Do you have your driver's license? When did you get it?

Or are you thinking about getting one?

I think most INTP's didn't get it when they were allowed.

I got my learners a year and a half later. Even when I got it, I didn't learn how to drive until another 8 months later. But I like to drive now

^I believe that one was centered around how many tries till success in getting license.

@OP.

Driving. The Freedom to travel at greater distances is appealing. I prefer the passenger though. The activity is...repetitive and mundane.

What an odd first post .

Anyway, I got mine when I was 16 on my first try. I honestly like driving as long as I'm not stuck in traffic or it's not too long of a drive... can't sit still for that long. Otherwise, it feels... free.

I didn't learn driving until I was 22... though now I love it. Whenever I need to clear my head I just head out for a long drive and just drive around randomly. I guess this probably wont work if there was a lot of traffic, thankfully where I live traffic is not a problem. I don't mind the driving part, I've gotten used to it that it doesn't even register...

Otherwise, it feels... free.
That pretty much describes how I feel...

YAH THAT WAS MY THREAD <--- just got swindled *sigh*

ANYWHO BACK ON TOPIC: I got my license when i was 18 and got it on my 4th try :D. I prefer to be driven as opposed to driving because you get to take in all the scenery while other people do your bidding :p

I really dislike driving. I got my permit when I was around 16-17, but I didn't get my license until around 20. I relied on friends, family and public transportation as long as I could. Unfortunately public transportation sucks, and there are some genuinely mean spirited bus drivers out there.

Does being a bus driver really suck that bad (assuming you don't dislike driving as I do)?

i've always wanted to take public transportation here in the US, but i've heard bad stories about it :slashnew:.

Relying on friends to drive you around is TOTALLY awsome though :p

I got some lessons for my 18th birthday (didn't want any"thing") but went to uni before taking a test. Had some more in the summer when I was 20, took a test and knew I could (and should) have passed and that was enough for another 3 years. A friends Uncle was starting up on his own and there was rumour the test was going to get harder so I started again and passed in January at 24 and haven't driven since.

It's not that I don't like driving but it's not worth getting a car when I have everything I need in easy walking distance (I walk fast and enjoy it) including a train station. I doubt I take more than 10 trips needing a car a year...

As to freedom I'd rather not have my mind elsewhere while in charge of something capable of killing man, beast or myself, and driving is monotonous enough my mind would definitely wander!

When I drive with someone in the car, I make so many mistakes it's embarrassing. I always give people my full attention when listening, but this isn't so good when driving. But when I drive alone, get really absorbed into the music I'm listening to.

Whether driving or in the passenger seat, who hates being stuck in traffic? Not because you care about where you're supposed to go or that you might be late or something normal. But because you're just sitting still without anything moving around you to look at?

I got mine at around 20, (I'm 24), and even then I didn't have a car till about 22. I milked rides out of my friends far longer than I care to admit. Now I kind of feel like I owe them :slashnew:

That's exactly why I bought my own car, haha.

Seriously, I love being independent in transportation, driving alone is actually kind of therapeutic for me.

being driven > having to drive imo. Isn't that why people have chauffeurs?

Well I do agree that being driven is better (With the exception of the times when I want to stay out all night partying, and the driver wants to go to sleep early.)

However, the feeling of dependence and that I am burdening someone is worse than having to drive.

I drive quite a bit, at least an hour every day due to commute. I learned when I was 16, and received my license the following year. I don't live in a compact city, so it's really a necessity for me. I tend to feel trapped when I don't have my car. Whenever I'm out with friends, I always drive. In fact I get somewhat nervous when I'm driven by other people.

I've garnered a bit of a reputation, as I tend to toy with my passengers. ;)

Really though, few things can compare to flying down an old winding road in the early morning hours, singing ones heart out. :o

Totally agreed...

I am not very comfortable when being driven around by people. Particularly due to the feeling of dependence...

I think most INTP's didn't get it when they were allowed.

I got my permit short after I turned 18, haven't had trained not even once since then ..it's been 2.5 years
but it's only because it's not easy finding a trainer, and I got bored after searching for a while
as for transportations, I don't go out much, take the bus to uni and drive with others when necessary

I got mine when I was 18, and have been driving since. Though I have come to dislike cars more and more, avoiding them unless I have to drive.

I used to have work which included driving a lot, and I agree with Adymus that it is very enjoyable in some way, to drive alone, it can really help your thinking, and driving is excellent for pacifying restless energy when you need to talk with someone.

Though I would prefer it if I could have a more efficient vehicle, such as a Tesla Roadster or something like that. ;P Purely for the ethical reasons concerning over-consumption and so on.

I was 18 years and 8 months. I really like driving while listening to music. I'm actually in the process of getting a subwoofer. I'm not too fond of others hearing my music, so I'll probably turn it down every time I see someone >_>

I always get car sickness when driven. Don't like.

Meh, 18, no license, no permit. what would be the point?

Now on the other-hand, If I felt I could afford to buy my own car, and competent enough to customize it, that would be sweet. Would want to add speakers, HUD, and smuggling compartments.

However, I'd rather get a Private pilots licence. Who wants to drive when you can fly?

You should celebrate my existence then. Only metal in it's purest form is allowed in my presence :cat:

I want to, but it's so expensive D: Why oh why will it cost so much?!

cost of a car or license? or insurance?

Only 1,3 are expensive. it costs like $10 to get your license here in Cali.

licenses are cheap, but lessons and tests are expensive. Then when you start driving properly on top of the cost of a car and petrol, you get monetarily raped by insurance and car tax.

Although I got my permit when I was 16, I didn't get my license until several months ago (I'm 22). I didn't really have a need to drive since I always had a ride when I needed it and everything was within walking distance at college. I finally decided to get it over with and I'm glad I did.

I got my G1 (learners permit, I guess - must drive with another driver during daylight or alcohol) the day I turned 16. I live in the sticks and to get around I need a car. I'm tired of forcing my parents to drive me everywhere.

Afterwards, I took driver's ed and around eight months later (soonest date) I got my G2 (drive alone but restrictions ie no alcohol).

I can get my G (full shebang) now, have been able to for about a month, but a) I'm too lazy b) need to relearn how to parallel park c) worried I'll fail d) content with a G2

I got my permit at 16, then my junior license. I really did want to drive.

My eldest kid just turned 15, an INTP... and he shows total apathy toward driving. He just doesn't seem to care either way. (I think his ESFP brother will be a different story.)

I got my permit at 15, drove maybe twice, got it taken away due to absences until now I'm 18 and I still haven't gone back to get it again. I can get my license two weeks after having a permit again (I've been told I don't need one for anything but learning)

I'm 18 and 6 months and still haven't gotten it. My friends like driving me though so it's all good.
