Well Nia and I met up yesterday morning and we had a great time!

You know what they say on those personality sites? INTPs have lots of difficulty in social situations having to meet new people but when two INTPs meet each other they instantly launch into deep conversation? Well that pretty much sums it up! I have to say I found it absolutely fascinating meeting someone who was so like me - subtle things to do with the way we expressed ourselves and thought about life events. We met up at 9.30am and suddenly it was nearly 12 and we had only just started but it was time to go.

I'm friends with an INTP IRL. I have no idea how the hell it worked out that way. Put two INTPs (really two INTXs) together...and they really start talking. Often about really weird and random things.

In short, snowqueen's description that is taken from personality sites is 100% accurate, in my experience.

Unrelated: what happened to Mrmozen's (sp?) Tetris score? I'm suddenly champion...

Seriously, I think it's cool that you were able to meet. My father is the only INTP I know in real life, but he's pretty damaged from the Vietnam War and extremely closed off. I'd like to meet one other confirmed INTP sometime in my life, just to see what happens.

I guess this might be a semi appropriate place to post this. I met my own confirmed INTP, and it was interesting how the conversation fluctuated. When we chat online, the conversation gets deep and meaningful very quickly. But IRL, it's doubly awkward since we're both really reserved. We ended up just wandering around, just observing people most of the time. We had our moments of awesome conversation too. Then conversation levels fluctuated in an odd way. But it was still comfortable because we were both admittedly socially awkward. I didn't think I'd ever meet an INTP in my own high school.

This is funny Snowqueen told me she had posted our picture here, so I popped in to have a look. Actually, SHE is beautiful - she is warm, funny, open, intelligent, strong and fascinating to talk to. A perfect testment to INTPness. I guess we sometimes box ourselves into corners thinking 'oh, INTPs are geeks, they have no social skills and cannot communicate'. Not true. We are curious, open and flexible; we have great listening skills and in a funny kind of way, we do believe in people and in their potential. I have met a few INTPs and most of them have been in teaching and people development roles. Often, we can be quite people oriented, especially when we are at peace with ourselves and our place in life. INTPs can enjoy helping others by means of their expertise. I think when I was younger I was socially much more awkward but I see a lot of that now as a result of defensiveness and insecurity rather than intrinsic to my personality type. Anyway, we had a fun time, with lots in common and we'll definitely meet up again

I've known at least two INTPs in real life (I bet more) and I know at least one INFP. The first INTP I knew I dated in high school, and it was always bizarre because we had the best conversations in the world on the phone, but when we got together all we really knew to do was fool around. (Which was exceptionally good, by the way.) If we tried to talk, it would be me saying one thing, him out of nowhere saying something really random, me being confused, him being confused, and if other people were around it was even more confusing and awkward. And then poor little me with my little Fi heart would become convinced he felt nothing for me. But our phone conversations and eventual letters... if I have to rank correspondance, I would say the best in my life. That's what I like about here- all good conversation, no worry about actually meeting and feeling all vulnerable and wrong and awkward.

But I'm happy for you, Snow Queen and Eudemonia! It looks like you two had a lot of fun and really hit it off.

And I guess I do have an INTP acquaintance now and it's cool when we're talking one on one, but if we're in a larger group, forget it.

I went out with an INFJ for three years. He was the sweetest, kindest person. Very intelligent, quirky, interesting. If he had lived nearer me I think we would still be together. He was incredibly calm and quiet but there was tons going on under the surface. I learnt more about him from writing to him than when we were together irl. A very special person.

Very good post. INTPs sometimes just need more time to come into their own socially but can end up being very personable (in the good sense) and excellent teachers and companions/advisors/friends, just because of the ability to perceive so much of what's happening and how it fits together.

Right after my last day of school I went and bought some cheap plain shirts and a spray can to celebrate. I then proceeded to stencil the words INTP onto the shirt.

This summer I plan to go into book stores, electronic stores, etc - wearing those shirts and see what happens.
