It's like a rash. You have to resist the urge to scratch that itch. It will disappear soon enough by itself and after a while you'll forget it was ever there in the first place.

Are you referring to the person, or the urge a person like that might have?

Or maybe it shall remain a mystery (Just to not scratch the rash).

Does the end justify the means?
I would just say "you are repeating your mistakes" but I wouldn't know.

The discussion is not about you, it's about people like you.

You are just one example but a pretty clear one, ergo I put your name up there. Who knows maybe you have a good reason, maybe you just do it for fun and to see how people react (bad, but aren't we all?).

nothing in here is a mistake. 100% raw & uncut. You remember that time you wanted to say something to your ex gf but didn't? or that time you felt like really tearing into whoever for screwing up your whatever? I have 27 years of thoughts I've kept to myself. I also keep a personal blog, that's public actually, not that you guys need to read any more of what I write. But I find it's more therapeutic (or fun) when people actually respond to your opinions.

although seeing someone else use MunkySpanker and Phenomenon in the same sentence, though not in the context I would have hoped for -- keep me coming back just to see what else you nits are capable of. is it bad to end a sentence with a preposition eh? does eh count as a preposition eh?

Wow that guy racked up posts quick. Is that trolling? I know I have asked the question before but don't know the real answer.

This is the first time I have used a forum so I am still unsure of what all this means. I will assume this happens regularly since there is a thread about it now...

Is it me or does anyone else get the same feeling of hyper activity when reading his posts? I haven't read many but I sense it.

Hum I wondered what happened to smeagle. I am glad I don't have the responsibilities of the admins. That would just be to much work for me.

Wikipedia said:
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. In addition to the offending poster, the noun troll can also refer to the provocative message itself, as in "that was an excellent troll you posted". While the term troll and its associated action trolling are primarily associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels highly subjective, with trolling being used to describe intentionally provocative actions outside of an online context. For example, recent media accounts have used the term troll to describe "a person who defaces internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families."

It's a common internet phenomenon, trolls and spammers are pretty much dime a dozen.

where do I draw the line? serious or kidding? empathetic or asshole? funny or mean? come here or not? in a way I don't care about you nits, in a way, I can't wait to see how emotional I've made you with a few strokes of the keyboard... you hate me because I'm narcissistic and cocky... but i do it on purpose because pity makes me uncomfortable. but, you acknowledge my existence. even if i piss you off, at least you understood my insult to be an insult; most people stare at me like my yorkie does when I ask him if he's happy or sad; not you, at least you feel the need to either befriend me or destroy me; I refuse to fall into the purgatory of normalness; would rather be hated than to be neutralized into ambivalence; how did I find you guys anyways you should ask? why did I wait 27 years to find out what my personality type was? I was actually being empathetic to those close to me... I googled "how to live with an INTP" and this was how I found this forum... I read wacky philosophical inquiries, which reminded me of me... it burns a little when I'm ridiculed, but at least I feel alive; because in the normal world I'm not noticed; in the normal world, i'm not even scoffed at; i'm misunderstood, and the most I get is weird; my humor doesn't get the :storks: it deserves; i'm very good at pushing away those closest to me; probably as a mechanism to value those that stick around; my view of people has teetered from "we are born good" to "we are born evil" -- I feel like most of my acquaintances would stab me in the back if given an opportunity to benefit themselves; I feel bad when I hurt your feelings, but generally I didn't mean to;

Usually trolls are defined as attention seekers too, which is exactly the kind of behavior he's pointing out in his personal thoughts.

Attempts to disrupt normalcy here generally are lost amid a sea of abnormality. I hadn't particularly noticed this poster except for a vague awareness of some overwrought melodrama and perhaps an over-aggressive forcing of his/her life upon the rest of us.

Come on, Smeagle was way better than this guy. I could at least laugh *at* Smeagle, this guy was just annoying. And whiny. I shouldn't have fed him with that early thread he made about how much his life sucked. He gives depressed people with shitty life-histories a bad name. Now the next time someone comes in with something like, "Listen to how much my life sucks," it'll be "you're just another monkey spanker"...

I bet we won't get any funny apology videos this time around.

It's like a rash. You have to resist the urge to scratch that itch. It will disappear soon enough by itself and after a while you'll forget it was ever there in the first place.

I second that. It's exactly like a rash. You notice the first occurence, no big deal, but then they multiply and spread, and all of them have 0 replies. You must scratch that, but you know that just will worsen the situation.

But behind that rash, lives a sad bacteria.

^ Probably, though to be fair, whine threads don't have to be that bad. For instance, someone can make a thread about a problem where they seek help/advice without it being annoying. I think his problem was a.) he made more than one thread about whining, if I'm not mistaken, b.) he didn't seem to answer direct questions very often and didn't seem interested in solutions, only sympathy, c.) I think there's an unwritten rule that new members should immerse themselves a bit before making such threads, as that proves they're not just here to bitch, though that one is hard to judge.

