I'm turning 21 on the 2nd two days from today. Problem is I don't know what to do to celebrate. I don't have any real friends so I'm not going out with anybody. I guess I'm just going to buy a drink, get some weed and get super intoxicated. I get high all the time though and I don't feel like I'm really celebrating like I "should" be. My parents are confused that I don't have any plans but it's because I really don't know what to do. I don't want to go to a bar by myself (and wouldn't even know where to start looking for a good one).

I want to know what any of you do for your birthdays and more specifically for your 21st birthday. Any suggestions as to what I should do? And again, I don't have any friends unfortunately.

Go on yelp/foursquare(?) look for a bar. Attempt to talk to a cute girl there?

Have fun?

Getting high wouldn't be my first suggestion but hey do whatever makes you happy, for my 21st I got dragged off to a holiday resort by my mother and a friend of hers (yeah I'm so cool) only to try chatting up one girl that was attending a wedding there, I got about as far as hello before she practically ran off, I then got sick and spent the rest of the time alternatively sweating in bed, spewing in a bucket and sitting on the toilet moaning in pain.

If there was a gun on that island I would have shot myself.

I think I might go to a bar next weekend where it won't look so strange coming by myself. I'm not exactly a player but I can hold my own with girls. I just lean on good looks, definitely not my irresistible charm. I just need to prepare myself for all the girls I'm going to strike out on.:D A little booze'll help out with that though.

I bought a bottle of Jack Daniels. Don't you ever do that. I mean it. Jack Daniels is the worst. Gives you terrible gut rot.

Seriously.

Don't.

Victims of our alcohol-obsessed culture who feel the need to get intoxicated in celebration. Are you so weak-minded that just spending your birthday partaking in a favorite recreational activity while sober is lame to you and makes you unhappy? Happiness is where you make it, it is truly a sad state to be in to require a mind-altering substance or a wild party to be happy.

Lol. Problem is, I hate the whole party celebration idea. However, I also love women. One can usually find single ladies in clubs, bars etc. Therein lies the dilemma. It's certainly not lame to me, but most girls probably would find that lame, thus lowering my chances of getting laid. Also mind-altering substances are just fun to me. I love the creative boost I get from weed and I smoke because I just like smoking. Sad to see another person putting a measure on happiness. BTW I'm not weak-minded just well-rounded. Maybe I don't want to spend the rest of my days as a cynical, bitter, genius hermit angry at society.

The way I see it you are just as extreme as the party-going, popularity-seeking drones in this monkey see monkey do society. The point is: Live a little.

What about your relatives? You could call up one of your cousins or something.

You can party in Las Vegas, go skydiving, go to a 21+ club event.. etc

Staying at home is alright though too.

I spent my 21st at home. I had some friends over and started a bonfire. My older brother made sure to make my drinks extra strong, without my knowing. I atleast hit the 21 drink on your 21st, bad idea. I didn't even real drink before I was 21. I had been drunk before, but I just didn't drink. Later that night my friend showed up with some of his dad's moon shine in a Gatorade bottle, maybe a quarter full. I downed it in 4 drinks, at that point I was already so drunk I couldn't even taste it. I was after about the 6th drink I was Mr. Talkative. Literally the life of the party. Yes, shy little uber-introvert I was. I made sure to make a rule not to have any girls over. Why you might ask, because alcohol, me, and girls don't seem to ever work out well. Some how one(a girl) that I had never met before ended up showing up with her BF(also never met). Drunk minded me thought it would be a great idea to assault her crotch with my right hand. When her and her BF got mad I tried to pick a fight with him. He backed down knowing that he was surrounded by my friend. To this day I still haven't lived that down. People I don't even know tell it to each other.

Long story short, I drank to much:smoker:, acted an ass:storks:, then had a 2 day hang over:slashnew:; which I believe might be called alcohol poisoning. Don't repeat my night! Very embarrassed:slashnew:

I went to Vegas with my boyfriend. We both knew a lot of math, so we didn't gamble much. Maybe we lost $20 each. We weren't drinkers, either. I think I had one small sangría. We went to a show, some kind of follies, which was fun. We went swimming. All in all, a nice birthday.

I am not convinced that it must be celebrated with alcohol. Do that if you want. A bar is not necessary, though, unless you want to go to a bar.

