I laughed. (In my INTP fashion; without any actual vocals, just grinning.)

I was thinking about something similar the other day. The mbti descriptions have such a strong nt bias and every description of an ENTP makes me think of the "sidekick" enviously describing his cool friend.

In typical ENTP fashion, that person is just putting something out there to get a reaction. It's like an experiment done by tinkering with things in the outer world, not the inner world. It's like he is stirring things up to see what happens, and from this stirring find some possibilities. This is one of the many reasons why I think ENTP's are crazy. What I see as social risk taking, they sees as stiring up possibilities.

ENTP's are way too proud of their ENTPness. they like to take it out from time to time and get a reaction. It's crazy.

Yea, although he probably just made a historic remark (speaking oof the Germans during the Nazi period) i think he is right. Germans really are quite traditional/by the book/systematically (meaning rules and norms (think of DIN) for everything)...

If you're a good person who can think rationally - you're an NT-Rational. If you're a loser, or a fat person, or someone who cries all the time, you're in one of those other categories.

Yes, I understood that he meant WWII, he also had a picture.

That there are a lot of rules and norms doesn't mean that's the way Germans are. It only means that for some reason SJ's are very predominant in the "administration", though I don't think it's much different in other countries.

And it's also true what he said about the Presidents.

Does this explain words like: Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz ?And what's up with all TV in foreign language needing German voice overs?

I know that not all Germans are this way, but it is a part of the societal atmosphere.

@Luzian: Yea, something like that ;) Though in that regard one has to say that the E.U. is waaaay more regulatory than anything else i know :D
Uhm, i think they view it as a feature, not a bug. The synchronization of tv shows, movies and interview-statements i mean. It is considered a mark of quality.
I actually like it more with the original sound. At least in English, where i can understand it :p (I hate seeing the time lag between voice-over voice and mouth movement of the actor in a show or movie^^)

I also think we should stop dubbing movies. In the Netherlands the financial benefit is not great enough and as a result they are much better at English than us Germans. In fact you can live in Amsterdam for 10 years and it's still not necessary to learn Dutch.

What I really hate, is when the speaker has a voice that doesn't really fit to the person, is just plain stupid or, worst of all, when you know the voice from a different actor.

You mean like Fran Drescher in The Nanny?

It should be against the law to dub comedy. Comedy is seldom funny when translated.

Well, other than it's a satire, he is saying that because he has no respect for NFs. He thinks F is inferior to T.

I've lurked on many NT forums whose members apparently consider all Fs basically brain dead. It's a very immature point of view.

I always find myself confused as to why would someone post something(in any context)that could be seen as or is mean and disrespectful.

This guy praises ENTPs as a group, a generalization. Therefor, it would be fair to critique the author as a stereotypical ENTP. The stereotype includes, wordplay, pushing the envelope, self-patronizing, testing reactions, reasoning with conscious over anything fowl, and of course Internet style satire.

Now, if he is following ENTP tradition, he believes what he is writing, but he is playing on the words to the point to stir a reaction in others. Also, if confronted by this, the likely response would be beating around the bush, ignoring the fact or some other play on words or conscious values.

If it is satire, he did a very poor job of it. I didn't find any of it funny. I have read better Internet style based satire, such as Maddox. There is a grain of truth in a lot of what Maddox says. This guy, is just writing fluff.

[Edit] When I have someone push something like this towards me, I typically ignore it until they have something truthful or valid to say. Otherwise they're just looking a tool or fodder, both of which I'd rather not be.

ENTPs are certainly fun to watch, as can be seen on that page, but no one is supreme. All MBTI functions are neutral, so anyone can be supreme in different ways, even those dastardly SJs figuratively "heiling Hitler".

I think I actually also do that from time to time. In arguments I also often put something in which does not support my point of view, just because I think it is important to consider.

It occurred to me last night that people, in particular some of our NF friends here , might be put off by the INTP's reactions to article. If this is so, please don't think we in any way agree with this asshole. It's just that we are being objective about it (I assume I am speakin for everyone here).

Someone who is as brash as he is discredits himself with his own words. This person sounds like the person responsible for the www.thepopularlife.com website. This person (or persons) is just another asshole on the internet. I could be wrong about this, but I don't think he will have much of an impact on other people's behavior, so I don't think anyone should worry about it. The guy has no power to do anything about what he says he believes in. He has no abolity to force his will onto others. Whatever you think of him, please don't think that all INTP's are assholes because we have treated his behavior rather lightly. I think I speak for everybody in regaurds to this matter, if I don't please forgive me for putting words into your mouths .

