You scroll down to the bottom of the screen and see stuff like this all the time:

Currently Active Users: 139 (45 members and 94 guests)

I just wonder who the heck all the lurkers are. Why are they here? Who are they? Do they have anything else to do? Are they secretly stalking us?

I'm scared. They're following me... <_< ... ... >_>

They're bots. Like the google webpage crawler and stuff like that.

This subject gets brought up with some regularity. There are some other threads around here ...somewhere... I think...

Noddy had some brilliant opinion on the matter, but now I can't remember what it was... or was he just the most paranoid?

Anyway - they can see nothing of what really matters. :D

Maybe they're all pscologists, studying us?

How do you think they get all that data on INTPs?

Or, they might just be people who are too lazy/shy to actually join?

It's like Dawn of the dead or Night of the living dead... don't remember where... these zombies were after human brains.... So now, these ninja bots (upgrade from zombies?:p ) are after our brains maybe?:)

Lol oddly enough, the only reason i joined this forum was because i read a few posts by Decaf and i was so impressed with the difference in the quality of people on this forum compared to such forums as INTPcentral, i had to join and read more.

At this point i would also like to pledge my undieing allegiance to Decaf... Its amazing how his posts leave nothing else to say on the topic most of the time LOL

I have to say, Decaf's posting was a very strong pull for me, too. I think you might want to let him out of the closet. ... In a while. ... After you find a stick or something to poke him with.

I come when I remember this place, and read whatever I missed since my last lurking visit.

I was wondering why in the world anyone would be interested in us...
It's really what you have to say that is (usually) interesting, not necessarily you.

Just as a side note... thanks to the encouragement I've received on this forum I'm moving ahead with my efforts to switch from a reliably mediocre career in chemistry toward a pipe dream of career in psychology/psychiatry. I just like this so much better, and the thought of doing it only after I get home from work has become distasteful. Thank you.

.... web crawlers eh? neat idea, the name is self explanitory, I never understood how google could link to forum pages with relavent content to your query...
Webcrawlers would REALLY help the government in NINETEENEIGHTYFOUR if they had the internet in that book.
1st thing they would do is hire the members of all INTP forums for their controlling positions,
Next.. well I don't know what they would do next... who's they?
the creepers?

I lurk because I lack the motivation to type a complete post, proof read it, worry about my punctuation, and then click the post button. Of course, having actually posted I know that I would soon become sucked into yet another internet community, albeit more sophisticated than many of the others. Also after posting it, I would worry about whether or not I came off as sounding intelligent or not, which is just a pain. That is why I lurk.

Maybe they just want to test the waters before they dive in.
