Well, it has finally happened.

I think the old man deserves a thread to follow along with, to ease his passing into the afterlife.

Here is where you can briefly say: "sayonara amigo" to old man BAP. :D

I predict little or no controversy over this but it is worth mentioning (to honor his spirit) that perhaps this decision was made in haste and could have been forgotten simply with a mere dip in the pool and a Gin martini.

This best be a wind up or Melkor is going to have to have a serious talk with the admins.

And by serious I mean electrified punishment spikes, and by talk I mean introduce to the former!

End of an era.

@Architect: Read the Ban thread.
EDIT: Oh, wait. Yes. Norm. He seemed more "Cliff" to be honest, but okay.

If you'd like, I will speak for Diane Chambers on this solemn occasion:

[bimgx=300]http://www.celebritywatchdog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/shelly-long-cheers-insert.jpg[/bimgx]

"The loss of BAP is a loss for us all and perhaps for all humanity. His incalculable perseverence, his ongoing but amicable confusions of innumerable flavors, the fashion in which he used to pester his meritable peers through personal electronic memorandum without permission... those are the recollections we take with us of this dear, old, affable-yet-somewhat-senile man who will now be left with nothing to fill his melancholy days but puttering about the house like a shadow in the footsteps of his wife --

-- oh heavens, that poor woman!" *runs off to make a call*

Ah yes, I think what the admins were really going for when they banned BAP was to be reminded of BAP even more.

Or maybe this is just super edgy next-level ironic BAP impersonation.

He was a man of duty, a protector of the weak, a light in the darkness.

He died an unevitable death, suddenly, as he went about his schedule, he was deprived of the pleasure that could be compared to reading of a newspaper while sipping from a cup of coffee. He was sentenced long ago when he accepted his ways.

May he find a proper replacement to his routine and even better stimulations for his brain.

If this thread is to be a reflective tribute, it must ramble on for at least 4000 posts, copy itself in multiple locations, and instigate irritable interventions of at least 40% of the mod staff during any given week.

Hm, yes quite.

OK fair enough, I hadn't seen the Admin butt-hurt side of the equation. He is quite dotty.

Oh BAP! The Humanity! Oh this is terrible!

[BIMG]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/84/Hindenburg_burning.jpg/1280px-Hindenburg_burning.jpg[/BIMG]

Architect. I'm not familiar with that terminology. I tried asking my wife what "butt-hurt" means but she says she would rather not talk about that. You also said "he is quite dotty". I'm not sure if you're talking about a poster in this thread or another. I don't want to name names because some members might not appreciate that. It's possible you're talking about the person this thread is named after. Can I say that?*

*Wait, scratch that. I now see this thread is about BAP. OK I am talking about BAP as well.

I don't think a permanent ban was deserved. Yeah he seemed out of control with the prodding and I suppose I don't know what it was like for the moderators or any people he was allegedly harassing through PMs. But he wasn't verbally abusive, he wasn't shutting down posts with insults etc. He provoked discussion which is what a forum is about.

The forum itself isn't a democracy, but I am certain in my feeling that he deserved to still be a part of the community. In any case, RIP. :rip:

That ban announcement post was misleading, the first time I saw it it said temp ban, I would have never spoken up.

I wonder what his reaction was. We need like eulogies for deceased members. A thread dedicated to the final rant of each person after being told they are perma banned. If nothing else it would be hilarious.

Edit: also it might help stop people making smurf accounts to rant.

I think BAP had already been doing a lot of this stuff before you became active again, ESC. And yes, we're talking about months and months of repeating this rant over and over and over. And he was never listening nor trying to understand the other side.

The obsession became a type of passive aggressive proselytizing.

I keep suspecting I'll be getting an e-mail from him at some point today. *doh*

That. It 'twas obsession that killed the BAP.

Apologies to all. We should have publicized the amended ban more properly but we dropped the ball on that one.

As for eulogies, I'll just settle for more of Base groove's BAP impersonation.

