In no particular order, here are ten albums which I love. I am not going to say that they are objectively my top ten favorite albums because I don't really have favorites per se. Though there are perhaps some albums that I have spent more time listening to than the ones listed below, the ones listed take precedence because they have stood the test of time and are as good now as they were then.

1) Beatles--White Album: I am not really sure why I picked the White Album over any other on this list. I almost picked Anthology 3, but I have not been able to listen to it in years because I lost it. The third anthology was a huge influence on me in high school, and one of my first introduction to the beatles. I love the rawness of it. However, the white album is also great, and personally I think it really captures the uniqueness and creative heights of the beatles.

2) Brand New--The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me: It was hard to choose between this and deja entendu, but I think ultimately tDaGaRIM is a better and more mature album, and provides proof that brand new deserves to be considered as something greater than the "emo" genre from which brand new got its start.

3) Nirvana--Un-Plugged in New York: Ok, I admit, I was not a big Nirvana fan back in the day. However, even back when it first came out, I was enamoured with this album, even if some "true" Nirvana fans generally dismiss it.

4) Jewel -- Pieces of You: What can I say? I am not a big Jewel fan in general, but I am a sucker for anything acoustic.

5) Elliott Smith--???: I am struggling to pick any one album, even though I am certain I want a Smith album on this list. Hmmmm. Definitely not Figure 8. and probably not XO, even though that is a great album. Ultimately, I think I could pick any of three albums: Self Titled, Either/Or, and From a Basement on a Hill.

6) Josh Ritter--The Animal Years: This is a great album, plain and simple.

7) Modest Mouse -- The Moon and Antartica: Modest Mouse, along with Bright Eyes, really changed the way I looked at music. I never really grew up with the opportunity to discover indie music, and so when I discovered MM and Bright Eyes (both at aproximately the same time, which is why I associate the two) I realized there was a whole new musical world out there waiting to be discovered.

8) Third Eye Blind--Self Titled: Just a great album. As good now as it was then. I actually listened to this album on repeat today for about 6 or 7 hours straight on my ipod as I went about my day, and I never got sick of it, which for me is saying a lot.

9) Pink Floyd--DSotM: I listened to this album for 6 straight months in high school. Just ask my sister, we would listen to it everyday on the way to school and it drove her crazy (though thankfully she now more fully appreciates the album). And hey, I never smoked pot in highschool, so don't buy into all the hype. This album is great no matter your current state of being. Though if you get the chance . . .

10) Weezer--Blue Album: This is one of the first albums that I was really obsessed with. I first bought this album aproximately 12 or 13 years ago, but the thing is I can still listen to it today from start to finish and truly enjoy it. I might even enjoy it more now than I did when I first heard it, a true rarity for me. This album represents what pop music ought to be.

11) Ryan Adams--Heartbreaker: OK, this album is just too good not to be on the list. I am kinda surprised i didn't include it in the first place. I don't really know what to say, except i might write a book someday inspired by Oh My Sweet Carolina. One of my favorite songs ever.

Contenders:

Bright Eyes: Fevers and Mirrors
Jason Mraz: Waiting for my Rocket to Come
Postal Service: Such Great Heights
AC/DC: Double Live
Eagles: Hell Freezes Over
Garden State Soundtrack
Sublime: Self Titled
CCR: Chronicles Vol. 1

Beyond amazing. Possibly better than all the Maiden records.

Its a concept album related to the works of Willam Blake. The music has a lot of variety, some are maidenesq (The Tower) others are almost thrash (killing floor). Has a lot of quiet interludes as well. Adrian Smith is on it as well. By the fifth song i was basically jumping up and down and forced my wife to listen to it. We have two copies now so we dont fight.

Its a very metalish record. Soaring vocals, dual guitars, a lot of orchestration.

but youtube is free and you can probably hear a few songs, Jerusalem is one of the lighter songs. Obviously its just the poem with a melody. I am guessing probably not your cup of tea but maybe. Try nick drake

Well I'll tell you a few things:

I really didn't like Britney's new album at all (except for two or three songs)

And I like the Ting Tings' album most definitely NOT for their lyrics, but because their songs are so god damn catchy, it's brilliant.

You also have to remember that I'm a blonde girl and I lived in a rich-bitch valley in California for most of my life, so I pretty much grew up listening to Britney.

Yet I also grew up listening to Depeche Mode, which balances all the pop out. Although DM is INFINITE times better than Britney.

That's right. INFINITE.

Yes it is very catchy.

Your opinion is not the final truth about a subject. If you're unwise enough to think so, then GTFO of an INTP forum, please.

Thank you :)

Please don't be upset by my craziness. I tend to view the world through reversed perspectives on objective and subjective. With music I calculate the music on mental scale factoring in lyrics, chord structure, time changes / synchopation, etc. So of course i treat my opinion as the final truth.

Anyway I was joking, no i dont like the song in question; but why would I divulge deeply personal medical information except for humor sake. It was a humiliating incident.

