Heh, well if it puts you at ease even a little I can relate. All too well - compliments are seen as clever insults or sarcasm, etc. I'm unsure if this is completely due to environmental reasons, however, perhaps it is simply the unique combination of cognitive functions that makes an INTP suspicious of the intents of others with regard to emotions. You are defensive, as well? Or you simply avoid what may be a threat in disguise?
Also, I've been told many times that I am nice, etc. and haven't quite figured out why which should further ease your mind about deception.
Unless, of course, I'm lying about the above and though such a game might be interesting to play I never did have much patience for it, nor is my mind programmed to use its imagination much in that direction. I'd rather focus on other things.
