EDIT: had forgot to mention that it is 100% free. it also takes about 1 full hour initial download/install/update, and then after that, updates only take 5-10 minutes and happen about once a month.


this is a very different feeling game. if you have ever played DotA it is supposed to be similar.
basically it is a 5v5 online multiplayer battle arena, with warcraftish graphics (i believe blizzard was involved in the making of it, not just Riot)
you all start of in a match at level one, and the goal is to kill the other teams base ("nexus"), but you have to work across tons of little minions and turrets to get there, and your character levels up (its not an mmo, there are only 5 people per team, and each "match" starts you off at level 1 with level 18 cap) and your champion has 4 different abilities you can use (there are 43 champions now - you pick which one you will use before each match)
after each match, you get more "ip" points, which you can spend on purchasing different champions (they try to make them all balanced, but its more fun to have more to choose from)
and you earn "xp" after each battle for your account, and when you level up you get to put points into masteries (VERY slightly improve your champion in game)

this is probably the game with the most re-playability i have played in a good long time..

(and no, im not just doing this for referrals, you have to reach summoner level 10 in order for me to get any rewards for inviting you, and you arent going to make it to level 10 unless you truly like the game)

I just discovered this game about a week ago and have grown quite fond of it. None of my friends play though, so I feel like I miss out on the strategy aspect of the game as the PUGs are very often lacking in that respect. It may get better as you level up, I'm only lvl 11 now.

It's not just new players. Just mess up or play badly or even play well and get beaten in your lane by someone better than you and a lot of the time someone will be angry. Not every time, but a lot more than most other online games.

I think the problem is that games are long, teams are small and one player's performance has a more direct impact on other players than in other games. If you get killed the other team gets stronger, because they get gold and experience from doing so.

I take this back (the part about staying clear), I'm addicted. I'm hadoblado if anyone wants to play. Do all intp's prefer AP characters or is that just chance? I like playing all sorts of characters just so I can learn all the items and uses, but all my most played characters are AP.

I believe gragas is mostly played as a squishy AP nuker, whereas blitz is some sort of off-tank support dps. I guess you could say he's got his own role.

Easily my favorite champ to play, though. He's just too much fun. Especially if you got a few friends to coordinate with.

i'm at least a little bit addicted to this game. summoner level 18 i believe, and i've been playing rumble the most lately.

i bought gragas but just couldn't get very into him, but i guess i don't like skill shots too much. or at least i didn't when i bought him (still a noob). i was thinking of saving for cassiopeia next, but she seems pretty difficult. maybe kennen. i love yordles, it seems. bought rumble after a pretty lengthy bought of playing nothing but teemo.

excellent game. i even caved and bought a skin for rumble -- rumble in the jungle. still no regrets, it's a cool skin and it's free to play so it feels more like a donation than anything.

btw, my summoner name is beepmachine. i pretty much accept all friend invites so yeah. if you want to play i also have a vent channel i play with a couple friends on, makes it much easier to be successful when you communicate using more than those annoying pings.

My cousins introduced me to LoL and recommended I start with Warwick. So far the only champions I consider myself good in are Warwick, Kayle and Tristana, the ones I've played the most so far. However I do not want to buy another champion until I have mastered all champions I own right now (that leaves Ryze, Amumu and Alistar) and I don't want to start with another champion until I have most of the Runes necessary.

Also, I'm on a 13 (or 14?) win-streak right now.

@shoeless: Are you still in Gemany? If so, why aren't you on EU-W?

I bought Gragas and he is amazing. He is highly sustainable, durable and mobile, with ridiculously powerful spells (I tend to be taking off a third of a squishy's hp with a single non-committal nuke), and game breaking positional play. He has great farming abilities and quite high ap co-efficients on his Q and R (0.9 and 1.0 I believe). I'm no pro, being in triple digit elo, but when I play Gragus I'm generally winning my lane 1v2 at top.
The only weakness I can think of with Gragus is that he does not have high in-fight sustainability, you will start your fight with a burst and then be waiting on your seven(ish) second cooldowns to do anything more.

I tried out Blitz when he was free but I find him difficult to lane with. He is undeniably powerful, but justifying building a creep score to your new found team mates in solo que is near impossible, so you end up unfed and underpowered. I'd definitely love to run him in a predesigned team tho .

There is truth to this. I get an early philosopher's stone to help mitigate the low creep score and to sustain better in lane. Laning with a friend also helps quite a bit.

Really though, I don't even play LoL unless my friends are on. It's amazing how much more fun it is, even if it's just two of you.

I think a team of INTPs would be fucking amazing. We would discuss the theory behind the game and develop fucking cool strategies.

They would probably fail a lot of times but I think it would be good.

If we could have five different MBTI types to play a Dota/LoL type game, would types would you pick?

I would say INTP, INTJ, maybe an INFP to keep everyone calm, an ENTP to keep everything lighthearted, and probably another INTP just to develop ideas even further.

In a videogame setting - no need for ESTJ/ENTJ to be the leader. Communication and teamwork is key, and having a dictator is no good I've found for actually making good, proper decisions on an individual basis.

Whatever be the player types, they'd have to cooperate and learn to work in an orderly fashion. It's easy to bring a bunch of skilled players together, but without practice and knowing one another's weak spots, it's pretty much luck if they cooperate well.

This is obvious in public vs pre-made games, where even weaker pre-made teams have the advantage of roaming together, instead of being picked off one by one because they are so cocky.

On a serious note though, I will admit that DotA is possibly the most unforgiving team game ever made for novice players. Both in terms of learning curve and community. The first 5-6 months of playing the game are pretty much trial and error. The penalty for poor positioning and awareness (the hardest and most important part of the game) is 10x more severe than in LoL. Losing gold from deaths, denies etc. all serve to make the game that much more difficult for novices. Not to mention that most PUG teams won't ward the map, making it even more difficult to see incoming ganks.

As for the community, yeah it's awful. No two ways about it. Newcomers will be abused probably every single game they play. Unless they end up laning with a strong player who controls the lane for them with denies and harassment so that they can farm relatively easily, they'll be under-farmed or under-levelled (or both) and feed.

However the game is far more rewarding once you've mastered it. Competitive play in DotA has unbelievable depth and potential for creativity.

I don't mind PUG games as a veteran player either. Depending on picks I either play hard-lane (so that my team-mates don't feed and I can deny the enemy carry/solo and gank neutrals) or I pick a strong solo mid carry/semi-carry and carry the team to victory. There are plenty of bad PUG games, but also a lot of good ones.

Before this season is over I plan on getting 1700 elo at least, but I need a good duo partner that can carry with me. I can carry hard as AD Carry, and good AP mid. It's the retards that I'm teamed up with that I keep losing, who don't really know the difference between normal and objective.

Play passive, focus cs, know your enviroment, know which items to build to the enemy team specs, Know when to engage and when to stop, etc.

Or the usual guys who are like "why are you backdooring?" then you look at the map and you've killed the only tower...

Also, the entire game works on the ELO system, so despite you getting matched with randoms is awful and well, it happens, your elo should get you to somewhat alike people.

Obviously if you go lots of normals, then go into ranked, ... yeah. My ranked games are nowhere near as satisfying as my normal ones, whether I lose or not, it feels pubstomp.

yes... I played heaps of aram when it came out. Dominion though I don't like as much though. I think I need a different game to get addicted to though at least temporaly as I can't play it solo anymore. I might play the sw mmo when it goes ftp or mwo when it comes out.
