What is your preferred gaming system? Why? [I said system, rather than console, as computers are a system, but not a console]

For my, I enjoy the XBox360, and then then my computer. Mostly, from the graphics, and familiarity of controls for the former. For the latter, the more expanse of options and ability to multitask.

PS3 beats out 360 by a narrow margin. It seems the games sometimes look/play/run a little better on that system (with some exceptions, such as Bayonetta), plus it has blu-ray, and I think the trophy system is more fun than the 360's achievement system. XBL is better than PSN (due to their Indie Games/Community Games/XNA support, and the support for XBL parties), but I don't play enough multiplayer to really notice. Also my 360 was an early model so it only has a 20 GB harddrive, which is another reason I usually go with PS3 over 360 games. It (the 360) does have backwards compatibility for the same reason though, which both systems discontinued in later production models. This opinion may change though once they release Move and Kinect... it could go either way, but right now I'm betting Kinect is gonna be more fun than Move (although there seem to be better Move games coming out in the first set of releases, in particular RE5, Killzone 3 and Heavy Rain).

Wii was my favorite system for about a week after I bought it, and I've barely played it since (part of why I'm skeptical of Move). Computer sounds great on paper but I never really got used to the keyboard and mouse set up.

Well my PS3 would be top of the list up until about a month ago... the damn laser eye died on me and I am too lazy to take it apart and replace it, also I don't want to pay the cash for a new one, plus the damn thing just lost warranty about 3 weeks before it messed up. Pissed me off, so now I got my 360 out and have been using it inplace of the PS3, 360 is nice but I like the PS3 menus, saddly I had bought 2 new games for the PS3 and had been playing them for a week before the failure.

PC exclusively, most of the games i play are PC only and emulation support for older consoles is pretty sweet. I'm kind of a sucker for retro games, haven't even tried the majority of new games that came out. ^^

I'm not going to participate in this meaningless conversation. Whatever console I own is my favorite.(I'm aware of the irony of posting to not post)

As horrible as it sounds I'll go ahead an say Wii. Not that I tend to play Wii games, but it basically operates as my NES and SNES system which makes up maybe 3/5 of my favorite games.
Other than that I say Xbox 360. 360 might be number one if it had decent backwards compatibility.

PC->PS3->XBOX360->Wii

Blizzard owns my soul. Black Isle Studios would be up there if they still made games.

PC. I'm familiar with computers since my early childhood and have hardly ever played on anything else; I strongly doubt I will ever even try any other system.

PC :) Steam is absolutely amazing.
My computer is getting a bit dated though.

Really though, I play my Nintendo DS more than anything else.

I am not sure about which one I prefer, but I am certain once the PS3 hacking is complete and it will be possible to run linux on it again, this time without restrictions, that gaming system is going to be my favorite one.

Preferred?

The one with the best selection of games (to me) is the PS2. I have the PS3 but so far the games haven't impressed me. Machine power and all that counts for nothing if there are no games to play on it.

It is quite neat to finally have a bluray player, tho.

I only play about 1-5 games on any given system.
My favorite would be Ps2 because of all the games and whatnot, but my preference of a system is 360 and wii.

360 because of the games+Live and Wii bc I play brawl a lot and know a lot of people that brawl. ^_^

PC.
*begin rant* Owned all the systems between the NES and the Sega Dreamcast. Favorite of those was the PS1. Game quality is a moot point...finding good ones for any system was never a challenge. The number one issue for me is the controllers, all of which sucked for the most part on all those systems, including...or especially...the PS1. We must have gone through a dozen of the early PS-1 controllers with the cheap plastic holding the D-pad together that would snap, making diagonal movement impossible. I'm going with the PS-1 strictly by virtue of the decent aftermarket controllers that were available for it, like the Namco NeGcon.

After playing games like Descent on PC with a keyboard, hand-held controllers are like a sudden onset of severe retardation.

Don't own any current or recent systems, though I'd guess any of them would provide the exquisitely orgasmic experience everyone's looking for. The Best Buy demonstrators I've tried don't imply that controller technology has advanced much from the PS-1 days, but whatever. The real problem is that they all require televisions, which are rather a waste for games alone unless there's also a cable subscription pumping content into them, neither of which are conducive to the task of raising children, which is our primary household activity at present. I will never buy an X-box on principle anyway as I refuse to be roped into paying for a LIVE account when I'm already paying monthly internet fees for the privilege of running around in multiplayer environments with other foul-mouthed arrogant assholes. The PS-3 looks really cool, though if I ever capitulate to the midgets it'll undoubtedly be a wii as that's what they're pining for. *end rant*

I'm also a PC person.

I can see the appeal of consoles, but their appeal is their simplicity. Consoles are for the bulk of the population and PCs are there for those who want something more involved.

That whole online gaming scene is a huge cash cow for Microsoft and frankly total bull shit. Gaming companies withhold maps and the like to charge in an exclusive "marketplace" with "points" after you have already handed over sixty dollars for one title. They provide one month of "xbox live free" when you initially set things up - which smacks of a heroin dealer affording the customer a sampling of the product rather than a nice thing to do. Also, for some games you could literally equal the cost of the console with the miscellaneous crap attached to the game. Where do I sign up? Honestly, since Microsoft is the only one who does this, and since they have droves of willing customers, folks should stop playing online for a week/until Microsoft is willing to offer what everyone else offers for free. They care about your money far too much to say no.

Microsoft created the system to charge for extra content, but the game publishers share some of the blame for taking advantage of it. In many cases the publishers hold back content that was ready at the same time as the original game, just for the opportunity to charge for it later.

I don't mind them charging for everything, because they offer a lot of extra content and options. However, for people like me, who just want to play online and don't use all the extra frou-frou features, it would be nice to have a simple online-play-only option to subscribe to for free or at a reduced price.

I'm not sure, but it's rather chilly.
I'm torn between PC and ps2.
PC has been explained extensively above.
As for the ps2, I've had mine for 8 years and it still works well. It just seemed good for the time, and the games are somewhat nostalgic.
