Agreed; "your mother was the least I could do" is just plain insulting.
lolz. If I ever see your comment waltzing about town I'll get mighty extra belligerent and throw things at it, anything I can find, even the clothes I'm wearing, the papers in my folder, etc., I won't stop chucking sh*t at it, with gusto, until the poor sap's written me a letter of sincere and heartfelt apology, but it'll have to find time to do so while being bombarded with soggy refuse and clothes; and even then, I'll pseudo-accept the apology, but wave a finger-gun in it's face just to ruffle it's feathers, and continue doing this to the point that it's feathers become difficult to ruffle, seeing as how they've already been ruffled so much.
To me, the expression reeks of false modesty, or could be interpreted as meaning - I literally could not have put any less thought or effort into this gift, and I'm letting you know this because I don't really like you.
*I hate everything I've written in this post, and wholeheartedly disagree with every bit of it.
