This a thread created, in case we get banned from PERC and for those who havent been banned from PERC. Things are very strict there, so I thought we should continue our discussion here.

You are right, (although technically you are half left) this is a backup backup. We in the world of ENTP see it as an evolution, unless you don't believe Darwin.
You posted something on another site that I liked, then the thread was taken down - I'm not saying it was your fault , you said something to the effect that forums self select. People go to forums and if they like the feel of the site they stay, if not all that's left is a vapor trail.
We had one particularly nasty personality who scared away weak people. The people who stayed were the strong people. It was fun being around bright intuitive people who had strong views and could back them up.
There were conflicts, but words don't really do any physical damage, so ...
But, it kept the numbers down for years. That kept the revenue stream down, and when the first person, maybe ever, was banned, it was more trouble than it was worth for the proprietor, so he hit the silk.

Yup, that has definitely been my experience. I remember which thread was taken down too, it was rather a bummer as some of the convo there was actually interesting. Oh well.

Yup, that is the main problem with it. When the stronger personalities dominate the forum, you have a smaller subgroup of people who can thrive within / desire to remain within that environment. If that's the kind of forum one wants, and the finances are there to maintain it, that is all well and good. There are opportunities for niche markets. Unfortunately, if your niche becomes TOO niche, it might not be self-sustaining.

That just seems so bizarre to me... shutting things down, I mean. And that there was so little discipline to begin with.

It leads me to think the nasty/aggressive people were not allowed to run free because of the proprietor's views on speech, but more because the proprieter just did not feel like dealing with imposing and enforcing limits... so as soon as it become too dramatic a headache to deal with... curtain time!

Anyone who has had to oversee any group, or even just be part of a family and/or raise kids should be aware that there will be some degree of drama involved. People always complicate things.

Oh yeah, posts occasionally get caught by the spam filtering fairies. Certain links, sometimes writing website addresses like .com or so, will trigger it. The intricate complexities of the fairies' workings, even the wisest cannot tell.

OK, I have taken the plunge!

I absolutely refused to do as I was told and register at perC. Not that I have anything against the place, just that I am not going to follow the directions of a hacker!!

I have no more knowledge of the situation than the rest of you - but I would put money on it that the site was NOT closed by the admin. He had just gone to the effort of changing to a new provider or server or something and was all happy. Plus, if it was the admin that closed it - I would be pretty sure he would not have written what was written and certainly not redirected everyone to PerC, and certainly not have changed the tab to read "TaTa".

Now, that is all I am going to say on the subject - wouldn't want to start making any accusations based and trigger a "slander" case.

I don't know him and have never communicated with him. Spiral knows him, he didn't say anything at all though did he? But if it was as I suspect - he would not be able to say anything at all.

None of us know what happened, so it is all conjecture anyway.

I just plan to periodically check back and see if anything changes. Until then it is all

We were a neighborhood. This site is a small town. Per/c is a big city.
These people have welcomed us and come out to play. They are like us in many ways including their sense of humor.
I have a real good friend IRL who is INTP. Seems we're compatable, and the differences might bring some really good conversations.

Oh, OK. Pretty poor form. But really, there is only one cause of all the hassles starting - no? Sadly he effectively got his way by wreaking havoc. And that caused an avalanche.

I don't know if it is an ENTP thing (cause I am not 100% sure I am) but I tend to go to extreme lengths to prove someone wrong. I don't think I could have allowed the forum to die after someone claimed they killed it - just so they wouldn't have the smug satisfaction of being right. But then again, sometimes it is not worth it.

I advise my fellow refugees to let the drama that happened, go. No one enjoyed any of it, it's over, and it seems like everyone is ready to move on.

Each person had a different experience with the situation and a different range of knowledge. I also observed a number of false rumors. Please, don't talk about what you don't know.

Shortly before the site was taken offline a user posted information about defamation law. They said that they were posting for someone else, unnamed. Defamation is when you write false information about someone, damaging their reputation. I don't think any of us need to worry about that but I care about you people and it would sadden me if any of you were hassled with something of that sort. So, please, just let it go. There's more important things in our lives.
