2 years ago, I took a test that pegged me as an INTJ. After extensive research and learning gigantic amounts on MBTI and just sociology and psychology in general, I have concluded that I am an INTP.

Disagreeing with myself. Never knowing for sure. Nihilistic cessation. Addiction to paradoxes. The loneliness (when I'm honest with myself). Incredible self-awareness that makes me doubt the authenticity of everything I say and do. The unfortunate need for something as irrational as love. Self evaluations.

I plan on attending tech school to learn CNC machining, and then later to college. While in college, I'd want to study something practical like mathematics or engineering, not liberal arts, philosophy, Women's/Ethnic studies, or my personal favorite, Social Justice and Peace Studies. If I already had a good paying job, I'd probably study economics or political science. I don't consider myself a very idealistic person, I try to focus more on practical ideas to change the world.

I was also considering joining the air force. I know that the military isn't the best place for NTP types, but it would give me some great rhetorical leverage later in life, and I certainly think it would be something I could be proud of. I was raised in a very conservative family, I have many family members who are/were in the military and I still hold a lot of right-wing sentiments, though not necessarily beliefs.

Where to begin? I think that being an INTP is more of an affliction. I wish (and have tried) to change the way that I am. But I guess one cannot change their own nature. I would say the hardest thing is always being the square peg in the round hole. Always being dissatisfied with whatever I have and always sabotaging myself.

Hardest thing about being INTP?

I always took the approach that when things really suck it's because I, as an individual, was responsible somehow, usually by a past action, negligence, or that there is something screwed up with who I am/my personality that was specific to me. It never occurred to me to blame the umbrella INTP classification.

For me, it's the constantly changing interests and the boredom. It's really bad, too, when you end up befriending a person and not two months later you already want to break it off because they bore you.

I am in the military and after going to the doctor about a sore back, the doctor mentioned chronic back pain being linked with depression and sent me to see a shrink.

After about 10hrs of testing and a few days of talking to the shrink, he said I was not depressed at all. Rather my trade was not satisfying any of the needs of my personality which was INTP. There is much more to this story however I believe this is enough to satisfy the completion of this question.

Forget how I got interested in it, but once I did I set out on a quest nail down exactly what my type was, what that meant, etc. After MBTI, I looked into Socionics and found that's it's way cooler/more accurate (at least for me)

Hardest thing about being INTP? I really want to do things that are highly impractical. Like taking a 5 year vow of silence or walking/wandering the world like a vagabond for a decade or being a forever full time student. But adults without wealth simply can't do those things. Also, I have MS now, so there's a whole new level of practical that will be confining me as the years go on.

Hardest thing about being INTP? Trying to being certain about if you are one or not. Also people misunderstanding you or rather not even bothering to listen your reasonings. Being into things not many people in your age cares about so not being able to 'socialize' much even if you do try. Emotions. That goddamn process of emotions and attempts to trying rationalize and understand them is going to be my death.

probably junior or senior year of high school in one of my psychology courses, but I truly learned/became interested in my type nearly two years ago when a friend of mine (also an INTP) gave myself and a group of friends a short MBTI test at a party. Hello. I'm a ISTJ, I came to this forum because I don't understand you and think you are weird.

I'm happily married to my first love and have three children. On the weekends I go motorbike riding and work on my car. I also like shooting.

Something I've noticed is that you don't have a sports and recreation sub-forum. I read through all the forum rules and would like to petition the administrators to add this forum.

Also something else I find concerning a lot of the members seem to be breaking the rules and nobody is doing anything about it. Particularly not following formatting properly and multiple posts introducing themselves (that gopher fellow) Apart from absurdity. He seems like a fine upstanding man.

Now since I am old and wise and my wisdom is great feel free to ask me questions. (but not in this thread obviously that would be breaking the rules)
