A parallel dimension of a thinker's creation
This is likely to have been posted before, but I can't find it (at least without getting sidetracked). I was wondering... we pursue whatever the heck we want to, and these things we study can be really random.

Does anyone here have-- wait. Scratch that. Most people here do have.

What are your hobbies? Things you've decided to master because you wanted to? Expressions of the love of systems and formulas that you can take apart to figure out and see how things work? Or just stuff you like to do.

Most of us have decided to do this with assigning MBTI types to people.

My trying-to-masters at the moment: writing well, RPGXP manipulation, karate, trying to improve my handwriting.

My hobbies: writing, arguing with myself, listening to music, accidentally memorizing the lyrics to twelve-minute-long songs like Joanna Newsom's "Emily"

Obviously, these are random and varied... are yours similar?

* thinking about things, so you're going to lose me in about fifteen seconds *

Reading nonfiction (especially in the sciences of astronomy and physics);
Playing the violin, listening to music, random internet searches, contemplation time, solitary walks, (is eating considered a hobby?). I'm also looking into more subjects for additional hobbies.

Teaching myself Japanese and Korean, working avidly on -ical theories, listening to music, wandering, delving into the computer world, attempting to draw surrealistic architecture, photographing -scapes, completing sudoku puzzles, crafting complex desserts; in general, learning, observing, absorbing and very occasionally applying. Yet I still tend to be bored...

Hmmm... Lets see

1. Reading - Philosophy, physics, books which connect unrelated instances, thought provoking fiction and diy guides.

2. Music - i've never contained or limited myself to any genre.i love to move from one genre to another. i try to find the technicalities of a particular type of music and the know-how to seperate the good from the bad. And when i'm satisfied, I move on.

Classic Rock->Hip-Hop & Rap-> Electronic-> Trance or Psychedelic

3. Surfing- Finding unusual sites and obviously Holy Knowledge. Also anything which makes my life easier.

4. Gaming - still on my gba.lol. Goddamn advance wars 2.

5. Poker - got 50$ on pokerstars somehow and made it to 172$. Will continue that once i get into college.

6. Sports - Squash or plain running. I totally suck at team sports.

Dont know if its unusual or anything but i try to keep a very open mind regarding my "tastes".

Reading. Fiction and non-fiction. Currently reading a textbook on freshwater ecology and learning to identify freshwater invertebrates. Revising statistics for a new subject coming up. Finished reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and Tree of Man by Patrick White. Commenced a series of short-stories by Thomas Mann.

Listening to classical music. Wagner at the moment. I also have a fascination with Bach. Jazz: Tord Gustavsen Trio and Anouar Brahem.

Going for long walks with my camera.

Project management. I have taken up the challenge of working with a committee, as it is normally something I would avoid like the plague. Everyone is 10-20 years older than me and I'm just soaking up their experience and knowledge. It is actually quite enjoyable.

I'd like to take up violin lessons again, but cannot afford it at the moment. Or purchase a kayak.........:slashnew:

Cool posts; it is refreshing to me to see how varied and yet similar the hobbies are; we INTP's are pretty cooooool people:

Mine:

1. Writing sonnets (mastered)
2. Trying to master writing screenplays
3. Trying to master electronics, with some success, but a long way to go...
4. ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, designing and building tube amps, but theoretically I've got it....
5. Trying to master dating, God help me....far from "getting it"
6. Stem cells (very passionate hobby; my life is on the line, but it's not my job)
7. Listening to old vinyl, especially symphonies by Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Tippet, and so on...except, never, never, Wagner :beatyou:
8. Reading all 20 Patrick O'Brian Aubrey/Maturin novels over and over again, probably on my tenth time now through the whole series, it never gets old!!!!
9. Losing weight while maintaining sanity more or less (see #5) :)
10. Doing weird and crazy chemical and hormonal treatments on myself (see #6) :borg:

I like making logic games out of objects I find on the forest floor.

Most of them aren't very original. For example, one involves using three or four sets of objects, like four identical sets of one leaf, two stones and a feather, and scattering them on a flat surface, one at a time. Then you use twigs to try and 'pen' them up, either by object or by set, only you have a set number of twigs to begin with, each with set sizes.
Normally four small ones and five larger ones.

I also like long walks on a short leash.
