The only movie in the romance genre that I even liked a little bit was
"Ten Things I Hate About You"

It is open for discussion if this movie belongs in the romance genre.

Perfume - the story of a murderer.

I also liked films like before sunrise. Lightweight, like drinking a Margarita. Enjoyable, probably due to it's simplicity.

I'm actually a sucker for romance. I liked movies like beauty and the beast, the last of the mohicans, les miserables, Atonement, Stardust, Lost and delirious.

The mark of quality, is if they make me teary eyed.

Romeo and Juliet, The classic star crossed lovers movie. Maybe even brokeback mountain, but it was a bit too much down to earth, the tragedies aren't real tragedies imo.

Lolita

The crying game

Many nice movies in this genre.

:storks: I pick Perfume as the favorite.

Mostly comedies that have some elements of romance, they have the Rogen/Apatow cast that I tend to like.

I love Perfume: A Tale of Muder. Such a good movie from a sensual standpoint.

As for my favorite Romance?

I choose Princess Bride! :D Wait, I don't choose it for the romance aspect though. I couldn't care less about My Sweet Wesley. I don't have to choose based on the romantic part of the romance do I?

I liked that as well. Actually possibly Will Ferall's best movie but it doesn't really get nearly as much hype as any of his other movies.

And you wonder why you remind me of ENFJness...

Bigger font and color to directively move the environment by the usage of Fe.
>Romance< ... Are you kidding me?

Don't get all personal offended again. I get along rather well with ENFJs. If you'd seen me irl, you'd know my intention isn't to cause harm.

Its actually an open ended question. INTPs and any other type for that matter can enjoy romantic/emotionally driven movies.

I don't like many romance movies but I can set through a few romantic comedies every now and then.

I am and INTP and I enjoy Horror movie for the pure reasons that they move me. I don't get moved emotionally easily so I enjoy when it happens.

One of my favorite movies of all times is Life is Beautiful because it is the only movie I have yet to see that make me both laugh and cry. Actually its also the only movie I have ever cried after seeing it. The ending is very sad.

Therefore, I think your argument is mute because people who are very strongly T and not very in touch with there emotions may still seek emotionally driven art to move them.

I couldn't agree more. I can't stand more than a few minutes of drama and emotion, and oftentimes I feel like I'm observing the characters through a glass pane instead of letting the work move me, but I love a moving scene.

You are misinterpreting my post. I didn't argue him to be an ENFJ. Everything he posts, just has an ENFJ touch. Thus he reminds me of ENFJness. Not specifically and limited by, this(OP) post. Even his picture reminds me of ENFJness.

Also, if something reminds me of something, it ought to have a reason. A reason I'll persist to pursue.

Typical ENFJ:

ENFJs are awesome.

You see, there's more to life than wasting it.

For everything else, just look up silver linings.

Harvey is the greatest movie ever. It's not a romance, but there is a character that has some romance with another character, but that is more funny than anything else.

A beautiful movie about finding love after losing love, of meticulous devotion, of never letting your loved one go....

Just watched this for the first time last week. I bought the BluRay now and will watch it again; it's kind of hard to track some of what is happening especially near the end. But it was so ambitious for him to try, it's just kind of a neat movie. Great acting too.

I do not like romance genres, but don't mind if romance is a central theme in a movie as long as there are other interesting plots occuring simultaneously. First, I have to agree with @Cavallier, The Princess Bride was quite good. Sure it had romance, but it had a lot of action and adventure and humor, and hence, was enjoyable.

A couple of movies that I also enjoyed was Lust, Caution, an Ang Lee film in Chinese. Also, I enjoyed Dr. Zhivago(russian version, available in parts on youtube). I enjoyed the book by Boris Pasternak and I did not care for the American version because it Americanized the plot a bit too much. What I enjoyed about the book was how foreign and intriguing Russian culture seemed to me. The British movie version was a little better, but the main character Dr. Zhivago's INFPness really wore on me half way through the film.

And of course, the greatest romance movie of all time......The Notebook(KIDDING!!!!) LOL......

Haha yeah it rocks. Although some scenes are like physically painful to watch. Them damn mirror neurons.

Imo it wouldn't work nearly as good if they hadn't managed to portray the relationship between the father and son so well, that really got me to care bout the poor fellah.

I tried watching it with my own father but it didn't go down so well : (

"Demon Seed"

A women gets knocked up by a computer.

No, wait. That wasn't wholly consensual and therefore not a romance.

The Kiera Knightly version of "Pride and Prejudice."

this!

the sequel (before sunset) is quite tedious though. however the third installment seems rather promising. there's a trailer on youtube but i shouldn't bloat the thread with it.

I guess Jimmy Stewart's Harvey, which is my favourite movie of all time. There is a romance sub-plot. It's a fantastic movie; INTPs would probably really enjoy it because it is about how everyone is absolutely insane, and that is OK.

Not much into movies at all, but I was really impressed with a psychological romance called Closer. It's a great movie to help work out your theory of mind; the characters' plans and motives are never totally clear, but still felt very realistic.

And there's a scene where Natalie Portman plays a stripper.

More serious responses from me:

- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
- Moulin Rouge (okay, it's a little over the top)
- 500 Days of Summer
- When Harry Met Sally
- Wall-E / Up
- The Princess Bride
- Groundhog Day
- Dave
- While You Were Sleeping
- My Best Friend's Wedding [this is one of my faves ever]
- Easy A
- Bridesmaids
- Edward Scissorhands
- Like Crazy
- The 40-Year Old Virgin
- Crazy Stupid Love
- Flipped

I kinda like "realistic" romances or funny ones, not the conventional chick flicks. Most movies branded as "romances" are on my "worst movies evah" list.

I also have a stupid affection for "50 First Dates." It's not really a great movie, but it's kind of sweet. I'm surprised I like it.

Lol. I wouldn't necessarily call that a "romance," it's more like "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?" in that the four cast members all kind of abuse and manipulate each other until everything sifts out and you see who is left standing.

Natalie Portman gives one of the best performances of her career. I have said before that, without a good director, she tends to float in circles but with a good director she can be stunning... and this (along with Black Swan) are two movies where she does some amazing against-type work.

It was a pretty blunt movie. Wow. And great acting. Julia Roberts was probably the weakest, and she wasn't bad. Now I want to watch it again. Great opening music/sequence too.

So my "Psychological Romance" label didn't do it for ya? ;)

And while we're on the subject of Natalie Portman, is it legal to say I enjoyed Garden State on this forum?

Yes, it's illegal, but consider it an act of civil disobedience. I enjoyed that film too.

Also, another film in a somewhat similar vein: I Heart Huckabees.

And the films of Wes Anderson. They're all kind of romances aren't they?

I especially found Moonrise Kingdom to be heartwarming and romantic.

I'm a bit ashamed to say I have a soft spot for good romance movies, so long as they're legitimately witty and not just melodramatic. (It's one of those things that has caused me to question my T.)

I enjoyed Bridesmaids (even though it was... less than realistic) and He's Just Not That Into You (I get a kick out of watching romantic relationships progress). I like a lot of Disney and Disney Pixar movies with romantic elements as well (Tangled!).

The Great Gatsby is not truly a love story, but I really enjoyed the movie.
