My middle name is Joy. A great grandparent was born on Christmas and called Carol Joy. She started this whole sentimental thing by giving my grandmother her own middle name. So that's the super obvious in retrospect origin of my user name.

Badec was actually first discovered as the answers to a matching portion of a test. Yes, the answers were in that order. The name just stuck to me; suited me quite nicely. Like a suit, tailored specifically for me. In short, I just like it.

I like names that have multiple meanings. The first reason why I chose Grey matters was out of the irritation (almost exasperation) and frustration from being surrounded by mostly illogical and frivolous people, therefore I feel the need to point out that gray matter really does matter. Secondly I am going gray, with age comes wisdom and that matters also. Thirdly I don't believe that everything is or should be either black or white, gray matters also.

I picked "dark+matters" because I get flabbergasted when people get so desperate to avoid the deepest, darkest corners of the human psyche. I would think we'd want to explore every possible nook and cranny in its most minute detail so we can understand and prevent human suffering in the generations to follow. But I look out at most people, and they just seem... really, really okay to stay on the surface. I'd even say that most people crave a system in which they're told exactly what to do, and to not to go beyond it. This makes me want to punch a baby. I'm also developing an interest in astronomy and physics.

Actually, surprisingly, I played them out of order. I got the second one because my cousins whom I game with all the time convinced me to. It was tons of fun and led me to purchase the first!

Vladmirus is just simply a rather poor attempt of Latinising my pseudonym: Vladmir Gorgovich, I chose this name because of my interest in Russia and some philosophical awakenings I have undergone due to my studies. Vladmir is also one of my characters that I like to play during tight situations in my life. Gorgovich was the surname of a Chaser for the Chudley Cannons in Harry Potter.

I didn't pick my name, other people did. It's one of my nicknames IRL, given for my tendency to be sort of quiet and unassuming. No matter where I go, I always fall into the role of the stoic, nondescript, idiosyncratic background figure. I fit the introvert stereotype of the observer to a T. I have a few other nicknames, but none of them have anything to do with my personality, however funny they are.

Okay, this may be the first time I'll tell anyone Online why my name is the way it is.

Back then when I was 16-years-old, lasting for about a few years, I'd call myself Mr. R. Because the letter R is in my first name. I called my room "Mr. R Headquarters". And so that's what the "hq" shands for. Hence my username is now mrrhq, and it's pronounced as, "Mr. R H.Q."

I quite like it. At least it's a name that nobody online will ever bother to use, unless they want to troll me, fuck with me, and want have their asses reported by Site admins until they give me that account name. :)

Interesting to read about why people chose their usernames.

Mine is the combination of id (psyche) with kaiho meaning liberation in Japanese. It was the first cool idea I had while thinking of a username and I picked it. I'm assuming if a Japanese person wanted to combine the two it wouldn't have been done the way I chose to but I didn't have a Japanese person to consult.

I tried to find something original when subscribing to another forum years ago.

Thaught it would be cool to pick something related to precious stones. Randomly thaught opale ( opal ) . Still not perfect to me. The TV was on, and I heard a reporter talking about Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah... Opale... Opra... Oprale !

Bam. R incorporated, Oprale. Really random and usefull. Always avaliable wherever I go.

I'm so creative I just used my name. It contains an adequate number of characters and is easy for me to recognize. Yay functionality.

'Tristitia' is Latin for 'sadness'. I added the -n to make it seem more like a name, and more masculine.

I really wish I chose something else. I'm highly considering making a new account. Lamarque would be the name.

I couldn't really find a name to suit me, and so I just chose this out of random. "Groovy Taxi" does happen to be the vehicle that PJ drives in F-Zero GX. When I first unlocked the guy I was quite happy, as the mission required to do so was hard as hell, so I guess the name reminds me of my accomplishment. And 98 might be the year I was born (If you add 1900) I know really uncreative, but... not sure what my excuse is >.> Now I feel terrible... I must remake this account without the "98" to make it sound more original.

I was given this nickname by the starting Point Guard for my senior year high school basketball team. We were Physics class lab partners. He saw the word Technology on a piece of paper, crossed out the ch and put two F's in their place. Hence, Teffnology.Thanx BJax.

BTW my last name is Teff, aka the world's smallest grain and THE staple of the Ethiopian diet. Ever since I learned that I have wanted to go to Ethipoia and see if they treat me differently because of my last name.

My name is usually what I use online. It's my name in video games, primarily because I play a lot as the Spy in Team Fortress 2, and the correlation of Alias to the character's skill in disguise just fits. My real life name is in no way similar to the word Alias,

Because I'm more goth than is generally considered advisable. Also it expresses the twin halves of my soul: the lonely, introverted, shy, stick-to-the-shadows side, and the mystical, new agey, I'm-the-prophet-of-a-new-religion side.

I picked it when I was a little kid because I liked rain and thought it sounded cool, and I've used it for most online things I do since then, despite the fact that it's the title of a movie about an autistic person, which leads people to think I'm autistic. :p

I liked the way it sounded. This is how I've come up with online monikers for a while: sit at my screen and through free-association and connotation, sound out what I might like. I came up with these two words together in high school without knowing their exact definition, although vaguely (I could've probably used it in a sentence if I tried hard enough). I was pretty extraverted and popular as a kid (Elementary) but then got into gaming going into 6th grade and the amenities that are dangerously paired with it (I got chubby). Since then, my loner side has been more dominant. Anyway, I created this name on AIM early in highschool. Jr year of highschool I went through a growth spurt and lost the extra weight through running. Then I started to get attention from girls--this was awful for my vanity, although I kept it to myself--and the peripheral popularity from that. I had a pretty close, at least in proximity, group of friends that I stopped talking to after High school and became increasingly isolated. Long story, short: It's funny and/or tragic (depending on one's mood) the person I've come to be and its relation to how I used to intuit a representation of myself.

I grew up in the church and even though I was never able to figure out the whole blind faith thing, I did find an interest in some of the christian mythology. Specifically, The Fall of Lucifer and his angels. Azazel was one of those, associated with the scapegoat ritual, and the first part of my name is a variation of that. The second part of my name came about because a friend had the name Sunkiller, and I wanted a name with a similar descriptive flavor, but more suited to my personality.

Vicissitude: a change of circumstances or fortune, typically one that is unwelcome or unpleasant.

Over my life ive realized that time changes everything, change always wins in the end, no matter how hard we try to be stable or orderly.

Me and a girl i used to work with would write forgotten words and their definitions on a whiteboard daily. When we did this one it became my favorite word.

I always liked the del notation in vector calculus.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Del

I dont know how you could possibly like del, lol. Its my archenemy.

I followed the voices of the Gods into the great pyramid, navigating my way through all sorts of traps, each more difficult than the last, barely surviving each encounter. I reached the fabled blood altar, laid out my wrist as the voices commanded, and out of nowhere it slit itself, dribbling blood and unlocking the chamber of horrors and what would be my forum name. I walked into the chamber and found my golden fedora, and a book entitled "How to be a Gentleman", the men pictured in the book all sport a special facial hair style called a neckbeard, so I grew one, and had my name legally changed to Neckbeard Jones.