That should be a stated forum rule as people have been banned for it before and in all likelihood will be banned for it again.

Alright so the behavior is there, but the motive is not. Passive-aggressive towards whom/what and why? (Please anyone don't speculate, if you are sure you know then speak up, but I don't intend to invite speculative blame).

I haven't seen anything worth banning since I have been around. Am I missing something? Yes he made threads about the mods but I did not see a bunch of derails in that regard, nor could I see any reason to take his questioning as personal.

WHAT IS GOING ON HERE! Have I been asleep and missed everything or has the world going crazy?

It can be hard to deal with people always questioning your motives and having to defend yourselves at every turn. It is a struggle for those who lead to deal with such things but it is inevitable. It is why I respect those in authority much of the time. Presidents, police, etc... under constant criticism and even hated for what they represent to those who hate authority.

I do believe BAP questions were sincere and well intentioned. I do not believe them a product of hate or a deliberate attack. I believe he only had trouble understanding and see eye to eye. There were times where he showed a since of respect to authority but often his questions came forth and hid this from plain view.

Yes, he had certain social inhibitions that prevented him from understanding certain things or acting in a specific fashion that would be considered appropriate without need for a written rule but this was not a conscious and deliberate act but one of social inadequacies. I can only imagine what would happen on the INTPf if we were banned for social inadequacies...

I believe this inadequacy was mostly in the form of knowing boundaries in pursuit of understanding. When does the pursuit become inappropriate?

Perhaps his attachment to this forum was too strong and that was what pushed him further than he should have gone. I can only imagine that with his post count and the time he has spent here that he feels a small ownership, large responsibility, and duty to how this forum has formed and where it goes. His actions would seem to indicate this.

This is not his role but it is a feeling derived of much time contributed and sacrificed in these threads. The amount of time he has spent here and the all the effort he put into his thoughts and posted in these threads is likely to be a cause of much grief when his time here has come to an end.

Grayman, the fact you and many of us are still hear shows that the forum is pretty tolerant of social inadequacies. It's not like there's an impossibly high standard being pursued here. You'd do better to address why this particular person was banned for what kinds of behaviors and the length of time that these behaviors had persisted.

Maybe you're not aware of them, if you weren't around or if posts got moved. We're talking about a guy so obsessive that he even started writing to me off the forum (he guessed at my e-mail address) and I had to stop conversing from my end because he was invading my privacy.

I thought that a glitch in the system soemtime back when sending private messages. He managed to send an email to me awhile ago. It would seem impossible to guess my name from my username. I am not certain how he did it unless maybe he had admin rights at one time. I think it was near my join date before I left for half a year.

I believe if you go to my profile and click "contact" under my picture and then click "send an email it to this user", it will reveal your email address.

BAP did this to me and it revealed his personal email. I don't know the details of how this works...

It appears the feature has either been removed or it was never there to begin with.

Why is this so complicated? BAP specifically said in his e-mail to me that he "guessed at my e-mail address." he didn't find it on this site. he guessed it, like I said earlier. He explicitly said so.

Are you getting paid a stipend to defend him or something?

Just trying to figure out how he got my email too but I figured it out. You can accidently give out your email even if you don't have it posted anywhere by accidently clicking "Send Email" instead of "Send private message". Even if you don't reveal your email and have blocked emails from other members, INTPf will send a message to the persons inbox with your email address on the message.

Well I did get a read receipt request from him once, it is something that reports the time the message was received and the recipient's IP address. I've had another suspicious request a long time ago from a new account.

I think it is a security issue because not everyone has encountered read receipts before and know what they do.

I follow the evidence and right now, from what I have witnessed, BAP is just the victim of a witch hunt. I don't want to believe this as it would mean I have lost faith in this forum but I need evidence to the contrary that would shift my views.

BAP guessing your email is not that concerning to me. I find the idea of guessing your email kind of fun, personally. He has not shown any obsession in PMing me and guessing your email is not really a sign of stalking unless it is coupled with him contacting you even though you asked him not to.
