Perils of Shaving

Shaving my face has been pissing me off for the past 8 years probably. I have calculated every possible way to shave that my human mind can think of. Every type of razor I find and buy fails.

This morning really annoyed me. Oddly enough these damn razors just leave hair on my face, not extended, but it is still there. In all freaking directions and angles.

I am posting this merely in the hopes that someone has had similar problems with shaving and found a solution I am overlooking other than the obvious route that I tend to use, which is not shaving. Does anyone else become extremely annoyed with shaving?

If I didn't find facial hair annoying to let grow out I wouldn't even be posting this haha.

1) Make sure you shower thoroughly. The cleaner your skin is, the easier it is to shave.
2) Buy sensitive skin shaving cream, and give it about five minutes to soak in.
3) Shave once with the grain, and a second time against.

I find that the shaving cream/foam etc. that you use makes more of a difference than the razor.

I prefer using gel-type shaving stuff like this:

I would recommend not shaving every day, unless you really have to. I've noticed that I get a much better shave after two or three days of growth than if I shave every day.

I've been shaving once a week for the past three year or so. Monday morning my face is nice and smooth. By Friday, I look like Indiana Jones coming off a three-day bender.

Anyway the old cut-throat razors are great if you have the patience to master them, they do a better job than safety razors and they make doing the edges of your facial hair/sideburns so much easier. In fact it could just be that your razor isn't sharp enough, which is why I don't advocate using those multi-bladed safety razors, not only are they useless but if you're changing the blades roughly once a week they can be pretty uneconomical too.

^You're certain to look really cool. Those things scare the crap out of me. I don't know how the men throughout history were capable of letting others get so close to their necks with those things. I guess that's why you have a trusted manservant.

I've known many men who couldn't shave because their hair is naturally curly and they get covered in horrible, painful, infected ingrown hairs if they shave. I don't really see the need to keep your face clean shaven constantly other than it feels nice in not-itchy sort of way. Oh, and for various activities that involve masks.

Many of these guys opt to keep a very closely trimmed beard if they are younger and a carefully sculpted full beard when they are older.

Shaving legs really isn't like shaving your face though shaving...*ahem*...other areas isn't that different. I have to admit I've never understood that particular fashion trend.

Electrolyses and or laser. Consider the amount of time you spend on this...it will be good investment. Besides, close shaving ruins your skin.

^Aha! I've discovered that through careful trimming one finds one does not need to actually shave. Long unkempt beards are unappealing but well tended ones can be attractive. Besides, being completely bare of any sort of fuzz seems horribly juvenile when it comes to beards...of any sort.

Cake, not only would that defeat the purpose of attempting to avoid the "Perils of Shaving", it would smell absolutely horrible. Can you really imagine subjecting yourself to the stench of burning hair on a monthly basis? Not to mention, the pain of burning flesh if you're not incredibly careful...

Yes, and I plan on continuing to even after I'm no longer in the military. I'm very familiar with my face, and even if I had the ability to grow a decent beard (I don't, which is reason enough to shave), I look more appealing without one.

That doesn't look like a good idea. There's no period of uncertainty.

Try a DE safety razor if you haven't tried it before.
Proper preparation is half the job. Let it soak, well. Don't use canned goo, use a proper shaving cream instead.

Shaving can be quite enjoyable with the right tools.

Personally I use a straight razor, and let it grow for months between each time I shave it off completely. There's something strangely liberating about going from an inch of beard to nothing in just a few minutes, and being left with a completely smooth result.

I'm with anthile, seriously. Get an electric razor. They're quite cheap too, if you consider all the blades and creams you need with other types of razors, or with any other method to shave, really. Do it after a shower that leaves red like a lobster and it shouldn't even leave a trace. Maybe if you're really hairy then it might still leave your face a little darker than a perfect close shave but hey, it's cheap and fast!

I haven't shaved regularly for about half a year now. When I do, I usually just trim using an electric shaver I borrow from my brother. Now I have gotten so used to see my stupid face with some hair on it that the few times I shave it all off it kinda looks weird. So now I'm in a dilemma; wether to continue the occasional trimming trend or wether to shave it all off ones a week like I did before.
I hate it as I have no clue how to style facial hair. Well, at least society don't have it upon me to shave my legs like most girls do. I really don't envy you girls that.

And that is why I try to only buy German things. But sometimes the currency problem arises.

You may want to give it a try with a decent razor, it will take you some time to learn how to shave .. I sometimes use it myself.
And keep a steaming hot washing cloth or little towel near you after you've finished and before putting on aftershave.
