Jabberwocky? I LOVE that poem! One of the greatest from my childhood :D (sorry, tangent)

oh, i'm also from PA (Butler, just north of Pittsburgh). I've heard of Chambersburg, but I don't remember where exactly it is. It's been a long time since I spent any decent amount of time at home :P

with that sort of reception, I'll forgive you! ;)

It is along Interstate 81, about 20 minutes from the Maryland border, in southern Central PA.

I've heard of Butler. That would probably be 4-5 hours from Chambersburg... it's a decent hike along the Turnpike to get to Pittsburg itself.

Wait... and you're in... Israel... now?
There must be a story there somewhere.

hahahaha you know the whole "search for myself" theme? Well, it took me both here (Israel) and here (INTP forum) :P

enough about me, let's see about others! I'm interested in learning more about those on the forum :D

Family MBTI = ESTP (father) + ISFJ (mother) + ISFJ (sister)
!!? Sorry... dyou want to elaborate on them, at all? Of all the types, ESTP looked second most likely to be controlling and piss me off (next to ESTJ)--especially as a father, and ISFJ looked the most likely to cause quiet friction with INTPs until they both explode--especially as a mother. How does that work out for you?

Also, I'm about an hour south of Butler right now (in Pittsburgh at college), and Chambersberg is literally a dead split between here and my home (in Philly)... I pass right nearby on the drive over. Fun facts.

!!? Sorry... do you want to elaborate on them, at all? Of all the types, ESTP looked second most likely to be controlling and piss me off (next to ESTJ)--especially as a father, and ISFJ looked the most likely to cause quiet friction with INTPs until they both explode--especially as a mother. How does that work out for you?

My family dynamics are pretty complex due to my dad's alcoholism, at least in the impact it had on me as a person. (I played the conventional roles of Good Child & Lost Child; my sister did the Family Savior thing.)

My father was never home when I was awake (he would often come home late at night after we were all asleep, I would hear him downstairs stumbling around and doing his "thing"), so the explosions were kept way down. But when he was home, he could be a real bear and he would consistently violate relational boundaries. I avoided him as much as possible, because he would never listen to anyone's ideas or feelings, he would just override them as insignificant to his own; and that hurt and frustrated me so badly. At times I know I have hated him.

My mother is the sweetest person you will ever meet (soft-spoken, kind, gentle), but she also lives in an Si haze and is so kind that she actually is annoying because for many years she had no spine to take care of herself and because she would do impractical and even counter-productive things out of "kindness" for others -- causing more trouble than help. And there was no way you could approach her about it; at best she wouldn't understand, at worst she'd just get into a pity party and go off and cry incessantly.

Both of my parents invalidated my sister and me in different ways.
My father would immediately tear/shout me down in any disagreement.
My mother would cry dreadfully if I said anything she didn't want to hear.
Because I am so empathetic, both were devastating and I withdrew and became a "non-person" and lived only in my head.

For years, I suffered from social anxieties and always felt shame around others when they noticed me and I had no real "voice"... although now I am really healing from that and feel very strong... finally. But in the past I would just do the INTP thing and withdraw and flex to accommodate everyone. It is just that finally I wanted to be part of the world, and so that strategy no longer worked, and I had to face my fears and engage.

I still see bits of my parents in me.
Inside, I think more like my dad.
Outside, I act more like my mom.
I think now I'm a good composite of both, and I'm finally really free in many ways, although it still hurts when I think about it.
I wish they had understood me.
(They still don't, they're upset with me partly because I'm free of them, and we are mostly estranged at the moment.)

As far as the types go:
ESTPs tend to really piss me off, I don't trust them -- they have different goals and desires than me, they always want to game the system rather than discern the system and honor the essence of it. I am always wary around them.
I get along very well with ISFJs and actually have very good Fe and Ni (so I have an INFJ face I can use in public -- very equitable with ISFJ.) I just have had lots of good friends and family who were ISFJ, so I really do understand them even if at times the martyr thing has driven me wonky.

Also, I'm about an hour south of Butler right now (in Pittsburgh at college), and Chambersburg is literally a dead split between here and my home (in Philly)... I pass right nearby on the drive over. Fun facts.
Ah, okay. Where do you live in Philly? :)

oy sorry, didn't see you'd responded to this (really, really busy this week and last week at college) jenny... thanks. That's... actually not very far off from what I was expecting, minus the alcohol, but with the same problems centered around another source.

How many other people here were almost forced, or at least pressured, by the people around you and the different way you see things, to withdraw into their heads to live? Of all the many similarities you can find here between people, the biggest ones by far that have nothing to do with personality or worldview are some kind of depression and being misunderstood. I'm sure those aren't very unrelated. Just curious, cause my parents were similarly invalidating/discouraging--just with feelings, introversion, and perception (the mbti trait) more than anything else. ENTJ/ISTJ, a very concrete and "practical" combination (although I hate that definition of the word practical) with a high importance on doing "your job," which is, of course, whatever you're told. That'll make anyone with INTP tendencies flee into their head and make a nice nest there.

oh yeah, and I'm from the suburbs of philly actually, like 10 minutes west of the city.

