I fit pretty much all of the Schizoid characteristics.
However, over at Schizoids.net they told me Aspies cannot be Schizoids.
The groups are apparently mutually exclusive.

I have never felt sympathy or empathy. I relate very much with my avatar in the sense that I like to think of myself as having a clear and rational mind over muddled emotions.

Yes, "Schizoid" sounds badass.

I don't think being "scary" is an absolutely necessary attribute... then again nobody has ever had a deep conversation with me twice, the whole "I doubt the nature of reality" thing tends to freak them out.

That's why I like this place, here our weirdness is the norm.

It seem that Schizoid Personality Disorder is the only one that doesn't seem like a disorder to me. Unlike most, if not all other personality disorders, it doesn't appear to necessarily prevent one from being happy or content. Unlike those who suffer from Avoidant PD, Schizoids simply don't want to form close relationships. So, unlike Avoidants, they aren't necessarily suffering from their "disorder". If anything, the suffering may be of those around them who are disappointed that their expectations aren't being met by the Schizoid.

But no, I don't think I'm Schizoid. I may be mildly Avoidant though.

Anyway, what do you all think about the relation between introversion and being schizoid? I'm extremely introverted, yet I still don't have too many schizoid characteristics. I'm not indifferent to criticism, my level of withdrawal seems to be based more on mood than anything, and I prefer solitude in moderation.

Tomorrow I am driving to my hometown to stay with my parents. Typically I look forward to this trip. Now I am dreading it. Why? Well, usually it's just my parents, me, and my kids. They watch my kids and I spend considerable amounts of time... alone. Once or twice I'll meet up with a friend.

This time my brother and his family will be there as well as a nephew of another sibling (I am the youngest of six). I will have to be social most of the time and it's freaking me out. Combine that with the fact that I have to pack and plan for my trip and all I want to do is climb back into bed and hide under the covers.

And this is my family. I haven't seen my brother in a year. And I like my brother- he's an all right individual.

I'm not schizoid, I don't think (although I as well love to say the word), but all of this impending socialization makes me want to hide in a cave and subsist on berries and shoots.

Okay, just read the schizoid entry and wikipedia and there is a substantial amount I can relate to, especially the covert aspect.

I actually have it on my psych notes that I am a schzoid. I asked about it and my psychiatristv told me that i don't seem interested in other peoples lives, being part of other peoples lives, I show little understanding of other peoples feelings and that even when i am with people, i am still alone. I sufer alot with depersonalisation and tend to just not be able to connect with people when around them, I feel as if I am hallucination or something, like they aren't really there. I get confused when this happens.

Actually that fits me more than schizoid:

Schizotypal avoid social interaction because of a deep-seated fear of people. The schizoid individuals simply feel no desire to form relationships, because they quite literally see no point in sharing their time with others.

I can relate to the former, I can't relate to the latter. I could relate to this from the wikipedia schizoid description though:

pervasive tension between the anxiety-laden need for attachment, and the defensive need for distance

I've always felt a tension between needing to have connections with people, but also needing distance, although that I guess might be just introversion.

Somewhat. It seems like it's in between Schizoid and Avoidant, which would explain its comorbidity with other PDs. I can relate to parts of it, but I would say my social anxiety is more situational than deep-seated or based on paranoid delusions. I also couldn't figure out if I have "odd thinking and speech". I mean, what INTP hasn't engaged in those?

hmmm, I have those, but they are fleeting and only happen occasionally. The article doesn't specify how often a Schizotypal has them, only that they have them. I also wouldn't say I "believe" events are of special reference to me; only that I entertain that notion a little too seriously at times.

I think I'm schizotypal. It sounds INTP, more so than schizoid (which seems INTJ to me).

And seriously. I believe INTPs exhibit less "stereotyped thinking" than most others.

i don't know about shizoid or schitzotypal, but i'm almost certain that i have Tourette's Syndrome. beside my compulsion to have to have things feel symmetrical, i also am constantly moving my jaw or head back and forth to relieve a perceived feeling of discomfort in my neck, and i clear my throat and breathe out in weird patterns a lot. i compulsively crack my knuckles (hands, toes, neck and my back) and blink my eyes in strange ways (if it feels like i blinked one side 'harder' then the other, i have to blink the other eye a second time to even it out). i scratch my noes and chin a lot when i'm nervous or anxious (happens a lot when i'm in large groups or amongst people i don't know). i'm an incredibly restless sleeper, always tossing and turning, and i constantly shift position while sitting.

I have become more and more introverted over the past few months, to the point where it's difficult to socialise or interact and I find myself less and less able to feel affect. Coupled with a strong desire to be not only extroverted, but crazy extroverted like Casanova or Dean Moriarty, I guess it's no wonder why I got some bad anxiety.

In hindsight, I had social anxiety in mid to late high school, from late high school to early 20s I was avoidant, last year going towards schizotypal and now I fear at 25 I might be becoming schizoid. I guess this would be in keeping with Jung's apparent theory that people tend to become more introverted as they get older.

Well, I've decided that all of my current problems in life are basic fears, besides procrastination. The thing is, the Enneagram gives you positive ways to resolve basic fears. So if you can identify which basic motivator you've encountered that is in a negative cycle, causing your schizoidishness, the system gives you a way to positively resolve it.

As soon as I figured this out, pretty much all of my anxiety surrounding my issues have evaporated because I've discerned how to resolve them. I've not achieved the desired outcomes yet, hence my fear of procrastination, but if I can overcome that, my life will be on cruise control for the next few years.

Just reading through this site: http://www.schizoid.info. It's the most comprehensive and interesting info I've read about schizoid personality disorder on the web.

Gee I can relate to a lot of it, particularly the part abotu how time is the enemy when it comes to socialising/connecting with other people. Time catches up with them. That's often been my experience - I can sustain an interaction for a while, but it's basically in a sttae of slow decline as soon as it begins, that's how it feels anyway, and eventually the convo runs out of fuel and I'm sitting there like an idiot. I think, according to their classification, I am a light schizoid, or perhaps an INTP with schizoid tendencies due to depression.
