,

This thread title made me think of something else. Instead of video games I was thinking more along the lines of games in the yard at school.

From the age of 5-9 I was the king of the playground (literally). Everyone wanted to play my games that I created with my best friend. There were a couple of times where I had the entire yard playing my games - lol.

Sadly my power was lost over the yard when everyone reached the age of 10. The phase where you enter your double figure age and so you have to act mature... I call it The Death of Childhood. From then on, hardly anybody was interested in playing my games except for a few close friends who were like my knights. ^^

Weird how in one year I went from being a king to a mere jester that everyone became bored with and often mocked me. Thankfully I never moved on to that stage of acting mature.

I played tons with leogs, tinker toys, lincoln logs and the like. I would build huge cities and made every building unique. I had barbies too, I would try strings around them and dangle them in the stairwell to make them fly! Haha. I also had a fire engine and some dinosaurs that I adored.
I liked to play in the mud and with plants quite frequently ( and I admitedly still do :D ). There was a pottery bench that my grandmother kept behind the house that I loved.
I also played a TON of pretending games. Most of the time by myself. There was an empty lot behind my best friend's house just up the street, and we would go down there almost every day after school and climb around create stories that we would act out, things like that.

I did legos. Monopoly and other various board games, chess and checkers (which I sucked at then and now).

Atari games i.e. Pacman, Pitfall, etc.

NES: Mario games, Kirby, Mega Man 2 and 3, titles I can't think of.

SNES: FF4 and 6, Chrono Trigger, Killer Instinct, Donkey Kong 1 and 2, Super Mario World, Super Mario RPG, Mega Man X, other games like Super Metroid which remains forever godly awesome.

N64: Hexen, Ocarina of Time, Hexen, Mario 64, Goldeneye 007

PC: Diablo, Age of Empires, Nox, Tiberian Sun

Plus pretend games, other children games with my brother involving physical activity.

I grew up with Legos, but erector sets > Legos. I played board game like chess, Othello and Stratego. I always hated Checkers. I had a crystal radio kit. They aren't anything like they what's available now. Chemistry sets either. Back then they were comparable to something you'd get out of the $1 bin today.

Once I played Chessmaster 3000, I was hooked on video games. I was about 9 or 10 when that came out. My parents gave me $50 for getting on the principal's list at school so I went to Toy R Us to buy Super Mario Brothers 3. I was giddy. Doom and Duke Nukem were a great way to waste time.

Once I got into my teen years, I had given up on computers and video game. I spent a lot more time outside playing elaborate games of hide and seek with a bit of a "tag" element spanning entire apartment complexes (and roof tops). I played Magic the Gathering. It was a bit more on the darker side and less kid friendly back then. I spent time at school playing cards and hacky sack. Then pen and paper role playing games and little pewter BattleMechs in the afternoon.

I feel like someone who admits to having worn plaid bellbottoms.

Legos ARE the coolest toys ever. I loved them as a little kid and still love them to this day. If they werent so unreasonably priced I would still buy a few every once in a while. Oh, and my dad and I played chess since i was 10.
As for video games- Lemmings, Red Alert, & Wolfenstein 3D(with god mode on of course. I was only a little kid after all)

P.S. I just looked it up and Wolfenstein 3D was banned in Germany because most of the levels, when viewed from the level editor, were just a bunch of swastikas put together. lol. How awesomely inappropriate can you get?

Well my two favorite games when I was six were chess and command and conquer. I have always LOVED strategy games and have been very good at them too. I also was a huge fan of super smash brothers and after that pikmin.. You cannot tell me that, that game is not awesome!!

I made up games constantly, they were all make believe. Usually they had a story line and each player would be a certain character. I was always much more interested in the story rather than the actual game. Anyone else?

Make-believe, poker, mafia, hearts, solitaire, blowing bubbles, tag, monster meat (my dad would chase us and tickle us till we begged for mercy), tree climbing competitions, tic-tac-toe, checkers (never bothered to learn chess), legos, duplos, chase-the-cat (it means what it is), fighting as the leader of the powerpuff girls against power rangers (obnoxious preschool boys who thought they were awesome), hmmm..., Thomas the Tank-Engine (my brothers and sister and I would make elaborate train tracks and spend hours pushing trains around), POKEMON (cards and gameboy/nintendo 64)

And lotsa other stuff.

I also remember 'playing' Microsoft Dangerous Creatures and Microsoft Golf. Also this cool chess game with battle animations and stuff.

I did used to play lego as a child (I had a pirate ship and everything) than one day my grandma sold all of them and when I got pissed and told her off for it her and my mother said she only sold them because I wanted her to (that was the same excuse they used for my n64). Yet since I was still playing with them a lot at the time (and still would now) I highly doubt I said it or could even allow them to think I said it and that they must have decided upon themselves that I was too old to play with legos, I was around ten when it happened. Speaking of the n64, I had this console for most of my childhood and would play Zelda OOT and MM relentlessly for hours, pokemon gold, red, blue and silver also took up most of my time that school or t.v. didn't back then. Apart from my toys and videogames I never actually left the house and still don't (except for school and work).

Oregon Trail ftw, Number Munchers, Nethack and a bunch of FPS games I don't recall the names of. I liked to play outside and 'build things' with old tree bark, pieces of rock and stuff. Chase was also good.