I don't envy mods, as I find it very difficult to determine who should be banned and why, though I could certainly see that people were annoyed by him. I think it's safe to say that, if you're going to be annoying, do it after you've been around a while, not before. ;)

EDIT: this was directed at Melllvar.

The purpose for this thread was to discuss the phenomenon, not the person itself.
As echoplex did in the post above me ^^^

I can't call it a troll though, he does seek for attention... but I think he seeks for more of compassion and caring. Sure he gets off topic, but aren't we all? That's why I gave it the name the munkyspanker phenomenon - because Malllvar is right, maybe referencing people with the name (oops! the melllvar part stops here O:) will give them the urge to search the forum and find this post, maybe give them a better idea what the hell are they doing wrong. (I know I needed one)

Well, to discuss the phenomenon itself, I actually think my own posting style is fairly similar to his, in that it's easy for me to get carried away and spam a bunch of threads with funny-only-to-me comments, particularly when I start having a good time. And to bitch about my problems too much. The main difference is my intentions aren't bad, so I usually refrain from making more than so many posts in a given time period, and if I realize I'm pissing people off I stop (unless it's a discussion and I'm honestly expressing my opinion). Also I tend not to start many new threads (I just derail pre-existing ones).

I'm honestly not sure that some of these people aren't just intentional trolls. It crossed my mind with Smeagle and with Munky. I guess I just can't see what's going through people's heads to make them continue being an ass even after people tell them they're being an ass, unless they're just trying to cause trouble. Have to concur with echoplex, I really don't envy the mods for having to make those decisions.

yeah some people arn't paranoid however I do agree (in Munkys case at least) there was wide spread discontent.

I seem to have the feeling I have killed a lot of threads thus far.

Also was thinking, if these people actually want attention, we are giving them what they wanted by talking about them even though they have been banned.

This is odd that there is a phenomenon of this sort. I can read these peoples posts and laugh at them, but I also see how horrible their messages are, "You guys are nerd right?" I read that and was like wow this guy doesn't care who he hurts, I know some people would be offended by such terms. Some people are just more sensitive than others, while some have been completely de-sensitized, which maybe these people actually have a problem, maybe they can't connect to humans, maybe they are just alone and this is the only way they can reach out, I don't know.

Some people just project what they feel on other people - it's actually normal human behavior. If he would have been de-sensitized as you say he is, he would have hidden it like a true sociopath. His actually over sensitized, and thus he gets mad at us for passing the state he has been with the right choices instead of the wrong ones (I don't believe in right or wrong choices but this will have to do) that he did.

He can connect to humans but he is mad at the world.

If he'd been a narcissist he wouldn't of complained about anything and wouldn't of presented himself in a bad way.

I find it fascinating though, this phenomenon - because it could happen to any one of us in an instant, our lives can shatter. I'm feeling sorry for him, he got his compassion from me.

If you are even worried about that, you're probably not.

The thing with munkyspankers is that they don't care. They just spout anything random they can think of and to me it sounds something like this:

Words of wisdom.

People like Munkyspanker (Admit it, you all giggle every time you read his name.) come in like a bull in a china shop and then call all of us stuffy and stuck up when we get irritated. The thing is we all like smashing a little crockery ourselves right? It's just that we know when the right time to do it is. Take a few days to orient yourself and you are much less likely of stomping around like an idiot. It's not that we don't like trolls here (frankly most of us fit the definition from time to time) it's just that we (the Royal we?) ask that they not irritate the forum as a whole so much.

It's hard to find myself. I've been a little of several of them. That's probably normal though. I think most people have a combination of behaviors...

I've narrowed my search down to these for myself:

Philosopher-When I'm really well behaved.
Big Dog- And then when I'm not behaved.
Furious Typer- I can type pretty fast. I try to avoid errors, but they tend to happen in the longer posts.
Grammarian- I don't do it much now unless the errors are terrible. I can't help myself sometimes.
Eagle Scout- Sometimes I do this, if I think it's really necessary. Otherwise it's kind of fun just to discuss topics for the heck of it.
Ennui- Could be this one. I'm afraid to think so.
Enfant Provocateur- I guess I might do this if I'm really bored. I don't just go out flaming people, I might just poke them with a stick.
Jekyll and Hyde- I do the misplaced anger thing sometimes. Don't know that I turn from pleasant to crazed though. :S
Nitpick- It's an FYI thing. I don't try to make it relevent if it isn't... -_-;
Big Cat- I do love interesting and toying with people who I've realized are inferior.
Tireless Rebutter- But eventually, I did get tired of it...

Was any warning given to this guy? A personal one telling him what was wrong?

Frankly, every single time such a thing happens I feel quite sad that the forums catering to INTPs do not seem to give people very much of a chance.

Unfortunately, we do not have an Ignore function, otherwise he would not have had to be banned.