Female!
Oldest child (of 2)
Right-handed, but I do all foot activities (snowboarding, figure skating) goofy-footed.
Feet of normal width with a fantastic arch :D
Parents still together
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 115lbs
Eyes: Green-brown
Hair: Blonde-- dirty blonde, not platinum. I don't know why that matters, but I always feel like I have to specify.
Skin: White
Ancestry: Polish/French
Country of birth: USA
Medical issues: None that I know of... Except that recently I've been blacking out kind of frequently. Debate currently going on about whether I'm anemic or I just eat too much Nutella (taking advantage of my metabolism while I've got it). I suspect the latter.

Childhood: Can't really complain. For some reason I was socially inept to the point of worrying my parents. MAJOR tom-boy. Seriously. I wished I was a boy. Not anymore, and I think it mostly had to do with my difficulty relating to other girls-- INTPs are mostly guys, as I'm sure you've noticed. Both of my parents (INTJ and INFP) are PHd scientists. This may have had SOMETHING to do with my personality type. My sister is the weird one in the family (ESFP) but the normal one when we're out THERE (a.k.a. the real world). GT schools, magnet schools, surrounded by a bunch of other smart, intellectually-passionate people (and some not so much)... Not really socially awkward anymore, although slightly unconventional in social situations, and some people don't get my bluntness. Uh... Parents are Christian. When I realized that I was an Atheist, my mom disagreed with me. Arguments ensued. Pretty good, all in all. At one point I was convinced I had power over the wind. Those were good times. Oh yeah, public school.

Sports: Hate TEAM sports, with balls. BORING. I figure skate. Unsurprisingly, I can't seem to force myself into the stupid outfits, and I can't make myself do those stupid, "artistic" arm gestures, but I'm pretty good on a technical level. Bored of it though-- it's been 10 years.

I want to hear more about that.

I used to think telekinetics was possible, although the degree of spatial awareness and effort required was beyond me. I was too lazy to spend enough time staring at an object to prove/disprove it, figures.

O: I had no idea this thread existed. I want to post my oddities too~

Female
Youngest of three (two older sisters)
American (a mix of German and a bit of Scottish, if I remember right)
Entire (immediate) family born in Tennessee
Parents still together
5 feet 6 inches (last time I checked)
I actually have some muscle; I've always been pretty strong. (The guys in my grade hate it. ;P )
Olive skin, kinda pale-ish
Medium brown hair
Blue-Grey-Green eyes (in order of amount of color present)
Right-handed
No allergies or medical conditions. . .except I have random panic attacks that appear out of nowhere. I'm getting better at handling those though
20/20 vision, used to need glasses, don't anymore
Never have broken or dislocated anything
Have never been majorly wounded/been sent to the hospital

Hmm...I've had a relatively "normal" childhood so far. My mom (ISFP?) is one of my favorite people in the world and has been for a long time. She isn't a genius, but she definitely isn't stupid. I guess she's just above average intelligence-wise. My dad (ISTJ?), on the other hand, is someone I despise. Our relationship has steadily declined over the years and now at this point I can hardly stand to talk to the man. He isn't an alcoholic, and he has never physically abused me, but...well, it's complicated. My sister (ENTP?), the middle child, is the most precious person in my life. She just went to college in the fall, and I miss her terribly, but she comes back to see me on the weekends.

Male gender
Right handed
Normal-Arch (I like my feet)
Parents divorced (Dad left my Mom when I was 1 for another women)
Height: (6ft, 3inches)
Weight: 250 lbs (chubby but muscular build)
Eye color: mostly brown (brown around pupil; green around that)
Hair color: mostly brown (varying degrees of brown with sporadic red and blond sort of natural highlights.)
Skin colour: fairly pale (freckles)
Ancestry: Mutt --- Verified: German, German-Russian, Irish, Swedish, English, French, Norwegian, 1/16th Native American possibly 1/32nd -- Can't really tell by looking at me or my dad -- My grandmother I get it from I think I can tell a little. The most telling sign I've seen is the lack of facial hair of my dad -- he cannot grown facial hair.
Country of birth: United States (North Dakota)
Medical:
-multiple brain concussions as a child
-broke arm and hand bones when I was 14
-Vision 20/15 (that's better than 20/20 thought that was interesting)

Childhood:
Didn't see my father much -- Grew up with two older sisters and mom. Spent a lot of time alone -- took care of myself a lot. I used to make French toast before I was in Kindergarten. A lot of people find this hard to believe. I remember standing on a kitchen chair to reach the stove. It was not difficult for me -- my mom went back to college after my dad left so my oldest sister (little more than 4 years older) was "in charge a lot" we were pretty poor. We used to get powered milk and during the first Iraq war we got like government surplus cans of cookie dough. Mom eventually got a mediocre degree and a pretty lower-paying job but we got by.

