If you were able to be any (historical or fictional) character, who would you choose to be?

Above you, watching every move.
Who do you admire in some way and why?

I, for example, would choose Lelouch Lamperouge from the anime Code Geass, because... Well, do I have to say anything else? Always a step ahead of everyone else, rarely cares about others' feelings, yet he is a more believable character than Light from Death Note.

So... Who would you choose?

Edit: I'm sorry if this already existed, but I couldn't find any threads like this one.

Real:

Hannibal of Carthage - for me Hannibal is the ultimate symbol of what it means to be underestimated. The ultimate underdog. He nearly destroyed Rome with the power of surprise and the brilliance of his mind. I bet he was an INTP. I hope I get to meet him in the next life.

A student of the Buddha - Buddhism is really the only religion that makes sense to me. I would like to hear it from the source.

A viking raider - it would be an interesting culture to experience.

Fictional:

Altaïr from Assassin's Creed, such a badass - If you've played the game this needs no explanation. If you haven't, go play it now!

Does God fit under either of those categories? I would like to be all-powerful and all-knowing. :p

That said, I'd settle for all-powerful. Just make me someone with supernatural potency. And some brains. Like a Sherlock Holmes/X-men hybrid... There's gotta be a character like that out there.

Always trying to take over the world and never quite succeeding. I don't really want to take over the world but would love to keep trying.

Fictional: Daniel Faraday from Lost or maybe Winston from 1984 (Not the movie, I heard it sucks). But yeah, they're the only characters I can really connect with. I especially would love to have Winston's job, which is to essentially create the truth.

Real: Socrates, Plato, etc. The works of the Greek philosophers are really interesting and sometimes they even have similar ideas to ones I have had.

There are so many bad things about everyone's lives! What if they were all worse than mine? And wouldn't it just be exactly the same as dying?

I know a cheat.
Fictional: I'd write an idealised version of my own life where I choose to be a fictionalised me and then transition into that life as I finish writing, immediately forgetting my original history but remaining the same entity, and then choose to be that me.
Real: Me.

These lists probably say something about the person writing them...
(and it has to be a list. because)

Dr.Manhattan (Watchmen)
-obvious to those who know the character

Socrates

Sherlock Holmes

Nicholas Rush (from Stargate Universe)

Voltaire

Giaccamo Casanova (or his fictional counterpart: don Giovanni )

Leonardo da Vinci

Caravaggio

Buddha

Beethoven

Death (Discworld)

All of these because of their excellent skill in their fields of endeavor.

Howard ROark.

I'm reading the fountainhead right now and I really like it/him. =)

I see bits of myself in him, bits I'd like to bring out more. The way he's sure of himself. <----that.

Fictional:

Suigintou or Souseiseki (Rozen Maiden). Not only because flying in a suitcase would be extremely fun, but because I'd like to taste a bit of the pain they do (no, I'm not a masochist) and learn to appreciate what I take for granted coz I'm a heartless, selfish and obnoxious person who just needs to learn to value what I already have. Also, I'll have an excuse for being shorter than other people.

Real:

Me. Not only am I a heartless, selfish and obnoxious person, but I am also a weakling who is scared of being someone else who might have a worse life than mine.