Instead, is there something fun you never tried? I enjoyed my first visit to a shooting range (without, I point out, alcohol). You could go to one of those places where you can rent a racing car and learn how to drive something powerful. Try a hot air balloon, a biplane, or an ultralight flying lesson. If you can afford it, try a helicopter tour of anything, which is completely wonderful. Go to a play. Go for a memorable experience. Pick someone whose company you find congenial and invite them along. I've done all but the hot air balloon and racing car things for my own or other people's birthdays, and it is fun.

Don't worry about what you 'should' be doing, when it's based on bullshit that other people do.

My 21st birthday was about a week ago. I had some sangria with my mother and sister the night before, which was really the only celebrating I did. I quit smoking and stayed up all night being sad and miserable.

Later that week, I got my wisdom teeth pulled out. So now I'm re-celebrating (but not actually) alone by building up a little codeine tolerance.

My knee-jerk burning reaction is to devalue all meaning out of direct birthdays, graduations, etc. Wonder why that happened.

Just do whatever seems fun, and takes advantage of the opportunity. Any day.

Fuck birthdays and forced celebrations of all sorts. I don't remember what I did for my 21st, but I didn't do anything in particular for my 24th. Everyone was pressuring me about inviting them and what was I gonna do, I just told them to go fuck themselves. Then I spent the day in a hopeless protest in front of the city hall, ended up chatting with an interesting girl; but I told no one it was my birthday...

Fuck those false smiles and canned phrases... damn that day I came into this wretched existence

Yep. Days are days, who cares whether it's ones birthday or not?

Well, I can understand that for some people it's very important, though.

On my 20th I went to stay at my Gran's for a few days, she lives a good bit out from where I do.

On the actual day I went into the city. It was small and not very dense (it's like a retirement capital), full of old houses and tiny family businesses.

I walked around, got a train to another city, bought my siblings a present each, and looked around the shops and libraries, all the while listening to Pink Floyd/The Doors. I liked the travelling the most.

I spoke to no-one and never even had to mention my birthday. It was nice.

(Not sure what will happen for my 21st. Probably the warmest celebration I'll get is from this forum. Will probably stay in playing a Vita I've bought myself. :3)

And I entirely relate to the dilemma posed in the opening post.

I don't really have any proper friends, just a few work buddies that might approach me about it.

Yet I feel social pressure and a certain fear concerning my 21st.

Not so much I like parties (never been to one), or feel I need to commerate the day. I simply feel slightly conscious that things are expected of me,

And that I should probably at least try 'going out' before I'm so far removed from the spectrum that I become one of those forty something, anti-social, virgin professors.

I don't remember my 21st, but we threw a badass party for my wife (with about all 3 or 4 of our friends), lol. Drinks everywhere, music, hot tub, hotel room - it was great (until someone got too drunk and ruined the party).

The 21st birthday is probably the most important in life, so I would try to find something memorable to do. I'm a lame introvert with very few friends too, so I can't really be of any help when it comes to partying solo... lol

Can't say that I'm surprised by any of these answers. Thanks for the responses and I'll let you guys know how it went.

@Pizzabeak I don't have any real friends because I'm not in school and I don't work so I'm at home all the time. I don't have the resources to go make new friends (car money etc.) I'll be joining the Air Force in the Fall so making new friends won't be a problem.

OG, I'd try to speed up that admission date to the Air Force, if you can. The way things are going the military might be shrinking, or at least not growing, in the very near future. Get in while you can if that's what you want to explore. Between the need to reduce the military a tad and the very high number of people considering the military because there's no private sector jobs, you're in a competitive situation. Seize the moment if you can.

I just finished my army service, and made a few really good friends there, but now that we all got finished it's hard to stay in touch, and I'm heading towards the position you're in now...

Anyways, for my 21'st birthday I did nothing. I even changed my birthday on facebook so that no one would know it was my birthday. In fact I didn't do anything for my last three birthdays (although that could be attributed to my being in the army), I didn't even remember my 19th and 20th until people congratulated me.

Sup guys. I was gonna go and get some liquor this morning but I got so baked that I really didn't have the energy to get up and walk to the gas station lol. I'll probably smoke a lot less for the rest of the week and I'll get my alcohol tomorrow. So far the day has been pretty chill, right now I am in super crash mode.

@EditorOne, well I'm already in, I'm DEP right now. I'm just waiting for my ship out date and job which I figure will be sometime around the fall season.

I went go-karting on my birthday. The one before that was a midnight cruise to the beach.