That said, my Mom essentially raised us kids on her own and we all turned out well. Oldest sister is an RN (registered Nurse) and teaches nursing at a private college. Second oldest got an elementary ed degree and started her own daycare (she's actually starting a center now) and then I do a IT stuff but make pretty good money.

Lost, after wandering irresponsibly away from the
Female
Oldest child: I'm seven or eight years older than my next sibling and 16 years older than the youngest.
C-section birth/normal term
Right-handed
Arch-footed
Parents divorced when I was an infant. Both later remarried: I'm the only child they had together, although I have three brothers (two my dad's, one my mom's) and one sister (mom's).
Height: 5'
Weight: 8 st. (Both of these are constant from age eleven.)
Eyes: hazel/green
Hair: Brown
Skin: White. Really, really pale. I don't get outside at ALL.
Ancestry: Born in America, (Irish/German/Italian immigrants, geneology traced back to Scottish settlers before War of Independence). Now live in Ireland, have also lived in UK.
Pasttimes: I have always loved music, drawing and reading. I have been a member of the choir of every school I've ever been in, except one. Same thing for band. I play trumpet.
Medical issues: Family history of cancer (maternal) and sinus problems(paternal). Sinus problems have manifested themselves. Possibly because I broke my nose when I was seven. Story below.
Constant pain in side, doctor says it's either muscle spasms or psychosomatic, from depression.
Asthma when young, disappeared completely around 10 years old.
Tendency to feel miserable and apathetic. I also have recurring paranoia that my stepfather hates me (which is, when analysed objectively, pure BS, but it won't go away). Doctor thinks all this may be depression; I don't care enough to find out.
My brother and sister on my mom's side are both autistic: brother mild, sister severe.
Generally completely unaware of surroundings; I have a tendency to walk into/trip over things around me.

Case in point: I broke my nose when my mom was taking me to the supermarket. I was seven. I was running around like a lunatic for some reason I couldn't remember, and I ran into the trolley bay, with the metal rails all around it. Metal bars that just happened to be at the nose-height of a certain seven-year-old present. BANG.

The Legal Advice team asked, and I replied (I had to qualify):

White Caucasian male, hetereosexual, income low, savings zilch, English (ancestry believed to be Kentish south), normal number of digits on hands and feet, psychedelic (strong NP), Religion (I said Pass): henotheism, propensity for getting drunk on small amounts of alcohol, slow fuse to anger, straight from friendly to caustic when riled, sleep is poor, laziness is unfair comment when in Tortoise mode (rushing around is vexations to the spirit), misunderstood by all SJ Guardians (they refuse to change), periods of acute shyness (handicapped).

This is just a little nature/nurture experiment in relation to the INTP classification.
Only child, Premature birth, Male gender, Right handed, Flat footed, Parents divorced (I was roughly six), Height: 6ft, 2inchs, Weight: 90kg, Eye colour: brown, Hair colour: brown, Skin colour: fairly pale, Ancestry: early Australian settlers / British immigrants, Country of birth: Australia, Medical issues, -heart palpitations as a child, stopped about age 7 (unexplained cause), -tumour removed from stomach as a baby , -no broken bones or fractures, dislocated shoulder as a baby, Mentally unstable relative tried to kill me twice, when I was a baby

This may be amusing for social reasons, so keep at it people. However, type is not hereditary at the scope of a few generations, which is clear when one looks around at the varying types in families. If type is environmental, then the appropriate way to get to that would be to first show how type is not life persistent, which is currently accepted in the field.

Woah! This was certainly dug out of the tunnels of time...I don't think I need to post my info here really. It was interesting to look at all the similarities and, lets face it, lack of similarities here.

Nope I have 2 brothers and sisters.. But non of them are "full" my sister has same mom but different dad. my brothers have same dad different mother. And my sister is the only one older than me.

I don't quite remember.. But I think It's was a late birth

I am indeed male

I'm left handed! (Anyhow, putting up "righty" as a characteristic is pretty stupid.. 70% of the worlds population, or something like that. Are righties

I am flat fooded

My parents were never even engaged.. They were chit-chat for 2 weeks and then I came along.

Last time I checked I was 182 CM.

50-55kg. I have EXTREME metabolism. I can eat butter and drink beer 24 hours a day, without gaining a single pound. I am pure muscle and bone, litteraly.

Eyes: Grey/green

Hair: Dark brown

Skin: Pale, very pale. But if I take a walk in the park I come back home, tanned.. It's insane.

