I've become more active over the past few days on this site and a few others and, while my mind is on fire and I feel very productive, I've hardly gotten anything done. I'm constantly checking forums for updates and researching things and reading up on various links provided and... well I'm hoping I can turn this into a periodical thing.

My mind is on fire. That's a good thing. But my measurable productivity has plummeted this week. I've literally accomplished nothing outside my head. Aside from maybe some relatively inconsequential networking...

The greater danger here is more often pseudo-intellectualism

but yes, all the interesting stuff can lead to procrastination/zero or little external productivity (despite the high internal/cognitive productivity), totally not wasted time tho :D

These are important questions. Think of the collective! Philosophy is important. This time is not wasted.

These are the dangers of giving in to the collective. I'm not sure it's dangers of intellectualism.

Likely it will go away and then you'll disappear then some day you'll just show up again. I think INTP tend to work is such waves of passion. If you want to call it that.

That sounds likely. I'll probably go back to learning C# with all my spare time while popping in periodically to see what's up, then suddenly a month or two later I'll spontaneously devote another straight week to the forum.

I'm pretty sure it's not wasted time. I remember a period on Google+ where I participated in a sort of project/discussion group that we all thought would lead to something great (sustainability, societal shifts, etc...) but it just faded away. Was an interesting learning experience though and some of the principals I gathered have stuck with me. I wonder if I'll ever get back in touch with those guys...

Again, I don't recall saying I wasted time. I'm an INT? and know the value of this sort of thing. It's just... I could have finished another chapter or two of my latest text book... Or maybe done something else productive. I guess I'm concerned with the greater philosophical implications of us ... eh, call us "enlightened" folks spending all our time in our heads and getting very little done. Who's gonna care in the end?

These are the dangers of giving in to the collective. I'm not sure it's dangers of intellectualism.

Intellectuals, especially INTP's, tend to get very little done despite their self-diagnosed brilliance. It's about balancing the internal realm with real-world achievement. The collective is a confusing term i this context. Are we now a collective? If so, let's mutually achieve something great.

To OP, you're just probably in a rut which is normal for us. Sometimes you just want to be laid back while sometimes you'll work so hard that you make ESTJ's blush.

Heeard that.

The stimulation of the mind is a drug, just like any other. You're checking a thread response, while your dirty clothes pile up.

But, when you are a certain personality, whether it be INTP, ENTP, or any of the other types that have a higher dietary requirement for stimulating conversation, internet forums are often, alas, the only places to be found.

That, is most certainly debatable. Philosophy without application is masturbation.

I concur.

Yeah... Like where I busted out excel automations at work during a slow period (with no prior experience in programming) while my co-workers browsed facebook... But I don't 'feel' in a rut. I feel on fire! It's just in my head right now... Maybe it's not such a bad thing and this thread is a good reassurance that it, too, will pass.
