Unfortunately in Australia the internet is so slow I can barely even load the link. That aside, I never even knew a shaved chest fad existed. I would imagine that it's dependent on what the individual lady finds pleasing to see and on how the male carries the hair on his chest. Does the hair suit the chest, do some chests look better shaved? Opinions are probably divided, which is surely a good thing.

This all got started a long time ago when male swimmers started shaving body hair to cut down drag while competing. Since male swimmers tend to be well muscled with excellent definition, it kind of caught on. You can see the change; early James Bond movies from the 1960s show Sean Connery with a hairy chest. Nowadays male leads tend to have hairless chests, except, of course, for Wolverine. :D

"How does he know this?" you ask. The fellow across the hall from me for two years at college was on the Syracuse U swim team. While the rest of the dorm floor looked like the cast of "Hair," he was clean shaven everywhere. So of course I asked "Why?" "Swim team." He was surrounded by girls all the time. I almost joined the swim team, except I don't swim.

I prefer chest hair on men.

My ex used to shave everywhere bar his legs and pits.

I remember asking why his chest.. I can't remember what he said about the whole of his chest.. But he shaved his nips because he hated the way his hair grew silly rings around them.

I agreed.

We debated his pubic line, and I managed to get him to stop shaving that... Sometimes.

Regardless of what women say, women like men to be masculine.

Yeah. The real man has hair everywhere, but on the crown of his head.

It's not like humans have been selecting for hairlessness for all of recent evolutionary history or anything.

Apply the same logic to facial hair.

I hate facial hair. I used to like it in my 20s because I thought it was a sign of being a man. One of those evolutionary trinkets to symbolize something.

We've outgrown that though.

Masculinity in the modern world is defined by sharp lines where femininity is defined by smooth, curved lines.

In both cases hair doesn't belong. At least not body hair. There was a beard renaissance for a while due to the movie 300 but that is the real fad here. A beard hides the lines of the jaw. It becomes a question mark regarding masculinity. Though it can give the appearance of masculinity it doesn't truly replace a strong jaw with sharp lines.

The modeling world proves that.

Yes
Beard renaissance has nothing to do with the film 300.

Beards are good, but only when they're groomed and have the appearance of being deliberate. I have a beard. It detracts attention from my shit jawline.

Chest hair is fine too - I feel like my beard would be out of place if there was no chest hair to accompany it...

Likewise, not having chest hair and not having a beard are also fine options.

In my experience, it hasn't really mattered to women one way or the other (except for when my beard is measured in inches, at that point, theres definitely some polarity). Other people's experiences may be different.

I say do as you please; so long as you can pull it off...

Meh what about faces? In many countries, women with angular faces and sharp features are considered more attractive than those with rounded and softer features

Pheromones. The hair, angles and whatnot don't matter. :storks:

What exactly are you saying here? That shaved is as sexy as hairy because pheromones are intact and they are what mediates attraction?

Yeah. Pheromones fuel the madly-in-love 18-month passion. When your system adapts and they no longer interfere with your emotions, it's time for shared interests, compatible personalities and all the rest to take over the fuel the long-term commitment. All the hair stuff - look at photos from every decade since 1900 and you can see how hair fashion and "fashions fashion" change every few years, shaping our idea of "attractive." There is apparently no universal condition that is "attractive." Silly example: trimmed eyebrows on men. All the rage now. Not when I was a kid. Do that in 1960 and you wouldn't be able to return to school until they grew back in, women with little kids would cross the street to avoid you, and men with intact eyebrows would raise their's if you interviewed for a job.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I don't see it as a bad thing or a good thing, just a thing that explains a lot of irrational behavior on the part of people who are attracted to each other. :-) Kind of a trait that insures people get pregnant and the species continues whether we actually think about it or not. (And OK, not everyone is susceptible.)

I do shave my chest (well, I use hair removal creme, much easier), but simply because my chest hair grows weirdly, only on one side and it looks too funny. What kinda annoys me are those random long patches of hair that start growing from one place very quickly, you pick them off and then they never grow there again. Happens a lot from the shoulders and some chest locations. Once I had it grow under the eye within a couple of days, then I plucked it off and it never appeared again. Kinda freaky.

I used to shave my chest hair, because it was patchy. It's gets thicker each year like my beard. My girlfriend says that she loves my body hair. She was also born in the early 80's. She is not one of the 90s-2000s millennials. So I assume that plays a role in her tastes.

I honestly like body hair on women. I don't get the need for them to shave their armpits and legs all the time. I get keeping pubes under control, for oral sex. I get like the practical reason for shaved legs, while wearing tight pants. But otherwise, why? You can shape it to look more even or uniform if you desire Like head hair. Just a thought