Ancestry: Would be vikings, as I am a full blooded Scandinavian!

Country: I was born in Denmark, but I'm part Norwegian part Danish. And if you want to go a out all the way with great grandparents etc. I'm also part Finnish. My great grandmother was a Fin. My grandmother was part Norwegian part Finnish.
My mother Norwegian, father Danish. Do the math yourself! =P

Medical Issues:
Non, so far. Not anything "serious" at least. Actually I just remembered that my heart stopped just before birth.. I was very close to death, but for some reason they still decided to let me be born "naturally"
And I'm severely Aracnophobic. It's not like I go "ewww, get it away" But if I wake up and there is a spider on the wall, above my head or something like that, I feel like I've just been shot. I get scared like nothing else not hysterical, not at all. But scared.. It's extreme.

Childhood: (Quote myself from another topic) I've had my share of "bad" childhood.. Drug addicted father, heroin mostly (He was a father to me, My real father wasn't around) Him trying to strangle my mother, carrying away my little brother 3 AM, threatening to throw him off a boat or something. Smacking me a couple of times. Waiting in the car for 6 hours because he had to "talk" to some friends.. Not getting dinner because he had to go to the bathroom for a wee (which apparantly also took 6-8 hours) finding his stupid fucking needles all over the place. And nicely hiding them again because I didn't want my mom to find out and leave him. (which I did for around 4 years or something)
NO friends at all, teachers were against me, because I was a troublemaker etc.
Being forced to see a psychologist 6 times because my teachers felt that something had to be "wrong" in my head. They figured I had ADHD or a depression. Didn't have ADHD, but she wanted me on anti-depressants at one point, which I plainly refused.
I despise depression. My mom, on the other hand.. Is a organic-hippie kind of person, she was a pot head before I was born and in my very early days. But she eventually decided to "grow up" as she put it herself. So I spent most my time in a place called "Christania" (before we moved from the capital) Which is a place for hippies, a city in the city.. People built their own houses, had gatherings, concerts. swam naked in the lake etc. Just imagine an all-out hippie camp as a village withing the capitalistic rightwing capital of Denmark. Now that was an amazing place. (it was in the beginning at least, now it has as much criminality as any other part of the city)

I am very socialistic. But I'm a socialistic Darwinist if that makes any sense. I believe in helping everybody, but only to the point where they begin to abuse or not appreciate or utilise the help that they get. That's where I leave them in the mud, and move on myself.

So I would say I have almost nothing to do with your characteristics.
But there are always X's amongst the ticks.

This covers most of it. Oh! I guess my age is pretty useful as well. I'm 18 in like 3 days.

Part of that may be due to your age. I had a similar metabolism which held out against all kinds of dietary excesses until I hit early 30s. Even now, I can lose weight very easily - I once signed up with Jenny Craig for a laugh and almost made the confused little reps' heads explode because I could guzzle pizza, chocolate cake and entire roast chickens all week long and still lose weight.

(I also found out that I should never, EVER mention this fact to any woman who has dieted. The looks I get could kill an elephant.)

Yeah I've had that alot of times girls going "I wish I had your calves!" - "Go the fuck ahead!" Hehe. And most girls do give you very 'unpleasant' looks, when they find out that you actually weigh less than them.. One thinkg I absolutely hate, though. Is when people go "Wow, I wish I was you!"
All the focus on fat/overweight people and everybody tells me I have a "gift" with my metabolism... Fuck you! People don't realise how much it sucks to look anorexic when you are healthier than ever, and when you lie down on the beach. Your hip bones stick out like you've starved for 3 years, and all ribs are visible at all times. Plus my spine looks like Gollums spine, with all the bones sticking out from the back..
And then specially as a guy, where a certain body size is alway wanted/desired. It sucks just as much as being fat.

I live in a small town close to Ribe, but I'm moving to Aarhus later this year. Can't wait to get away from the small town mentality. You?

Bornholm! =) I love small town! 'stuff' as long as I can get to different shops I want to get to etc. I really love small towns, I hate copenhagen with all it's flats. Even though I was born and grew up there (Amager)
But as you can read In my post I'm not all Danish though, hehe.

By the way.. I like your quote.. I used it several times in other threads before you joined. For me truth is everything! If I'm famous but it's not really the fame I think it is.. Then it's not really fame is it? And if I'm in love but my partner isn't.. Then it's not love?

(I like McCandless version better though, he just rephrased it and but a "fairness")

Well, having lived in the same small town my hole life I can't say that I love it. All the gossip and knowing everything about eachother isn't my cup of tea. But I quess that if I had grown up in the city I would have had a dislike for that instead.

It's one of my favorite quotes. Sometimes I feel that a lot of people say and do things that they don't mean and I can't stand that. I first heard the quote in the movie. I think it's a great movie and I actually cried at the end. The book is even better though and I also want to read Walden, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
