Desert island list, etc. Must be 10, no more. Doesn't need to be in order of preference, it's understood absolute favourite changes depending on mood. Only one album per artist, which will result in some difficult choices to be made ...

Mine are,

The Beatles, Rubber Soul
The Rolling Stones, Exile on Main Street
Television, Marquee Moon
Pavement, Crooked Rain Crooked Rain
The Smiths, The Queen is Dead
The Beach Boys, Pet Sounds
Gang of Four, Entertainment!
Neil Young, After the Gold Rush
Derek & The Dominoes, Layla & Assorted Love Songs
Steely Dan, Pretzel Logic

The Downward Spiral (nine inch nails)
The Ultimate Experience (Jimi Hendrix)
Perfect From Now On (Built to Spill
XO (Elliott Smith)

It's a brilliant album. I absolutely love Explosions and I was devastated when I had to miss them the only time I've heard of them touring near me. :(

Punk In Drublic - NOFX
More Noise and Other Disturbances - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Legend - Bob Marley
Two Shoes - The Cat Empire
Live at Ernesto's - The Slackers
Operation Ivy - Operation Ivy
Everything You Need - Slightly Stoopid
Sublime - Sublime
A Poet's Life - Tim Armstrong
The Specials - The Specials (not sure if this is a best of album or not, but if it is then that's probably cheating, and I'd have to go with Coral Fang by The Distillers)

This was kind of tough for me given the 1 artist rule, that I grew up in a generation where music was downloadable for free, and thus, I often got songs instead of complete albums, and the fact that I don't listen to much outside of punk, ska, or reggae.

I must not have read the OP properly/at all the first time I posted, thanks for pointing it out.

Revised list:

The Antlers - Hospice
Godspeed You!Black Emperor - Life Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
Radiohead - Amnesiac
Sigur Rós - Ágætis byrjun
Portishead - Dummy
Sufjan Stevens - Illinois

Yann Tiersen - Tabarly
Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People
Bat For Lashes - Two Suns

The last four are somewhat "filler" in that there is a large difference in my passion for them versus the first six.

Songs In the Key of Life - Stevie Wonder
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
The Yes Album - Yes
Zeppelin III - Led Zeppelin (Which is funny because I'm just listening to it for the first time today. Have had I, II, and IV for a long time but never heard this one....aaaand now I'm in love with it. I'm not overreacting either; IV comes close to this one but I still immediately prefer III. Have you heard "Since I've been Loving You?" Wawawewa. I just...

anyway...

Viva La Vida - Coldplay
Juslisen - Musiq
Kenna - Make Sure They See My Face
Illmatic - Nas
Edit: 2-way tie. Dig Out Your Soul - Oasis/Midnight Marauders - A Tribe Called Quest

I can't believe I was forced to choose between Floyd's DSOTM and Animals, and Yes's "Edge" and Yes Album. Damn you.

Please don't trap me on a desert island. Making me choose only 10 albums to listen to forever is worse than being trapped on an island.
I actually might enjoy being alone on an island if I had sustenance, etc...

This is a desert island list, not a top ten list. It is a tough call, because it is hard to fit all my musical interests into ten albums. I had to prune out some albums I really love just to make sure I didn't neglect important musical needs.

Essentials:
Renaissance - Live at Carnegie Hall
October Project - Falling Farther In
Constance Demby - Novus Magnificat
Debussy - La Mer/Trois Nocturnes/Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun

Exercise:
Elysium - Dance for the Celestial Being
Psychic Chakra

Jazz:
Opera Swing Quartet - Mischen: Is Possible
Chick Corea & Hiromi - Duet

Classical:
Tomita - Snowflakes are Dancing
Eddie Daniels - The Five Seasons

Okay, now for a top ten list, which, unlike a desert island list, is not being designed with a certain use in mind. For classical works, I'll omit particular performers. Choices are somewhat arbitrary and could be different at a different time.

Renaissance - Live at Carnegie Hall
October Project - Falling Farther In
Constance Demby - Novus Magnificat
Debussy - La Mer/Trois Nocturnes/Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun
Vienna Teng - Warm Strangers
Yes - Keys to Ascension
Holst - The Planets
Sarah Brightman - Harem
Richard Souther - Vision: The Music of Hildegard von Bingen
Keiko Matsui - No Borders

Scratch my earlier post in this thread. It is very difficult for me to choose between 3 Floyd albums and 3 Yes albums.

DSOTM, Animals, actually I really like Atom Heart too, Meddle's just as good or better than Atom Heart.

Close to the Edge, Yes Album, Going for the One, Fragile. I put Topographic Oceans and Relayer slightly below these but I still need them in my life.

There's a ton of music not played by these two bands that I'd be left to struggle with and ultimately couldn't decide between, so this is impossible for me. I'd literally have to be chased by someone with a gun and see a pile of 25 or so of my most revered albums, and have just enough time to grab 10 at random. I'd more than likely be shot, though.

I do apologize, OP. I must now hang my head in shame.
