My aunt is a psychologist at a pretty well know medical school in the New England area, and when I was about 17 I had a lot of concerns I might have a mental illness. Quick backstory: My father is bipolar/manic depressive and his entire life he's struggled to deal with it (he's currently in federal prison). He didn't raise me, my step father did, but I always struggled in school and it made me wonder if I was bipolar too. Because I recognize my father as being very intelligent, albeit crazy, I just was pretty convinced my problems were genetic.

Anyway, at the time I decided to reach out to my aunt and get her opinion. I was hesitant, but I figured she could help since I knew she was an internationally recognized expert on the mental health issues of young adults. after reading her books, I felt like she would be a helpful resource. We had a lot of conversations and a few visits, and eventually she told me she doesn't think I'm bipolar and she used the word "introverted thinker" at one point during her explanation for why my thoughts were so consuming. This sorta propelled me into finding out what that might mean and led me to MBTI which led me to Carl Jung which led me to determining I'm INTP.

It took me a while to figure out I was an INFJ. For a start, the J/P dichotomy of the MBTI is bullshit when dealing with introverts, so that threw me off a bit; I was testing as INFP, even though I suspected that could not be the case. Fi isn't me.

I eventually consulted a professional who went through a multi-stage type clarification with me, culminating in a Skype chat. It took them all of a nanosecond to say "Yeah, you're an INFJ dude - here's why".

My uncle and me are very similar. We always discuss radical theories, and we always piss the rest of the family off for not being social and "normal" at family gatherings. We figured there had to be more people like us out there, so we started reading about personality types. INTP was the most likely fit for both of us. I joined a couple of facebook groups and found very similar people for the first time in my life, who identified as INTPs. I checked out the MBTI a little more and now I am pretty convinced that I have to be either mentally deranged, or an INTP.

I had one recently but we discovered after a while that we were too incompatible. We did the reasonable thing and stopped, and I am still stabilising myself after that. She made me learn a lot about myself and about love. How do I make a living?

I work in telemarketing, and I've somehow managed to be good at it despite hating it. I guess it's more of a hate-love relationsship than pure hate really. It requires me to play on my weak sides, making them stronger.

Mysteries and weird theories. Anything that is not mundane, simple and boring.

Am I a nerd?

That depends on which side of me I'm showing. I am capable of being a pretty good chameleon when neccesary, but I prefer my computer and video games to people. I've made most people at my workplace think I'm crazy but nice, so they leave me pretty much alone when I need some "me" time.

I took some online tests. The first ( 2 years ago) said INFJ, then another that said INTJ, and I think a third said something else. The point is that I find the tests inaccurate and inconsistent. But reading the description of all the types i definitely am an INTP: introverted, oblivious, logical, absent-minded, indecisive. So I'm independently classifying myself as one. If you don't like it, fight me.
