Is our knowledge of physics wrong, or is the world wrong?

^ Pfft.

Reality doesn't have to make sense if it is. The test is inconclusive yet anyway.

Einstein gonna be p***ed though.

As I understand it, the problem isn't travelling at the speed of light, it's accelerating to the speed of light.

(I'm positive the researchers involved understand that, but I don't think the article made it clear.)

The speed of light can be treated as a constant if you are a given degree under the speed of light, but if you are faster than light to begin with, there's no need.

It's just that the stuff we usually measure is essentially made from light, and since light has less resistance than any structure of light, speeds only get slower.

I find it respectable that they are wanting the community of scientists to try and explain their findings.

Though I won't even bother reading the blogs, there is always some basement self-proclaimed genius that has their opinion on everything.

I am looking forward to finding out what the scientific community discovers here. I have always been suspicious of the speed limit for various reasons but of course I am not knowledgeable enough to really make a real reason.

If this is real, I wonder if the VSL theory will be made useless?

It's possible that, like the Lorentz Transformation and the impact it had on Einstein's thinking, that there is some modification to current relativity equations that are otherwise really, really hard to notice given the current paradigm.

Heck, picking up on the problem with the addition of velocities in Newton's system could have evaded us almost forever, given that we simply don't move fast enough to ever notice the "correct" formulae.

Who knows. Lots of interesting stuff here. It's always possible there's just an error that we haven't noticed yet and the neutrinos weren't moving any faster than the speed of light after all.

What sense would it make for a neutrino to be able to travel faster than light?

In our realm of existence, light is fastest and it only makes sense. There may be particles that we are unable to detect that travel faster than light, but they play no part in our existence seeing as they are in another dimension of time and space than humans.

Is it wrong, as a scientist, to be (not so) secretly yearning for a central part of physics to be thrown into chaos? Because I really would love to see the chaos.

On the other hand, I'll stay skeptical both about "physics as it stands" being "correct" in the more complete sense, and that this will "overturn" much of anything. Even if I'd like it to.

Thank you for bringing the article, digital angel, I had been waiting for more news on the subject.
