I can't really pick 10, so following my lastfm stats, these are the albums I listened to the most the past couple of months:

arlaqin10overall1391440.jpg

though the stats are skewed since albums with fewer lengthier songs can't compete.

In an intriguing yet dangerous realm.
My top ten albums are as follows; you'll have to excuse the fact that it is almost exclusively comprised of one band, but Muse is simply too brilliant to supplant. No one even comes close. I saw them live in Noblesville, Indiana just last night, and they are amazing! They're by far the best recorded and live band of all time, and their live performances are sometimes even better than their studio recordings!

1. Muse - Origin of Symmetry

2. Muse - The Resistance

3. Muse - Black Holes & Revelations

4. Muse - Absolution

5. Muse - HAARP - Live from Wembley

6. Muse - Hullabaloo

7. Muse - Showbiz

8. Kutless - Hearts of the Innocent

9. Hawk Nelson - Smile, It's the End of the World

10. Various Artists - Classical Treasures: The Sampler

There's something about these ranking threads that proves irresistible to me, and I almost always seem to regret the decision to evade vagueness, but here we go.

Albums ebb and flow, wax and wane in the degree to which they thrill me. Enough excuses...

Pump It Up is by far the best song about onanism, don't you know? Sort of makes you rethink Hand in Hand though.

How did DJ Shadow, Bob Dylan, Randy Newman, My Bloody Valentine, Television, XTC, Thelonious Monk, John Lennon and the Stones elide my list? The compunction begins...

So you don't feel deprived, here you go babies:

Meddle - Pink Floyd

Kind of Blue - Miles Davis

The Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground

This Year's Model - Elvis Costello

Sea Change - Beck

Closer - Joy Division

Safe as Milk - Captain Beefheart

OK Computer - Radiohead

More Songs About Buildings and Food - Talking Heads

Halcyon Digest - Deerhunter

My favorite album of all time is Cannibal Ox's the Cold Vein. Next is Quasimoto - The Unseen. After that, I can't really rank them; I could probably rank by genre though.

Subject to change I guess, trying not to be bias to current listening tastes and incorporate favourites past as well.

Clutch - Blast Tyrant
Tool - Lateralus
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds of Fire
Meshuggah - Nothing
Nas - Illmatic
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Soundgarden - Superunknown
Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese/Frizzle Fry
DJ Shadow - Entroducing

I feel a little silly excluding so many other albums that I love, I guess these ones among others feel timeless amd they never seem to get old. Also I'm trying to rank this based on how an entire album pieces together, which I think is a different sort of dynamic than just a favourite artists/songs. Some of my favourite songs aren't on any of these.

1. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
2-3. Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon or The Wall (part 2 of the Wall may be better than The Dark Side of the Moon, but the first part is certainly inferior)
4. The Beatles - Abbey Road
5. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV
6. Radiohead - The Bends

Honorable Mentions:
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
Muse - The Resistance (This may not be the most popular choice, but I feel Exogenesis is legitimately one of the most brilliant musical works of all time, and the symphonic rock feel of the album appeals to me immensely, making it a more important, if not necessarily better, album than their other works)
Muse - Absolution
Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
Queen - A Night at the Opera
Radiohead - OK Computer

Not ten bands and not ten albums, but whatever. I could not justify putting two other bands up there. Everything after those lucky thirteen is not remotely consistent. As it is, this is already somewhat questionable after The Bends.

Nirvana - Nevermind
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Have A Nice Life - Deathconciousness
Venetian Snares - Doll Doll Doll
Chance The Rapper - AcidRap
Mastodon - Leviathan

I feel like a top 20 would be much better. 10 is just too narrow, so many genres are absent from this list.

If you haven't heard Slint - Spiderland or Have A Nice Life - Deathconciousness, you need to change that tonight. I feel like they would especially appeal to the emotional side of a lot of people on this forum.

It's interesting how varied one's own opinion can be from one day to the next with these things. New list, a few have stayed the same.

King Crimson - Discipline (I want to put Thrak because it has some of my favourite songs, but I think Discipline is an amazing album)
Tool - Lateralus
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds of Fire
Meshuggah - Koloss
Alice in Chains - Dirt
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing
Opeth - Blackwater Park
The Crystal Method - Vegas

Honourable mention for Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers - almost put it over Vegas.