As for the feeling types, especially the NF's who were ridiculed by this guy, let me tell you that I appreciate you. It is nice to have a bit of warmth here (and elsewhere).

As for making jokes about the other types I will admit that I am guilty of that from time to time. I do it to blow off steam. I am constantly banging heads (sometimes very hard) with SJ's and sometimes a few SP's. I hate company policy, and I hate it when I have to mindlessy follow it or get fired. It makes me feel like I need to start a revolution or something. I hate it when people try to impose anything on me.

Another thing people try to impose on me are their expectations of me as a female. It is "I am female theirfore I must be a feeling type" (that is their steriotypical definition of a feeling type). At parties I am expected to join in the with the other women who are grouped together for an "estragen fest" where they talk about their relationships, their personal female biological problems, and of course hair and make up. The former two things are personal things I don't feel comfortable hearing about (much less discussing) and the latter things I just don't care about. when this happens I prefer to be with the men, but usually they are busy somewhere having a testosterone fest. It's hard to fit in. It's not always this bad but a lot of time things can get that bad. At church, bible studies are sex segregated, so I'm stuck in a room with more people who expect me to talk about things I don't want to talk about. At least at the last bible study there was some sort of thinking type who didn't join in the estragen fest. She actually talked about her work and things like that. Anyway, the point is that I need to blow off steam somewhere. I apologize if any of my comments have hurt anyone.

By the way I am not saying that all feeling types behave that way. I know for a fact that they don't ( this is somewhat off topic but it would be interesting to see how many actually do, as opposed to those who don't behave that way). I also understand the concept of individual differences. I am just discribing the sort of steriotypical behavior expectations that people try to impose on me.

Don't worry I don't think you've offended anyone(at least I wasn't offended).I can relate to much of what you've said, because even though I'm an F I'm not exactly an embodiment of femininity(have been called a tomboy quite a few times),and that "female talk" is more often that not annoying to me as well(especially when the gossiping starts...).Feeling the need to revolt is very familiar to me and the line I often use:"You can't impose your beliefs and systems to me" has recently became like a mantra to me.

It's just that I always pay attention not to hurt people's feelings, and I still can't get used to the fact that some people don't do that even though I can understand them.It just doesn't sit well with me.Of course sometimes the situation will require an approach like that, and that's alright,as long as someone doesn't aim to hurt on purpose.

That's not funny. Most ENTPs I know are much funnier than that. I don't know whether he actually believes it, but I didn't think so. Fake-bragging tends to be part of the humour (but not putting others down). I do it all the time, but I always think people know I'm joking.

edit: I just reread it. I didn't think the humour was intelligent enough to be funny. I'd say that guy's not too smart.

Huh... I'm an INFP... I thought it was funny. But maybe I'm just stupid. :P

I tend to appreciate "stupid people humor" as well as good, intelligent humor.

I don't know, to me the air of teasing seemed quite obvious... I didn't think it was necessarily to "provoke a response" per se, I thought it was more just to make the other types roll their eyes, and go "Oh, yeah, that's so funny."

That over-the-top bravado thing is how a lot of my friends joke around quite often, and it's more designed to make you laugh at the person than it is to make you laugh at what they're actually saying. What do I mean?

Well, using this example... this person is an ENTP. This means that they are probably a relatively rational person. Most of the statements they make are totally irrational, and in a very exaggerated way. Take this statement: "If you're a good person who can think rationally - you're an NT-Rational. If you're a loser, or a fat person, or someone who cries all the time, you're in one of those other categories." A fat person? That's ridiculous, how could that be correlated with type? If you're a "good" person? That is a totally subjective description, coming from a self-proclaimed objective person. It's basically them making themself sound like an idiot on purpose to make you laugh, and in a manner that is so exaggerated that they're hoping you'll figure out that they're not actually that stupid or ridiculous.

As to the generalizations made... well, they are just that-- generalizations. They are not supposed to be totally accurate. And it's irrefutable that some NFs really are crybabies (even with mud for brains). Similarly, there are some SJs who are mindless zombies, following authorities without question. Same for SPs. And guess what? There really are some ENTPs who are way cool, smart, funny, awesome, and etc. It's just not all of them. But we know that, and that's what [is supposed to] make it funny. Simply the fact that he (or she) is grouping all those people into huge groups with condescending and ludicrous descriptions is totally un-objective, to the point where it's humorous (or is supposed to be).

