4 degrees celsius here. I feel like I'm eating 5 meals a day. Not to mention this cold I have :[

The best way to beat the cold is obviously to eat and drink lots.

So, if anyone of you would channel funds into my indiegogo account, I would gladly purchase and digest this meal for your pleasure.

And what gives, it isn't even snowing. Winter is freaking depressing.

When it gets in the -5 - -10 C range and lower, I'd consider it really cold. Are you living in one of those Japanese house with paper thin walls and no insulation? If so, my condolences.

It's like 15 C here today, but it was like 10 C the last week or so. I'm freezing too.

4 celsius? -15, -20 is what I'd call really cold. I found out It's close to impossible to breathe in lower than -20 temperatures and I didn't enjoy it (it hurts a lot like being cut inside the lungs), maybe there are some special techniques for it.

I agree, winter sucks; rhinorrhea, less sun, more heating expenses, muddy roads and walkways, sick and depressed people around, etc.

11'C here... Was freezzing the other night, and I was further south.
Dunno how the rest of the world cope with temps in the minus.
Noo thank you.

And how annoying is this, I'm in the Marley room, the only smoking room we're permitted, and the fucking SJ rules include window wide open; huge fan on.

I'm fucking freezing- when we stay in here for the whole evening, we can all be found hiding beneath about ten layers.

I was kinda being sarcastic. I remember Maine and Colorado winters being kinda brutal. But here, bordering the sub-tropics, it feels so much colder than it is.

Blizzard coming through here, just starting -- largest we've had for some years -- anywhere from 18-30" depending on where you live.

It was impossible to get near a store within the last 24 hours. The warning is to expect to stay wherever you are until Sunday/Monday. I don't see it as problematic unless I lose power. However, I have a full tank of gas and could feasibly recharge my phone in the car if necessary; heat-wise, I'd just stay in bed.

---

Coldest it got here this year so far was about 10F = -12C. The kind of bitter cold that hurts a bit even if there is no wind, and if there is wind, then any bare skin feels like it's being cut by a knife. But typically the coldest it's been here since I've lived here is probably around 0F = -18C. Our winter was mostly snowless last year, and "cold" winter temperatures are typically in the 20's F = which is around -5 to 0C.

So back to the OP, 4C? That's almost 40F. That's not cold! And I don't even live in a "cold" part of the US; Minnesota or Montana would be a lot more interesting.

Down to 5F here in the Poconos ("the land that God forgot") last week. I'm waiting for the same storm, we're on the northern edge of it, might get one inch, might get eight. No big deal. The woodstove is just pulsing with heat, the generator is ready to go and the snowblower is tuned up and ready to go up my very steep driveway. No pressure, I don't have to go anywhere until next week some time. :-) I'm enjoying the televised spectacle of folks milking the snowstorm for as much drama as possible. I'm enjoying NOT having to get a newspaper out under blizzard conditions. And I'm glad someone else is now a volunteer firefighter, because sure as there's bear shit in the woods something is going to go up in flames in the next couple of days and it's not my problem. Somebody else gets to try to keep the hoses from freezing. Retirement is Good.

I've slept on snow within the last 15 years, don't know if I could do that now.

It seemed like the thing to do at the time.

I'm really lucky, won the genetic lottery on this one: I'm usually comfortable in extremes of both heat and cold. Just need a little more thought on what to wear before going out in extreme cold.

57F in California - sorry. But actually he feels colder out here than when I lived out East, because it's 97% humidity. The dew point is always below the bulb temperature, so the humidity doesn't condense on your skin, but it's still there stealing every ounce of heat from your body that it can. Paradoxically it feels warmer at freezing temperatures like you get out East/Midwest, because the humidity is so low.

Plus insulation and heating in California buildings suck.

Coldest in the past month was -32F (-35C) with wind chill it felt like -40F.
Avg high humidity 80%

Hurt to breath outside. Ski/facemasks/scarves very common. Ice on the inside of some cars and windows. No gloves? Say goodbye to feeling in your fingers, well aside from the pain.

Snowblind and cold. Lots of snow here - at somepoint just becomes hard ice.

Number of days schools (college and k-12) closes/cancelled: 0.

Females still wearing yoga pants. Positive.

When it gets up to 30F, feels like shorts weather. Warm.

Summer, pleeeeeez.

Also, I hope all of you onthe east coast get slammed :P

We've had a couple of cold snaps here where it felt like -30F (-35C) because of wind chill. The actual temp was closer to -5F (-20C).

And yes, people are still riding bikes and going jogging and whatnot.

Condolences OP.

My teeth chattered like crazy when I was exposed to ~7C weather in one of my overnight stays in a mountaintop. I'm not sure if I can survive any temperature levels that the forum members posted here.

Preparation: dry socks and shirt, insulation against the ground, wool coverings. And for that 3 a.m. chill that goes all the way down to your spine: Some sort of chocolate candy. It's like a sugar bomb. I swear one night I could feel the warmth start in my belly and spread out like a ripple in a pond. :-)

Five inches on the ground, the puppy is delirious and indulging in "zoomies" with her nose down, cutting a wake and leaping for pure joy. Humans, not so much. :-)

Sucks for you guys. I don't know why a bunch of jungle apes would ever want to live where it's cold. We only had two frosts, and now the temp i picking back up.

9b hardiness ftw

But, yes, eat your sickness away. Try to eat watery fruits, or lots of soup. If you can, do some jumping jacks to get your blood circulating.

I'm just sitting here watching out my window. There is no street, and it looks like there's a foot or two of snow cliff / drift where the sidewalk must start.

I must have slept through the thunder. I've seen FB people claim we had some.

I also had weatherstripped the door going outside to my second floor patio, to the degree the door was hard to close (ie, all that compacted foam in there); and the wind was so bad, I could still feel a breeze coming through the crack somehow.

3 weeks now with about -5F, at times up to -13F. The air is dry, so not very cold. I was a trip to the sea last week. Came from -11F to around +10F. And it was very cold. Much worse then from where I came from. So cold I pretty much stayed in bed the whole week. The cold got switched off a few days ago, now it's 30F with dry air.

No thank you, 85% of my country would be underwater.:phear:
We can't live like fish...yet. Give us some time to practice.

Not our fault your ancestors didn't consider that the ice caps might melt completely one day. Better steal of of those boats the refuges used. When arizona becomes a rain forest, I'll let you live on my banana plantation... if you can make it here
