I've noticed few INTPs use posting themes. All the same, I feel like talking about it and I feel like putting this thread here, in the lounge.

Let's discuss (or post) posting themes and signature colors (not signatures).

I've decided to randomly use "antique gold". I wish it better went with my avatar, but the problem being not many darker colors stand out on a dark background.

Yes, if that's the aspect you wish to discuss. It's a general discussion, a free for all, as long as it's relevant to the topic. Savvy?

...so the topic is, that there isn't a topic, this is a post-modern mind screw then?

I wonder how long it'll be before Arena material pops up in this thread. :P

And s'cuse me, I've been using a posting theme ever since I joined this forum. I've just gotten lazy lately, that's all. >.>

I read somewhere that the color orange is supposed to be especially appealing to males.

I also read somewhere that I fucking hate Comic Sans. What a stupid font.

Yeah, I think I'll stick with good ol' Verdana.

Although, if I ever want everything I type to look like confidential statistical data, I'll use this one. Is it even possible to tell a joke in this font?

The orange makes me... hungry?
Otherwise, nothing.

*imagines an orange bikini*
hmmMMmmm, I take it back, orange is appealing.

Ha, well... after Chimera, I guess the spotlight is on me, isn't it? :D

I watched the forum for a couple weeks before I joined because I was trying to decide what kind of appearance / self-expression I was going to carry when I joined... The larger part of that was deciding my profile name, but some of it was thinking about a formatting style...

Chimera was posting a bunch when I first joined, so I noticed how difficult it was to mix up which posts were Chimera's with anyone else's and I really appreciated the effect. It's hard to speculate, but I might not have adopted one if it weren't for the inspiration to follow... although I expect I do so for very different reasons.

* * * * *

Personally, when I'm reading something - I like it when writers take the trouble to make their piece communicate as easily and effectively as possible... For example, when I've had to draw diagrams for shows, I color code the hell out of them... When I look at a tangle of information, I want the particular detail I'm after to be instantly accessible.

I try to do the same thing with my posts, really. When someone scrolls down and comes across a post of mine, they probably don't even need to glance at the name or avatar to know who wrote it. You can also tell in an instant if I'm quoting from somewhere outside the forum because of the color change.

It's also convenient for me because it helps me to scan very quickly to where I left off. Beyond that, sometimes it helps me find moments I'm being quoted because (some of the time), that quote shows up in my style, too.

It certainly does take some extra time to implement, though. On my longer, complicated posts, it can take a few minutes to format them correctly. I think it's worth the effort, though.

I guess, for most posters here, it isn't something that is worth the effort. On other forums, I'm sure styles are adopted for a reason of artistic flair, as in 'look how creative I am', which I guess isn't a strongly compelling impulse here.

Unfortunately, there are only a finite amount of combinations available, so if mass adoption ever occurred, there would be complications of redundancies down the road... Particularly for anyone using a forum theme aside from the default 'Dark Castle'.

My posts used to look like this.

I liked it 'cause it was easy to spot and simple and stuff like that. Maybe I should start doing something like it again.
of course, I would have to post more for it to be noticed....

Yes@Chimera posting more :D

I agree that a good layout can help the reading flow. That being said, i'm pretty lazy about it, and usually only try to order it by

putting enters in between thought-groups :p

I always really liked Chimera's themes. I've thought about using this color before.. maybe I should.

But I probably won't.

It takes like 15 seconds to format a post a bit, Oggy. :c
and I'll post more if I want to. :P

Waterstiller;;
I like that color for you. :3
It definitely would be cool to see less grayscale around the forum (although I like this layout, don't get me wrong.)

Well, Chimera, i don'T use Dark Castle, so all non-formatted writing is in a yellow/golden colour, not gray...I find it nice that way ;)

*applauds for Sapphire*
I think someone understands what talking about post theme is about.

And Android actually made me laugh. Though I find that avatar appalling. Can't he be killing a dog or something?

What does post theme accomplish and is it nice to be recognizable by it? In some large forums it's important to popular posters to have a theme and signature that defines them.

If I were to use a font, it would be High Tower. It's a little more difficult to read than Arial. I kind of like the idea of making my font bigger. I like to think people know my posts by their content... *shrugs*

Humm... On my screen (I just tried it with the preview thing) most of the fonts look the same...
I tend to not use a posting theme mainly because I'm lazy =P Although I have to say, along with signatures, they came in handy when my laptop broke and I was only able to get online with my Ipod for a couple weeks. I'd have to zoom in quite far to read the text properly, so I wouldn't always see the avatar or the name, which meant it always took me a couple seconds of sliding the screen so that I could see who had posted what. (It was much easier if there was a distinctive style to the posts)

Besides, in my view, a posting theme is in other ways than a colour and a font, quite a lot of the time, the style of writing helped me guess too, so I think of that as a theme of a person's posts as well.

I might decide on a theme to my posts now :phear: But I'll have to stop myself from using Quick Reply for the shorter posts first =P

I guess I should take a bow, or some thing like that...? Thank you, Zero.

When I was experimenting out my style, I found you have to be careful with what you do, not all systems will support even the twenty or so fonts provided by the editor. (Saffy's computer, for instance.)

I use Book Antiqua, myself... which actually shrinks down the visual appearance of the font, so it has to bump up to size two. I was trying to use Garamond for a while, but that shrinks it even further down, requiring a size three. However, when viewed on a machine without Garamond, it just snaps back to Verdana - and size three in that font is an eye-sore.

And, of course... there are those weird people who don't use the Dark Castle forum style... Only those deviants and deities know what they see.

Actually, the posts with layout look the same (only of course that the others themes are not width-fixed). ;)

Hmm, I hadn't thought about the forum theme. I forgot you could change it. I use the default.

Lost, after wandering irresponsibly away from the
I might adopt a theme at some point. I'm too lazy to set one up due to plain old procrastination and the reason Sapphire mentioned. It is really helpful to be able to recognise people's posts just from their themes right now with the computer setup I have: sometimes I have to scroll left or right just to read the posts, never mind see the avatars.

(I agree that some people don't need a theme. Noddy is completely fine without one, for instance. He's recognisable. )

Uggg this is making me realize that certain colors on certain backgrounds really mess with my eyes. In some cases I find myself struggling to focus on the text, and it can be hard to read (for example that purple on the dark gray really messes with my focus for some reason), and other times there's a weird illusionary 3D effect that happens (red on a dark background does this a lot, especially if it's next to blue).