If you don't appreciate this specific person's sense of humor, that is totally fine-- that's why there are so many different types of humor out there! Just keep in mind that he probably didn't really mean it, and if he was serious, he's clearly an idiot who shouldn't be taken seriously.

It is satire, I think. I doubt anyone would seriously hold all of this beliefs. Even if the article insults INTPS, why should you be offended? You are an INTP, yes, but you are also an individual, thus the generalizations of the INTP may not apply to you.

You're becoming frustrated with its lack of logical correctness? Poor factual accuracy? What reason? If you took the INTP criticisms personally, maybe you think they are true regarding you, which would humor me. Perhaps you were simply displayed that they were insulting a notion which you associated yourself with.

[Do not attack me for the preposition at the end of sentence, precise INTPs.]

I don't see this, ENTP just seems normal to me, I actually found the INTP more attractive and "wanted" to be that, but keep realizing I wasn't that subtle. To me INTPs are interesting to interact with since they actually listen to me and know what I am talking about, but I have meet one INTP. And it makes me sad this website doesn't open for me, must not be up anymore. Odd since when I type ENTP in google this thread is the number one link.
But I do agree NTs seem cooler in the descriptions, but I am sure the SFs would think they sound the best and the STs the same, etc. I think each type idolizes their form of thinking, it is familiar to them so it is inheritably superior.

In my opinion, the descriptions presented in Gifts Differing by Isabel and Peter Myers actually presents an F over T bias. This came across so strongly for me that I immediately suspected that each of Katharine Briggs, Isabel Myers, and Peter Myers must have been F types. I was correct. Author bias is hard to overcome when writing about types, it seems. In their favor, I could tell that they were certainly trying very hard to be objective. It just didn't come out that way in my eyes. Despite the bias, I still find it to be a great book on MBTI.

I have noticed something and am wondering something, about half the ENTP people on the personalitycafe are idiots, they spend their time on there gloating about how they are great and everyone else are stupid... while I find some who are mature, but those are rarer. The ones I called idiots, I acted like that when I was in grade school and middle school, but in high school I got older, and I guess I matured in a way. Guess I learned to use my Ti. I want to know, are most ENTPs you meet like this type of immature child that thinks they are superior? I actaully thought this was how ENTJs were, but apparently it is ENTPs... sigh. Or is this common for any peronality type, to have most of the inhabitants of the types to be completely immature and completely :storks:.

I guess it is annoying to hear people talk for 50 pages about how smart they think they are because of their dominate Ne may come up with stuff at random times, big deal, that wont me a damn thing if they don't learn to use the Ti to understand the Ne, because then their brilliant insight will have amounted to guess what NOTHING.

Ok now I have gotten that out of myself, other than the endless bragging like children, NTPs have very similiar habits. In my opinion, there is no greater personality, each has significant weaknesses that almost out weigh the strengths if not kept in check. Except for ISFJ, I just can't understand that personality at all, no offense to anyone, this is not demening at all, just stating my inablity to understand them so I can't place them in the above point.

I must say, I thoroughly enjoy being talked about.:elephant: I did that site about 2001, as part of my general goal of being a Big Internet Jerk. Greymatter, up there, described it best, in my opinion.

To people who got all bent out of shape about it:
1. It starts with a picture of Thomas Jefferson.
2. It is on GEOCITIES.
3. It is illustrated with Microsoft Paint drawings.
4. Most of the analysis is actually wrong on there.
5. It is on the INTERNET.:storks:

The stuff on INTPs is completely whacked-out, though, because the only person I knew at the time that typed as an INTP was actually an ENFJ who wanted to be an INTP. I've since met a few honest-to-goodness INTP-types, and the description there doesn't really cover them much.

Re: Dark's complaint about ENTPs. I have never lasted on an 'entp' forum for more than 2 posts. The reason is the same reason some of the people on here are acting like they are: People get the type they want not the type that's an accurate representation of their attitudes. ENTP has a very attractive type description to a lot of people, so they convince themselves that it's what they are - then they start a forum, make a bunch of rules, and generally scare off actually ENTPs by shouting them down. For example, the cranky d00d Yozuki up there, whose posts seem to be best read using the voice of Sam the Eagle. He's clearly using some kind of extraverted thinking there. Throw in a few 'PERIODs' a the end of lines, man.

I do enjoy the NF's reaction to it. They, like the fellow on this thread, even descend to meta-crybaby status. They are argumentative crybabies about being called argumentative crybabies. :king-twitter:
