Who are You? *inside*

An Honest Question:

What would you look like if you were in the body that properly represented who you are on the inside?

This question might take some deep searching within to come up with the answer, but I believe it gives one a much clearer understanding of who they truly are. Nobody picks the body they are placed into, and often times our appearance doesn't do justice to who we truly are inwardly. Detaching oneself from anything external - age, race, gender, height, skin color and so on - and just focusing on the soul*, one may form quite a different picture of who they really are.

*I use the word "soul" subjectively. If you prefer "mind" then insert that instead. :)

Hmm. Whenever I think about this, I think I'd look like I do now except with narrower hips for some reason. I don't get how you can represent personality traits with physical traits, it puzzles me.

I'm glad you brought that up Jordan. True, there is indeed a gap between physical traits and spiritual traits which may make this question difficult to answer. I'm sorry if I've been giving some of you a hard time with all my visual threads lately...
I should probably stop... :o

But what I mean to ask can also be phrased: what "physical" traits would best describe your "spiritual" self metaphorically speaking? I'm very interested in seeing what you guys come up with :D

I first came across Craig Mullins back when I was playing the Marathon Trilogy, a series of FPS games written by Bungie before the whole Microsoft takeover. Anyway, Mullins did the in-game chapter screens and some other promo art for the games. You can see a bunch of it in his commercial gallery for Bungie (which also includes a Halo image or two).

Yeah, i went through the finished sketches section ;)
He makes nice images, i gotta say. Interesting effect is that from far or zoomed out they look as if with many details, though from nearer it iis very blurry ;)

Auburn, you make the most interesting threads! To be totally honest, I'd be an idealized version of what I already look like. I'd be everything I am but taller and more slender. It's not because I'm unhappy with my weight. I just think being taller and skinny would suit my personality if that makes any sense.

Nope. No way. Nada. Don't think so.

Your choices of images of others on here is from your unique perspective. Don't stop because of someone's criticism ...like moi:o.
Think of Pcasso. The multiple ways he painted women in his life. They were the same person but his relationship to them changed, as did his techniques. Many of his paintings of the same woman look totally different.

These are your impressions of others here and as such, are an individual artistic expression.
Don't stop or change.

Seconded.

Absolutely don't stop. More visuals!

(I'd contribute but can never find the perfect picture.)

I was actually intending on the visual to be explained in writing. Pictures work also, however one can be more specific with writing and perhaps better to capture those multiple facets - considering the difficulty of finding an adequate picture online. Please, don't feel obliged to use an image. LoR you can write it down if you can't find the proper picture. :)

btw- thank you Ermine, EB, and LoR for those comments. I sincerely appreciate them :)

I like this from Ogion

It does sort of capture something about me.

Everyone thinks I'm nice. But on the inside?

Despair, Destruction, Death and I are well acquainted.

Never change unless it's your decision. You forge your own path.

"Don't pay any attention to what they write about you. Just measure it in inches." - Andy Warhol

Very well. I have never had an image which depicted me other than early morning mist drifting aimlessly over a field washed in the first golden light of a crisp spring dawn.
In essence...

i am

i am silent.
for only in silence
may one listen.

i am alone.
for only in solitude
may one be touched by divinity.

i rest in humility.
for only in humility
may one be healed by others.

i am immersed in love.
for only in love
may one be baptised
in love.

I liked your picture, although a lurker & I agree that it isn't quite what we imagine when we think of you.

Girl in a mecha?

haha. Thanks civilian, that's me. (...or is that mecha in a girl?)

Anyways, the inspiration helped. Here's at least one leaf from my book of inner identities:

But yeah, not the whole story.

Man, those pictures freak me out, CJ. I just got shivers running all up and down my spine when I saw those. Especially that last one. I definitely know how that feels...

That second image, too. It's so sad and wistful, yet packed with powerful meaning. I don't know if I can describe how they impacted me any better than that...

I agree with love that one image isn't enough. I chose several.

Previously, I selected "the scream". I've always liked that painting. The external world in it seems ok, nothing there to scream about necessarily, but internally, there is an unsettled frustration. At least that is how I see it. In my life, externally, things seem ok. Wonderful wife, three great kids, decent job, but inside I feel like I am just coming completely unglued. I've always felt this way, since I was a kid. Don't know why. Something just never feels right and I just feel like screaming.

Below is a cocoon. A symbol to me of, as yet, unrealized potential. I keep saying "one day I am going to grow wings", but time just keeps passing by and I am starting to doubt I will ever emerge and fly.

Jekyll and Hyde. There is a side of me that stays hidden in real life. In fact, the side I show in this forum tends to be the side that is hidden in my day to day life. But its the side I prefer. I hate polite society, I hate not speaking my mind, I hate the facades. If those around me knew what I really think sometimes, they might think me a monster.

jekyll_hyde.gif

Electricity. Because I have a tendency to take the path of least resistence. I am a door mat. People walk all over me. I avoid confrontation at all costs. It's easier to take the blows than deliver them. It's easier to hide, than to stand up.

I am in no cage sir, save for the cage of reality.

of course not...

I am a mess.

I found an image I liked but I don't know how it will come out. I'm working from a Mac and don't know how it operates. I like the description. This is the address though: www.annewilsonartist.com/projects/mess/mess.jpg

mess.jpg
project credits

Mess is a video and 4-channel sound installation that has no beginning or end. It was created through stop-motion animation utilizing thread and lace fragments. The hand processing of both animation and textiles displays aspects of foible, imperfection, and irregularity. The motion and aural environment suggest aggression and accident - mess from devastation, rubble from the built environment, and a cycle of reformation.

Also, EB's poem, which I loved, reminded me of the poem that I have identified with more or less throughout my life:

I am! yet what I am none cares or knows, My friends forsake me like a memory lost;
I am the self-consumer of my woes,
They rise and vanish in oblivious host,
Like shades in love and death's oblivion lost;
And yet I am! and live with shadows tost

Into the nothingness of scorn and noise,
Into the living sea of waking dreams,
Where there is neither sense of life nor joys,
But the vast shipwreck of my life's esteems;
And e'en the dearest--that I loved the best--
Are strange--nay, rather stranger than the rest.

I long for scenes where man has never trod;
A place where woman never smil'd or wept;
There to abide with my creator, God,
And sleep as I in childhood sweetly slept:
Untroubling and untroubled where I lie;
The grass below--above the vaulted sky.

He wrote this while he was in a mental asylum - from 1842 to 1864 when he died.

@eudemonia... John Clare. It's been ages since I read something by him. Thanks.

"I am the self-consumer of my woes..."

This line and the images are revealing.
I can relate.
