I usually ask someone's gender at the beginning for the purpose of courtesy and hope of not offending the person at later dates. Seeing your reaction to this, however, I doubt this will be much of an issue.

I think it is because of window's um...sudden desire to fill the role of a sexual health teacher and trope's um...attraction to explain the concept of gender to a kid who knows exactly what they're talking about yet a bit amused and exasperated at the same time.

Yes. Thank you. I decided long ago that intro threads were not only boring but repetitive and so began to do what I could to have fun with them; derailing whenever the opportunity arose. There isn't much point in doing something that's been done hundreds, if not thousands, of times already on any given forum.
