Greetings, i'm a 23 year old intp male who found this forum seeking like minded folks like myself. I guess you can say i've grown bored with other types, and since i only know 1 other intp in personal life, i'd like to interact with more of them :)

I chose the name Panopticon, because I got it from an ISIS album titled that. In addition, i think it describes my personality in some ways. Feels like my role in life has been to quietly observe the big picture around me while remaining within, completely unnoticed by the ones I observe. And since I see people as economic slaves and prisoners of their own minds, i think it fits. :D

I hope to learn from you guys

Panopticon- "Observer of All"

Right. I was wondering what it meant, but could only divine that "pan" means "all" (or "bread" in Spanish).

Yes. I would assuredly say that most other MBTI types seem bland or superficial, with the notable exceptions of INFx's and INTJ's sometimes. Hm. I have a special place in my heart for INFJ's because they fascinate me.

You're lucky to know one...

me gusta el pan tambien.

I recently dated an INFP. she's cool. I also got an friend that is an INTJ thats loud and seems irrational as hell to me sometimes. But at the same time she is still very open minded so shes not as unwavering as she seems. i think i may have met one entj in my life. female. we both felt a good personal vibe together, or friendship i'd say, cuz she was married. girls like her are fascinating to talk to, but i can see the potential conflict.

I have recently read about the INFJ.....very interesting indeed. Until that point i was under the impression that intp was the rarest type, guess not. I would love to meet one.

I hate to break it to ya but there is nothing special about them. They are the same decaying organic matter like everyone else.

Welcome to the forum.

Isn't ENTJ an INTP's dual in MBTI? I think so.

I doubt I know an INFJ in real life... but they are interesting.

As ProxyAmenRa said, however, there is nothing special about INFJ's. But t,here is, perhaps, something special about the individuals which compose the INFJ population. :D

I was thinking that too! Then I found out it's Spanish. Anyway welcome to the forum said Mush who thought it was Tricepticon's brother once removed. I'm not too big on making intros because I can't ever think of what to say. So I don't make one. But I like reading other peoples sometimes,to see how they start it off and what they include in it. It's kind of same for me as seeing how other people start off a book, what they write as the first line. I can never figure out how to start things off so I think it's interesting to see how other people do it.

Aw well what I meant to say is that I love eating decaying matter (human mostly)and I would love to taste all flavors.

Thank you.

Yeah entj is indeed the INTP dual. I've had lots of fun with a female of that type but the thought of living and being with one of them would really be annoying after a while. I enjoy my freedom....this chick divorced her guy cuz he sat around too much lol. yeah she would love me hahaha.

I think I may know an INFJ but obviously its not for me to decide. I just have a friend who's bad with money, and he has the occasional "spidey sense" about things. We always laugh at him and call him a superhero.....because he's always looking out for people and helpful as heck with anything u ask of him.

Ah, it's been about five months since I covered the topic of the panopticon.

I thought it was a rather lovely idea, but much better suited to futuristic dystopian horror stories than real life application.

The problem with such a concept is, while the man in the middle can see the prisoners, the prisoners can see the man in the middle.

No use in being watched if you know 'when' you're being watched.

Or at least thats what I argued at the time.

You should read some of Foucault's work. He uses the panopticon as a metaphor to describe what he believes is a new form of disciplinary power that is pervasive in contemporary society. It is a type of power in which people act upon themselves based on behavioural norms (which are established as such through specific types of knowledge - e.g. psychology, sociology)

In much the same way as a prsioner behaves himself even if he doesn't know whether anyone is actually in the panopticon, Foucault argues that 'modern' humans have internalised norms and regulate their own behaviour accordingly.

Or at least thats what I argued at the time.

In Jeremy Bentham's design, the observer was in a building that shielded him from being seen. I cannot remember if the glass was tinted or stained but, whatever, the point was that the prisoners were never sure if they were being watched. They could notice that they were always in the view of the tower but could not know if the observer was watching them.

This is what Foucault latched onto as an idea.

To this point. Yesterday I had to sit through an orientation at a power plant and during it visitors are told what to do in case of emergency, etc. At one point the movie tells us that we are not allowed to take pictures of the plant, even with phone cameras, without permission. Then a moment of silence. Then: there are cameras covering every area of the power plant. Then on to the next subject.

That is the idea of the panopticon. You know that there are observer cameras all the time but you never know if anyone is looking at that screen or is in the bathroom or is reading a book. The chance you might get caught is usually enough to curb bad behavior.
