My uncle died of complications from diabetes a few hours ago. Please keep him and my family in your thoughts. I won't be here for a while; my family needs me.

Thanks to everyone for their support. He will be buried this Thursday. My mother is flying so that a family member can be at the funeral (several thousand miles away).

Crim, if you're up to it, stories about the recently deceased usually help me. Don't post them here, if you're not willing, but it sometimes helps when you can celebrate someone's life as an awesome sense of accomplishment.

But if you do feel like telling some stories, I'd surely read on.

Your loss is in my thoughts. Take care, forum brother.

I don't want to hijack this thread but actually it seemed the most appropriate place to post this.

My dear colleague and friend, Alan, died this morning of lung cancer. It wasn't a surprise but it is terribly sad - he was only 51 years old.

I will probably hold off posting for a little while as I need a little reflection space.

I don't consider it a hijack, and I welcome others who wish to post their losses here.

I'm glad that you posted it here; I know that you might be away for a while, but I hope our thoughts and words will be just as healing when you read them. To all those who deal with grief: you are not alone.

My advice to everyone is to tell the people in your life that they are important to you, and tell them how much they mean to you. There are not enough chances to do this in life, and I'm sure they would love to tell you how much you mean to them as well.

Finally, make sure you are chasing in life what is really important to you. Don't get caught up in what others say is; you have to decide for yourself. Don't sell yourself short or deny your potential because of what others think is important or what success is.

Stay cool everyone,
CK

CK/snow queen, i sincerely pray good omen on you and your relatives/friends (and if there is an afterlife of some sort, good luck to them! :))

ironic how death can bring about new life.

but yeah, definately celebrate their lives

Oh Cybernetist that is such a sad story - I'm so sorry to read about that. That must be devastating for your family. I really don't know what to say.

How are your family dealing with it?

I live in south-western Ontario and my grandfather lived in western Quebec in the Ottawa-Hull area. I haven't seen him in a few years because of the distance and all my aunts and cousins from my mother's family live there too. I haven't been in regular contact with most of my extended family. My father's family lives in the Netherlands and I'm terrible at staying in contact with any of them. I don't really know how they're dealing with it. I don't really know how far I've dealt with it so far myself.