I'd contribute to this thread, but I don't have cool tastes like most of the people here. Oh well whatthefuck, in no order:

1. Sting- The Soul Cages
2. Alice in Chains- Jar of Flies
3. Rush- A Farewell to Kings
4. Live- Throwing Copper
5. Dave Matthews Band- Before These Crowded Streets
6. The Police- Synchronicity
7. Tool- Aenima
8. Dire Straits- Brothers in Arms
9. Live- The Distance to Here
10. Dave Matthews Band- Busted Stuff

Yes I am a firm believer that nearly all good rock music was produced in the '90s. I've just about abandoned the rock genre since 2001.

If I have to choose I would pick these 10:

1. mythes et legendes- Magma
2. the boatman's call- Nick Cave
3. tripper- Efterklang
4. unplugged in n.y.- Nirvana
5. 55- 12- Gregor Samsa

8. med sud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust- Sigur Ros
9. fisherman's women- Emiliana Torrini
10. dummy - Portishead

But, as I'm addicted to music, I could name 20 more musicians that I adore. So, also: silver mt. zion, tom waits, leonard cohen, bauhaus, dead can dance, nick drake, cocrosie, bjork, pink floyd, mia doi todd, lots of jazz, lots of trip hop..

Re: Top 10 Favourite albums

This is difficult, but it'd be something like this:

1. Devin Townsend - Terria

2. Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors

3. King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King

4. Dream Theater - Images & Words

5. Love - Forever Changes

6. Voivod - Dimension Hatröss

7. Sigh - Imaginary Sonicscape

8. Ulver - Perdition City

9. Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

10. Nobuo Uematsu - Final Fantasy VII OST

Awesome.

Mine (I can only pick TEN??):

1. Opeth - Ghost Reveries
2. Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
3. Devin Townsend - Terria (or Ocean Machine)
4. Ulver - Perdition City
5. Opeth - Still Life or Blackwater Park (or Deliverance)
6. Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun (or Deadwing)
7. Anathema - A Fine Day to Exit
8. The Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium
9. Pink Floyd - Meddle (or Wish You Were Here)
10. Paatos - Timeloss

Honorable Mentions: King Crimson - Red, anything else by Opeth/Porcupine Tree/Ulver/Devin Townsend, Muse - Absolution and Origin of Symmetry, The Decemberists - Cast Aways and Cutouts or The Crane Wife, OSI .... geez I'll stop, I could go on all day.

EDIT: Vegard Pompey, have you listened to The Black Mages at all? It's a japanese prog-metal band that plays all Final Fantasy songs! (Nobuo Uematsu plays the keyboards for the band). It's kind of cheesy, but highly entertaining if you are really into FF music.

Warning - Green Day
Up! - Shania Twain
A Rush Of Blood To The Head - Coldplay
Amadeus Soundtrack
Nirvana - Nirvana
The Ramones (I have part of an anthology of theirs but the name of it is long and cumbersome)
Fallen - Evanescence

I love that album. It gets better every time I listen to it.

On another note, I think that Genesis is the most overrated band ever.

Seducer:

My favorite Genesis song is "Firth of Fifth," so I'm generally with you on Selling England. And I looove W&W as well - "Blood on the Rooftops" is amazing. But Trick has "Ripples" and above all "Entangled," while the self-titled was a fusion of pop and prog forms that still hasn't been replicated very well, something the band gets little credit for. There are few "Home by the Sea" songs anywhere.

I'm a Banksian first and foremost, so I like stuff from a lot of the eras.

Anthile,

Ecstatic to see another Frostie. One of my law professors turned me on to them, and I can't find much of anyone like them, particularly over the last few years.

I obviously don't think Genesis is overrated. :-D They were overexposed for a long while though, so I can see that being an obstacle to liking them. By the time I got into them, they had long since broken up and got no play anywhere, so they were in their underrated time of life. Bet nobody saw that coming in '86.

List threads suck, but I'll revise this for whatever reason:

Partially in order (first three are my three favourite albums of all time)

1. Devin Townsend - Terria (Magical and inexplicable. There are no words that can do it justice.)
2. Love - Forever Changes (Magical and inexplicable. There are no words that can do it justice.)
3. Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris (Magical and inexplicable. There are no words that can do it justice.)
4. Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts (Not perfect, but I value it especially highly because I love the existential lyrics)
5. Dream Theater - Images & Words (Flawed just like everything else they ever made, but still the most solid release of one of my all-time favourite bands)
6. Lifelover - Erotik (I wouldn't recommend this to anyone not familiar with the swedish language, but to anyone who is, it's one of the most depressing and devastating albums you'll ever hear)
7. Warning - Watching From A Distance (Another depressing masterpiece, but you won't need knowledge of swedish to appreciate it. Perhaps the most passionate vocals I have ever heard.)
8. The Axis of Perdition - Deleted Scenes From the Transition Hospital (I don't listen to this one often. It's the soundtrack to pain.)
9. Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors (Familiar with the concept of 'desert island' albums? This is my number one 'lost in space' album.)
10. In the Woods - Omnio (Can't think of much to say. Great atmosphere.)

5. Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? - of Montreal
